Well I look at it this way. How many adults watch television? The same boring shows everyday. Even films are becoming redundant. In the world of gaming there are such great stories, cinematics and creativity. I see no difference in coming home from work and gaming or watching the tele...

Don't get me wrong I'm not against it, in fact, I wish I'd found more mature players online, regardless of age. Just that I never stopped to think of how many actual grown ups play games on a regular basis and not casually and the thought scared me a little bit but I'm over it now xD

Well times are changing. V was the most mainstream game of all time. Many people got their first taste of video games with V. The average age of a "gamer" is in the 20s anyway. One part of this topic is the prior stigma associated with video games. Older generations have a biased view of games and they think games are something "kids will grow out of". When I was 14, I thought this too. Then college came and guess what, almost everyone in my dorm was already a gamer. And even now, as I'm working, I make time to play on the weekends usually.

Anyway I think we're at a point in which gaming is viewed as normal entertainment activity (as it should be) alongside other mediums like tv and books. I expect myself to be playing games until an old age, although at a casual gamer rate. I'm in my 20s btw. First system was a SNES and was a nintendo fanboy for a long time. Got into pc gaming in the late 90s.

I think when you quote facts you should be bound by a basic tenet - accuracy. Since accuracy comes from research and not from plucking information out of your backside, you will need to change your approach.

It's probably been said before in this thread (but I don't want to look through 13 pages to find it) that "games" includes all kinds of sh*t like Angry Birds, Candy Crush and other mobile sh*t, Solitaire, WoW, and all kinds of simple-minded crap that old people and girls play. So any discussion here should focus on games like GTA0. In the context of GTA0 and 3D shooters, I think the statistics would be a lot more skewed toward young male assholes, like most of us are.

I say "most of us" while being way too old for this sh*t, but I am playing it anyway because I like the 3D world design of these games.

I'm assuming that you will need someone to summarise an already heavily visualised report for you too?

OK, well, as long as you are going to start a debate based on the report, take a look at these graphs:

5LxE7Qs.png

These support my assertion that guy-type games (action, sports, strategy) are tjhe smaller part of the total game universe, while female-type games (social games, puzzle games, trivia games) are a large part. So, as always, the "averages," like age or gender, mean almost nothing -- they need to be attached to the individual game genres, which this report does not do. So you get misleading stats like "48% of gamers are female." In the absence of genre breakdown data, I think it's reasonable to say that GTA and shooter type game are probably 80-90% male, and probably skew to the young side, as I asserted, whereas the female component of gaming is largely driven by the larger number of social and puzzle/trivia games, and these games are skewed more toward older players.

Best way to play with older players is to join a crew with older players in it.Online is infected with children and bad parenting. Rockstar should have a couple of people randomly entering freeroam settings and flat out banning any accounts clearly being used/played by children. Might teach parents a lesson and scare the rest into spending time with their young children or not letting them play games clearly labelled for adults only.

If a squeaker is particularly annoying just start in with some classic Mom jokes or shout "C***TY C**T C***T" repeatedly or anything to that effect down the mic in the hope that he will repeat it to his parents and they may see the error of their ways?...

Why is it all I seem to find and play with are 15 year olds and younger? Where the hell are the players over 20 years old? Not that I have an issue with the younger generation but where the hell are the parents and why the hell are they playing this game?

I get what your saying and I found a way to avoid a good portion of them. How? I'm usually playing in first person in free aim lobbies.

Luckly i found a friend to play with, he's from the States and he's 35 years old, chilled-out mothafacka... and then there is one friend from the UK, i think he is 16-17 or something, and when i play with him, i feel like i need alcohol just to keep my cool. :D Reminds me of how i hate teens, and whata douchebag i was, when i was as old as him. I thought i knew everything, man how things have changed, but thats only Natural.

No doubt that there is a huge difference in playing with older people and kids, i myself am 25 years old.

There are a lot of us on GTA. I think that a lot of 'older' players tend to keep their ages to themselves. Age for me isn't too much of an issue as long as players are mature. You can usually tell how old someone is from their trigger happy fingers, their excellent use of grammar and spelling proficiency in their messages and, obviously, their squeaky prepubescent voices

I'm 52 years old (did I win the forums yet? lol).

