Pay to Play GTA Online

Would pay to play GTA Online? Like $5 a month? Should it be more? It would cut down on the glitchers, modders, and non legit players.

Not sure about $5/mo

But I'd pay $20-30 a year if job payouts were doubled/tripled (alternative to cash cards) provided DLC keeps coming out once every month or two. If DLC stopped coming out or payouts weren't increased, I'd likely move to another game title. It wouldn't cut down on the modders/glitchers/nonlegit players by much but it could make gameplay more rewarding (for me anyway, maybe not everyone else).

I really hate the pay to play aspect of games. That's the reason I decided to not buy Elder Scrolls Online (A while ago, now I've heard it's not even good, so I wouldn't get it anyway)

Pay to play, I'm not sure if that's ever been attempted on a console.

I wouldn't pay $5 a month for a game you can have maybe 10 minutes of fun, and than be bored. A game where you have to grind forever to get money or glitch.

grand theft spaghetti

It would also be a terrible idea since we all already paid $60 for this game.

GTA Online is seperate from the game

that's just corporate bs lawyer talk for selling players a possible broken game and not having to give anyone refunds.

something your not allowed to do with regular multiplayer. because if your selling people a game it has to work.

if you bought an old gen version and plan on buying the next gen version depending on which edition you bought youre going to be spending at least $120 for that "free" game.

No ones ever going to pay for a half finished game full of bugs. If they ever fix it so that no one can cheat then sure.

This.

What makes the OP so confident that these nefarious Modders *sarcasm* (Glitchers do not count as they use exploits which exist due to holes in R*'s coding) will be driven off by a $5 subscription fee or not find a way to bypass needing to pay this subscription fee?...I mean PS3 console bans work wonders.

Try to sell your GTAV disc and tell me if you still can access GTA Online.

No and I doubt that R* would even entertain the idea. It would decimate the player base - especially those that purchase / have purchased Shark cards. Folks go crazy about Shark cards, this would create a massive backlash that no PR department would want to handle. R* is going to have a hard enough time bringing players back without fresh gameplay as soon as new top titles start dropping this fall (next month!).

To be honest, I have not had my GTA:O gaming jacked up by people glitching and modding. I have only ran into a modded lobby once and I simply found a new lobby when I did. It is way to easy to move along in this game if you are not having fun in one particular lobby. Hell, I normally go through a few lobbies before I start playing anyway (looking for folks with mics 'cause it make the game a lot more enjoyable for me.). As for glitching, I enjoy the fact that a huge population has a ton of cash - it creates some massive free-roam battles and keeps things interesting.

They wouldn't be driven off, they wouldn't hardly exist. R* would have much more incentive to take care of and maintain the servers if people were actually paying something regularly through subscription or DLC.

It would also stop R* with their subtle head games trying to get everyone to buy cash cards. Cash cards *are* paying to win, I don't care what R* or anyone else says about this.

Noone cares about how much leveled they are, they care about being able to buy cars and modding them how they want.

If you can aford to buy the cars you want and be able to drive them, in Grand Theft Auto, you're winning.

Noone grinds Rooftop Rumble for the RP, not nearly to the same extent.

Of course they wouldn't, I wouldn't. Online has always been "free" and that's perceisly why it's in it's current state.

Can I note a tiny semantic. Online is not free. Everyone pays for a phone-line (or a mobile), a phone service and sometimes the ISP (often the phone service provider). Everyone is charged a rate be it pay as you go or a package deal. Considering this and the origins of the computer game (games in general). To pay to play (like micro transactions) is an abomination and simply unacceptable IMO. It sits against the nature of gaming and amounts to a final insult given that we all pay for the privilege of internet anyway. No game should be PTP especially if you have bought the primary software. Paid expansion is fine, but pay to play. No!

Well the current system is Rockstar maintains / runs lots of servers - so there is an ongoing cost - then they release DLC for free. To make money off this ongoing expense, they try to sell cash cards. This kind of works, but I'd rather an optional subscription fee that gives a payout boost and a higher quality of service e.g. still free to play, but better options than "here is some game money" for those who contribute.

Cost of your internet isn't relevant, as none of that money goes to the game developers. All R* needs to do is release a title that's worth about 60 bucks - if you want more than that you should expect to pay for it. I've been playing for a year, so I'd suspect they've earned their sixty bucks! (Even if I'm pissed off right now about their uselessly intolerant network systems). I do hate micro-transactions - e.g. $1 for more bullets everytime you play, but totally fine with a subscription fee if I get good value from it.

