Why doesnt the heavy sniper have a silencer option?

The purpose of the .50 cal rifle is to be able to take your shot from such a distance and with such power, that any enemies hearing the blast only means someone's dead, somewhere.

BTW, to any who got a problem, I will happily pull out my SILENCED .50 cal pistol and put a full CLIP in ya damn face. .l. :)

don't forget that barrett is semi-automatic armor pierching sniper rifle , which suggest by it's damage

if there's ammo upgrades , heavy sniper most likely fatal . although certain enemies vary of HP , in teaser trailer , R* intentionally increase amount of HP , being capable surviving few hits of heavy sniper despite being based armor pierching sniper rifle

they have nerfed the heavy sniper when they removed the tank sniping, adding a suppresor would only hurt the already weaken rifle!

All we need now is increased damage against jets for heave snipers and I think the game will be pretty balanced again. We got RPGs to take out tanks now.

Suppressors. Not silencers.

Magazines. Not clips.

I'm sorry. I can't help it. I want to vomit on the faces of people who aren't using proper terms. Like Rockstar, Activision, Infinity Ward, DICE. I mean, I suppose it tells us who learned from a video game and who learned from the loving and gentle arms of... being well armed.

Excuse most of the population for not being hyper-macho redneck military enthusiasts.

So says the "drunken cowboy".It's my pretend name in the pretend world of pretend guns that I don't pride myself over knowing.

So you call me out for being a "hyper-macho redneck" when you PRETEND to be one on the internet. Congratulations on that... And forgive me for taking the time to educate people, even if I have to put a little ick on it.

Wow what a great thing to know. Please tell me more. I would love to show my friends and family how much I know about murder tools. Also, I welcome and deserve your vomit in my face, because it's completely unacceptable for me to sometimes use "silencer" instead of "supressor".

You call them "murder tools". That's only because the news doesn't report all the times guns stop crimes. I've carried my pistols, two at a time, for nearly 5 years. I have personally stopped two violent crimes in progress and persuaded three more to not commit assault or robbery. I have shot just as many people as I plan to, and that number is 0. Instead of thinking about it as my Right to bear arms... I consider it a responsibility as a law abiding citizen and caretaker.

You are right with the Magazine and clip..

but "silencer" is simply the popular term for a suppressor..

OT: I agree there should be a silencer for it.

.50 cal as was mentioned, and what would the point of the normal sniper rifle be if the heavy sniper could be suppressed as well?

Oh, and you can one-shot players with the suppressed sniper. It's called a headshot, you should try it OP.

But since when are silencers usefull ? :/

Deathmatches, duh.

Since when do silencers work there ? never noticed that one :)

too much call of duty i see even if there was a supressor the accuracy and damage would be so low

Silencers need subsonic bullets to be effective. So the impact is reduced as well. The boom you hear when guns are fired is partly from the gunpowder and partly the sonic boom as the bullet travells past the speed of sound.

I tried a standard bullet with a silencer last year and it made just as loud a sound as it normally would without the silencer.

...sorry, SUPPRESSOR!

Really though, this is a video game forum and no one truly cares.

I know the difference between a magazine and a clip. I still say clip. People automatically know what I mean, so it's not a problem.

I ALWAYS WONDERED THAT, figured it was because its supposed to be op like that.

i mean the damage bar is all the way at the tip

The Heavy Sniper is based off of the Barrett M82 rifle. It's a .50 Caliber...If you even attempted to put a suppressor on it, it would blow it up as soon as you fired.

Do some research before you post. Loads of .50cal weapons can have silencers, including the Barrett .50cal.

On topic, silencers are crap on GTA Online anyway so.

You've obviously never fired a .50 cal to understand how worthless that is.

If you can fire something that hits someone 3,000 yards out the silencer is pointless since they don't actually hear the bang. If they were actually good enough to hear something that far away the bullet would've already hit them prior to the noise getting there.

Pretty much, yea. I don't care if you're wearing body armor or not...you don't run away from a .50 caliber to the chest, let alone 2 or 3. Anywhere else and limbs should start popping off.

this is really dissapointing, i love the look and sound of the standard sniper silenced but it isnt a one shot kill most of the times the way my trusty heavy sniper is, do you think R will ever add this attachment in the future?

*facepalm*

"Silencer" - suggests the gun shot would not make any sound. It still does. Hence "suppressor".

But feel free to blunder through life being f*cking wrong just because you get butthurt being corrected.

I honestly didn't even know there wasn't a silencer for it. I personally don't like the sound of the silencers except for on the Advanced Rifle. Plus, they're completely useless, I can shoot someone on the top of Mount Chiliad with a silencer and the cops will still be all over me.

100% agree with you, all I was doing was pointing out to Viper that his information was wrong.

PowerKracker

A suppressor on a heavy sniper rifle is ineffective for sound reduction - in real life, they're more about reducing the flash than noise.

Possibly for balancing issues. Nobody would be using the first sniper if that's the case. I haven't unlocked the heavy sniper yet, I'm a few ranks from it.

He point of a silencer is to give you time to disappear if you f*ck up and someone sees the body and raises the alarm or if a patrolling guard hears you, the bang on a fifty cal is at least 90 decibels Edited by TheBigMish96

Disappear? Sees you... this is hurting my head. So let me put this is context for you.

If I'm shooting a .50 cal is M82A1/M107 it's at range. The effective firing range is 1,969 yards. To make it easy I round up to 2,000 (who is arguing 30 yards?). Then I'll split that in HALF at 1,000 yards just for the fun of it! To put that in perspective, that's half a mile or almost a kilometer.

On foot, an average runner would take you, 6 minutes to run that and that would be depending that you knew where the shot came from! So let's say you stumble upon a body. It'll take you 6 minutes (a whole day probably to identify who the guy was) to get to him knowing full well whoever took the shot could fire at you. Do you bother? Fine, sound that loud alarm. I can walk away without you even knowing I was ever there. I want you to walk outside and gauge a half mile all around and try to discern any sound that is a half mile out. In fact, look for it too.

The actual decibels is around 180 and the suppressor only reduces 30 of it. So there's the other point.

I'm the wrong guy to be arguing with on this subject since I know about it from personal experience.

I'm not going to start a discussion on how fast bullets and sound travel, mathematical equations, ballistic coefficients and such because everything varies. But you will not hear the crack of a .50 at 1800 yards, and a 650 grain bullet traveling at 2800 fps no matter where it hits you at those distances you're dead. Now regarding a suppressor, it's totally unpractical unless you sniping at distances less than 500 yards, or you're in an urban setting. I've seen a suppressed M40, M110, and a Tac .338.

To be honest if I saw someone with a suppressed M107, I would laugh at them just as I would with anyone using a suppressed shotgun. You probably would be the laughing stock of any military/ branch of services scout sniper community. Suppressors aren't what video games, and movies depict them as. That suppressor in the picture only cuts 23db from the shot. The only truly effective suppressed weapons are a .22 rimfire, and an MP5SD6, though any pistol with the right suppressor can be effective in the right setting. It's bad enough they turned the Heavy Snipers stopping power in this game to that of 7.62, and a suppressor would only appease the 12 yr olds, who run around with their pink suppressed Assault Shotguns. I would rather see night scopes, and the prone position added over any more suppressors.

@dvntsvnt

10 rounds is the max you'll ever see, and anyone who has used the weapon irl knows never to load a box with more than 8 rounds.
