GTA IV - "Classic" freemode lobbies

That's a stupid idea.

Your post - So clever. So much value. So much productivity.

At least EvilFiend had a valid argument.

It's stupid because it won't be implemented. Thus, a waste of time. If you want to play "classic" GTA Online bust out the IV disc.

You say its stupid (most likely because you think it's stupid), but didnt elaborate. Just because R* won't do this, that doesn't make it stupid. R* puts a lot of stupid crap in the game, yet I'm not complaining. I'd much rather see something improve the gameplay than all that stupid f*cking DLC they keep adding.

Anyways, I have recently busted out he IV disc, but it's pretty dead nowadays I mean they had some people in the lobby, but not many people besides I'd rather play on GTA 5 with my own character, more people playing and better graphics and stuff like that.

Why not make everything free on that gamemode? But obviously make it so it's completely different to the normal freeroam mode.

Changes that they would make:

-No insurance available. Your car automatically respawns in your garage when it gets destroyed.

-Powerups for that gamemode including Infinite Ammo, Rapid Fire, No Reload, Explosive Rounds, Flammable Rounds, etc. All of them paid of course (for example: Infinite ammo would be $5 for 1 day, $10 for 3 days, $20 for a week, $60 for a month and $100 for a year.). You could get a 1 week trial for free for only one powerup, so if you choose Infinite Ammo trial, you can't choose any other trial.

-No price tags or everything free and owned.

-You can still do jobs, but you will only obtain a 50% of the original RP and no money.

-There would be no K/D ratio.

-Unobtainable cars would be available to purchase from a new website. There would be cars such as snowy cars, the Space Docker, etc.

-Every land vehicle would be stored in your garage. You would still have to call Pegasus to get air and water vehicles.

-Roosevelt and every other limited DLC cars would be available for purchase, as well as clothing and weapons.

-No Bad Sport. Although this would be replaced with temporary imprisonment if you destroy a lot of PVs.

-No level restrictions.

-5 (or 2, like now) new character slots for this gamemode, apart from the regular slots, just in case you want to make an all new character exclusively for this gamemode. These would have no rank at all.

-Crate Drops would have all limited time items, including the beer hats. There would be a 100% probability of obtaining a rare item (meaning that you would always get one).

-There will be a new "Debug" contact in your phone in case you want to have a quick getaway car, or you're just too lazy to go to the airport for a plane. You could also do secret animations, change your character into an NPC or even go into free camera mode.

-Some cheats would be available to activate such as Superjump, Supersprint, Vehicle spawning cheats, etc.

-Tanks and jets won't do any damage to players and viceversa. You can still destroy PVs if they're empty.

-Selling vehicles to Simeon or attacking an Armored Truck will grant 25% more RP than usual but no money at all.

This wouldbe ideal for me and for a lot of people.

^Not sure about the powerups and buying every vehicle. :/

I'm sure people here were thinking this idea as a lobby, not another gamemode completely. It sounds like you want a different game altogether. The cheat idea is horrible, too. Come on, dude, don't make a "perfect for troll" lobby!

Meh

Honesty, some of these options sound like a terrible idea.

Such as turning off traffic and citizens.

Turning off custom vehicles.

Having to pick up weapons (proably the worst)

And no activities and purchase of items? Umm OK then.

I guess it would be cool for private play but I don't see this being big in public at all.

Rockstar would have to get money out of that, and I think that many people would pay for having unlimited rapid fire RPGs.

The gamemode idea it's also my thought. I'd like it to be GTA Online 2, where everyone is happy, not giving a sh*t about crappy DLCs, and R* could have some extra time to prepare some paid DLCs.

No thanks. Sounds like GTAO, but watered down, by like, a lot. I genuinely enjoy making players go broke when we're waging war in free roam. Like Fergie said... "If you ain't got no money, take ya broke azz home" (unless you're a glitcher, then f*ck you!) However OP, I do like the suggestion you made about being able to be able to toggle options when creating a session (i.e. custom weapons, cops, pedestrians, etc.)

You mean those powerups require REAL money to use?

That's a terrible idea! People will moan how friendly lobbies are cash cards in gaming format.

A more down-to-earth gaming experience without the rapid fire and cheats is what people are looking for. No idea who these people are you refer to in your post as "This wouldbe ideal for me and for a lot of people."

I'm really trying to not shoot your post down but you're just suggesting ideas that would ruin the game even more.

I don't understand why people keep going on about GTAIV multiplayer as though it was the best thing in the world. I know some of you would've been younger when GTAIV came out so you have some sort of nostalgia for it but in reality it was sh*te compared to GTAO. No custom cars, no bounties, no activities and no shops so you had to run around collecting all the best guns before you could do anything. Players were just as hostile in GTAIV if not more so. I remember a lot of free-roam sessions would basically be spawn>get shot in the face>spawn>get shot in the face over and over. People weren't more friendly in GTAIV, that is nonsense. When IV came out you had the same threads on here full of people complaining about getting killed in FREE-ROAM. The exact same thing you see now.