Not like that's never been done before.

And I'd stop playing the game if that were to happen, even if they included features into it that I've been wanting for so long (like adding more snapmatic space, etc) I barely play the game as it is, not gonna reserve 5$ on my card every month just to keep the disk on my shelf.

They should pay me for the unfinished crap we've got. It's enough that I had to paid 100$ for this game and I still feel bad about it.

lol the unfortunate xbox users have to pay for their gold membership, and you don't see their community shrinking, so I'd guess that $5 charge really wouldn't affect anyone who is still keen on playing online.

PS4 members have to pay to play online games. :p

I wonder if OP owns an Xbox 360.. last I checked, 360 owners are actually paying to play online with membership passes.. (if that's what it's called)

No. I'd go back to my other games. I already paid for the game plus a £15 cash card after the billionaire days (I never got one of those bounties...) This game is not worth paying per month. It is full of glitches , modders and hackers. I doubt R* would fix all of that to charge a monthly fee, because cash cards provide a chance for "whales" (people who spend hundreds on IAP/DLC) to spend much more than they could with a monthly fee. Look at the success of free iPhone games. In conclusion a monthly fee would be bad for the players and R*.

Paying for.....are you completely retarded ?:O

And do you seriously think you are gonna smoke out the kids this way ?

If parents already are weak enough to buy their tiny kids this kind of game i see them paying for all other crap along it to :/

Pay to play this sh*t?

Sure, I actually love that idea.

You know why?

Because everyone would quit playing sh*tty GTA5 and go back to GTA4 which is a MUCH better game. OP can pay $5 a month to sit in a lobby on his own.

I'm playing $35-$40 a year to play my entire game library online, not just GTAV :p

But really that would be terrible. I already payed £60 for the game so why should I have to pay to use the disk not to mention the fact that when you play online most session is full of imbeciles.

That would be the end of this GTA: Online.

I wouldn't be too surprised if the next GTA needed a subscription to play online though, sadly...

"In an interview with CVG, The Benz - Rockstar North's president - confirmed that GTA 5 and GTA Online are completely separate.

"It'll be GTA Online," said The Benz, "it's not part of GTA 5. Obviously it's set in the GTA 5 engine, but it's going to grow and evolve into its own thing."

Ok, where can I buy my Grand Theft Auto: Online disc? Where can I find my Grand Theft Auto: Online achievements? Rockstar are the only people who think GTA:Online is it's own thing. Even retailers sell the game as "Grand Theft Auto: V," not "Grand Theft Auto V/Grand Theft Auto: Online Bundle"

Who do you trust the game makers or the retailers?

Are you talking about Rockstar or every game company including EA? One word........heists

What's the retailer got to do with it anyway he's just selling the dam disc. You're one of those people that think you got gta online for free. Don't fool yourself, right now its just the multiplayer version of GTA V regardless of what some producer hollywood biatch said. Same city, same charcters, same disc, same format. A doo doo preset character creator of black, white and asian colors with some extra clothes. NOTHING MORE.

Make this thread again in a couple of years when its OFFICIALLY annonced that it becomes available to download from the psn store. But for now, please, stfu.

nope, right now that is. SAMP is still more stable and more functioning than GTAO and its just a mod... this game would have to come a long way for me to consider paying a subscription to play.

Why the hell are people actually supporting this?

In case you don't know, Xbox 360 players need to pay $50 or so a year to access online. I'm fine with that because, in my opinion, I think Xbox is better. That's already a dent in your pocket.

Then, we paid $60 for GTA V. GTA Online can't be accessed without the GTA V disc. It is absolutely not it's own game. Someday, it may be, but not now.

Also, think of this. Rockstar made $1,000,000,000 off GTA V. That's a billion dollars, as in the most profit ever yielded from any game of all time. They made back all the vast amount of money spent making the game in a single night.

They also get a lot of cash card sales because the only way to make money in this game is to glitch or grind. All job payouts were lowered to make cash cards more appealing. This game practically runs on micro transactions. Cash cards are overpriced as well.

Now, you want Rockstar to be even more greedy and have a pay to play service? You've got to be f*cking kidding me.

No. When i break down and get a ps4 then i will be paying to play online. But pay to playa glitched game? Nope, since the game box lied to us all (it says HEISTS) i will not give real $$$ to a big lying multibillion corporation through pay to play. Ill go play RDR and GTA IV online for FREE. Hell ill go back and play those single player campaigns again to get 100% completion.