I skew toward playing with older players but have no problem playing with younger ones. We have a 15 year old in our original crew and while sometimes he can "show his age" he is a good guy and a good player to boot. I've met quite a few who I thought were much older but turn out to be in their teens. I tend to focus on our commonality (GTA) while avoiding any other topics because, well, we come from two different worlds (unless I meet a 17 year old with 2 kids, a mortgage and a full-time career). Age is just a number with respect to GTAO.

Another odd but expected thing; I've played with a large number of forum bad-asses here who are actually quite personable and fun in-game. Hell, I've added them to my friend list and seek them out when I can. You can pretty much take with a grain of salt, all the macho posturing in the forums because once you're online, the story changes dramatically. That has been my experience since day one.

I'm in a crew for adults: http://www.reddit.com/r/redditdads

Despite the name, you don't need to be a dad (or even a man), just over 18, mature and no hate-speech.

I think some of you are making a bigger deal of a person's age than it really is,especially in relation to this game .When someone turns 18,20,30,40,50 etc it doesn't instantly make them a nice, mature and wise person and just because someone is under 18 it doesn't make them an immature, entitled millennium.I've met people in their 20s and 30s(Online and in the real world)who are vain and selfish and who can't form a logical and structured opinion in a debate or disagreement and resort to yelling abusive language. On the other hand I've met 13-17 year olds who can engage in debates with well informed opinions that are open to change and are some of the nicest people you could meet.Age does affect people.Immature or "nasty" people can grow up and become better people or they can become even more horrible because they have a position of authority and nice or mature people can grow in to even more wise and intelligent people or become bitter and meaner with age.You can have nice, intelligent and thoughtful kids and you can have sadistic, stupid and arrogant adults.A kid you pass on the street could turn out to be a lawyer, doctor, politician, good father, friend, soldier etc or they could turn out to be a murderer, raper, junkie etc.You shouldn't judge a person just by their age.Judge them by what they do,what they say,how they treat others and themselves, their intelligence, their personality etc.

In Nonchalant Dominance, the crew I'm in,there's lots of people of various ages but they're all brought together by the fact that they like racing and gta. When I'm playing with them or talking to them their age has little effect.Obviously it's easier to talk to and I usually would have more in common with members my own age (15/16) than guys in their 20s but I've still spent plenty of time discussing cars, gta, racing and other things with guys who are 7,8,9 years older than me and not really noticed a difference.

TL;DR:If you didn't read what I said you're in no position to comment on it ;)

Dr Labuschagne

Unfortunately I'm 20, I kinda wish I was 96, on my deathbed in my 20.000.000 German castle and doing a heists with my friends on (a console of the time). Then after we do the Master mind challenge I look outside my window and its the first minute of the new year, I then look at the Fireworks and then I take my last breath...

It sucks ass to be young. If you are 40+.

Your age fills me with envy...

.... And when you're 40+ you'll realise what potential you had back when you were 20.

Cherish what you have NOW.

-------------------------

I'm 43, on Xbox 360 daily & my crew is mostly in their 20's & 30's but for one mature 18yo.

All in my signature.

Screw being young, I can't wait to get older...

Aunty Fascist

50 here, this is my first GTA game but I've had consoles and video games since Pong came out in 1976.

I tend to play mostly with older players, though some of the younger people are all right. Mostly it depends on whether someone can play cooperatively (i.e., listen and respond instead of running into missions and heists half-cocked), and whether or not they think hate speech is OK. I don't mind cursing (I do a lot of that myself) but I do find sexism, racism, ableism and all that kind of thing to be offensive and objectionable ... which is why I avoid public lobbies like the plague. A whole lot of younger players seem to think rape jokes, using the n-word while white, using "gay" as an insult and intellectual elitism are OK and it's just not. I'd rather play by myself or with other people that are respectful of people's differences rather than say nasty things about them.

Now that school is out for most kid's, the public lobbies are going to be an even bigger mess. It's best to hide out in those invite/crew only lobbies until school starts again.

What I hate, is when one of those kid's finds out you really are a female and not a guy using a female character. That's the worst.

Am I considered old if I'm 27? It seems like everyone with a mic in the game is 20 or younger. I really prefer playing with those over 20, simply because they play smarter for the most part. The young players just have zero patience and don't seem to think strategically.
