If GTA Maps were 40mins long

Sure it will be fun and stuff, but not possible in a short amount of time...

In THE CREW you can't access every area on the map (probably) just the roads and some dirt roads, that means that it doesn't need many details, because you're racing and passing by fast...

In GTA however, you can acces EVERY spot on the map, wich requires ALOT more detail.

I'd write alot more about this, but I have to catch my flight back to Switzerland, peace out.

Nope you can drive everywhere, just like GTA5.

I'm sure R* could make the map that large.

But the game would've been undetailed and boring as s**t

What will be interesting is GTA:VI - because that'll be developed ground up for current/next gen consoles only - so there will be less technical challenges - but even then any time spent creating extra landscape also means those artists have less time to spend on the detail - so it will depend on how much is invested. In this case you wanted a map suitable for up to 16 players with as much detail as possible.

The problem is not that the current map is too small, it's that even with detailed buildings and landscape it is a shell. Interiors and gameplay features are what is needed, not more space. There is so much unused space in Blaine county, areas that people never visit, all the mountain ranges are a big example.

To the people saying "it takes too long to drive across the map already"

if the cars, helicopters and planes traveled at realistic speeds it would be fast. At the moment everything is way slower than real life due to streaming issues.

yeah but this is C*... If we had to wait for them to make a map THAT big, we'd be happy to play it by the time i will be cremated..

Just adding to the discussion...

Aside from the fact that almost every game for Sega CD was horrid sh*t, this is the infamous Rubber Stamp Store from a terrible game called Lethal Enforcer. It was so bad that the endless 2D scrolling background was nothing but a continuous loop of stores that included the notorious "Rubber Stamp Co."

nvias.png

Point being, you could endlessly scroll through this world for an infinite period of time, but you never gained an inch in distance. Now, fast forward to today. The same principal applies.

R* + Google = USA Sized gta map

(Would have infinite amount of online players)

Wouldn't that be pleasant?

FUTURE!!

I can't believe I'm what I'm reading that the map is too small. It's huge with loads of detail.

Everyone online just sticks to the same old places in the city, and that wouldn't change no matter how big you made it.

So no, waste of time. More people on the same free roam serve however I'm well up for.

And then people saying to switch lobbies depending where you are. R* can't even get joining a normal lobby working 100% of the time. Can you imagine switching lobbies every time you left an area. It would kill the game in a week.

Sure the map could be bigger BUT its much bigger than what gta 4 was so thats an improvement. Besides youre talking about two different games.

I'll always be hoping for a sand box game that is a recreation of the United States completely. It will never happen, but I would love to reek havoc in my hometown and the surrounding areas.

I've had this dream for a long time.

Imagine if the whole world was made, detail by detail. It would be the ultimate game...

Alas, it's probably not possible with today's technology. Maybe some day ;)

It will happen. You just need a good PC with amazing hardware that will process all the data with ease, so probably in another 10 years or less.

Incorrect (Mainly). You can access all places of the map, the only places you can't go is either the sea (for obvious reasons) or places your car won't go up or fit in.

I know this thanks to playing the beta myself. Here are some images of offroad (related) locations:

In the next beta (from august 25th) I will be doing a lot more offroad exploring. Most of the time i felt like I should stay on the road, but you really do have the freedom to go anywhere you want.

I love exploration, and any game that has a decent map I will spend a long time just going around the map and finding new places. RDR was one of the best for me :)

the way switching would work is maybe every few states (20min of driving) you cross loads a different session but anyways scratch that idea I'm talking about more then 100 players in sessions like warcraft some thing like that. keep in mind were talking about future GTAO

don't mind the people who say "oh they have to lower the detail", no this is 2014 going to 2015 were not talking about a PS2 or an Xbox 360 lol sh** is getting advanced were living in a world were technology grows every day!!! ima use these images for the intro thanks man.. finally a man who actually experiences a large map to explain to our GTA brothers and sisters

Because The Crew is just driving on roads, you dont get out of your car, inspect the smaller details, enter buildings, etc.

You don't enter buildings on gta either. Ammunations and sh*t don't count plus inside of them are same as everywhere else.

lol werd up even in The Crew, there Garages are "more detailed" then a ammunition story of our apartments. in GTA even if you get in a building (by glitching/walking threw walls) the room is half cut off lol

There is so much that can be done with GTAO on next gen. Bars, clubs random shops. All in time I'm sure.

2014, still believing Ubisoft isn't bullsh*tting out the ass and having the final product ultimately be underwhelming.

I'm sure cruising in a game is great if your 14 years old and never driven a car before, I'd rather just do it in real life. I can't afford to race round silverstone in a car with 500 horse power every week so I do it in game instead.

Rockstar wont make a GTA game with a map the size of these games because they care about the content.

Soo that explains the crappy DLCs we've had so far, right? I agree that they care about the map, but the care part lacks in GTAO regarding content.

I think a map maybe 2 or 3 times the size of GTA V would be about right, as long as we had over 64 players in one free roam lobby. The maps are getting bigger and bigger with each game. I'm so excited and interested to see what they do with the next GTA.

Just Cause 2 has an extremely large and apparently it would take an Hour to go from one side of the map to the other. It has deserts, snow capped mountains and tropical jungles with hot air balloons and floating strip clubs but otherwise an empty map covered in foliage for the most part.

Checkout the comparisons in size. Quality over Quantity

Was looking up GTA VI and came across this article, http://www.christiantoday.com/article/gta.6.to.feature.return.to.vice.city/39384.htm

If you have a read, it says they're thinking about bring back all the maps in one game, allowing us to fly to each one. Whether this is a legit source or not, doesn't really matter since they're only thinking about it.I would like it, although it would be fun if we could drive to each place, I imagine it's just going to be a loading screen when you get on the plane.

R* kind of already did this with North Yankton right? It totally seems possible and I would expect R* to "expand" the world of GTAO in this manner.

Christian Today advertising GTA? What?

But OP, I would love for this to come true. It probably will on the Xbox 2(?) and PS5. Up it to 132 players in a lobby and you got yourself a deal

It'd have to contain a sh*t-ton of more cities and towns to work:

LA: Los Santos

NY: Liberty City

Detroit: Carcer City

Miami: Vice City

San Fran: San Fierro

Las Vegas: Las Venturas

North Dakota: North Yankton

Houston: Texico? Something like that

Chicago: ???

etc, etc

But it could work. Tanks in LS again? Who cares? Let's go to my log cabin in Ludendorff!