There was no progression, no ranking up, no buying things - it was just mindless. Yeah fun for the first week or so getting in police chases with people or blasting people with the annihlator but the novelty soon wore off.

It's not nostalgia as the GTA IV still stands as one of the best lobby settings for the 360. It had all the bare yet necessary (bear necessities!) options to make a lobby different from others. Players were not as hostile as you had a chance to run away. The only real threats in GTA IV were:

-guy with rocket launcher

-guy in chopper with annihilator with explosive rounds/buzzard with rockets (Gay Tony)

-guy in sports car with grenades

You died in GTA IV, you spawned, you could run away. In GTA:O, you spawn, you get mercs or a mugger sent after you, the guy is already in his bulletproof Zentoro that you have to pay for if you blow it up. In GTA IV, you could shoot the car up and the guy had to retreat or his car would start having those flames on the rear wheel arches. In GTA:O, that car is a f*cking tank that doesn't smoke, doesn't slow down, bulletproof tires, a war machine, basically.

While there was no progression (10 levels, each offering clothes which no one cared about), it was easy to jump in and have fun. You could join a lobby, look on the map and see how many people were in the airport - great, I'll go there because that's where all the action in or stay away because...well, that's where all the action is. In GTA:O, you have to look out for tanks, guy in jet flying around the map, you're chilling in Paleto Bay FAR from anyone and you suddenly have a bounty and now you're the most popular target in the lobby.

GTA:O is a true griefers game compared to GTA IV. The only real griefiers in GTA IV that we ever had was modders. Anyone else shooting you up were just assholes that you could avoid by switching session. In GTA:O, these assholes are in every damn lobby (and screw the Invite Only argument, that sh*t is useless when you don't have friends). Mindless? Yes. Fun for the first week or so? Not at all. There's still people playing it 6 damn years after it released because they prefer the simplicity of it compared to GTA:O where everything costs something. You know, there's some games that lets players jump in and have fun, not work for fake money to be better protected from other players.

Some people are missing the point completely. This is not to replace regular GTAO free mode, it's a separate lobby.

You got people constantly complaining about getting killed In free mode- for that there is friendly fire off

You got people constantly complaining about police stopping their fun - for that there is cops off

You got people constantly complaining about the money aspect - for that there is this lobby, so you can just play and have fun

This way, you can set up a lobby to your liking and play with like-minded people and not have to worry about all the stupid sh*t (IE: sh*t that you don't like). I think this way will stop a lot of complaining.

Obviously R* has no interest in doing something that might interfere with their card sales, but if enough people supported something like this it could gain attention.

There was no progression, no ranking up, no buying things - it was just mindless. Yeah fun for the first week or so getting in police chases with people or blasting people with the annihlator but the novelty soon wore off.

That's basically the same thing in GTAO, once you hit rank 120 it's mindless, pointless "progression" if you could call it that.

I keep thinking about this idea and I think it would be a great addition, would replace the stocks and give a community feel - something GTA:O doesn't really have.

I would prefer a Red Dead like option(in fact they should just follow that lead) be able to choose a free Roam where theres no PvP. Seems it would be a simpler way. You still have to spend money so Rockstar are happy but you can mess around and have fun without worrying about other players. I guess a closed friend session is the same but it doesn't include like minded players like a non PvP room would.

A lot of people seem to want variables and options when it comes to the way GTAO is played. Here i have a preposal that could make everyone happy.

GTA IV style free roam lobbies, or simply "Classic Freeroam" Basically: Money free lobbies.

It will be an option for people in the Online section of the pause menu. Once you select it, it will take you to a screen where you can invite people and set options:

Options available:

Time: Day, Night, Dusk, Dawn, or Cycle

Weather: Clear, Cloudy, Foggy, Rain, or Cycle

Police: On/Off

Traffic: On/Off

Traffic Density: Low, Medium, High

Pedestrians: On/Off

Ped Density: Low, Medium, High

Custom Weapons: On/Off

Custom Vehicles: On/Off

Weapons: Pistols, SMGs, AR's, MG's, Explosives, or ALL

Friendly Fire: On/Off

Invite Only/Open Session

Players will be able to keep their character and change clothes at your apartment, garage, or at clothing stores.

Players will be able to call mechanic to bring them their PV, and can get it repaired free at LSC, but no modifying the vehicle in any ways. (assuming custom cars is set to "ON")

You cannot drop weapons, only pick up weapons that spawn in random places across the map, like GTA IV; or use your custom weapons (if enabled)

No bad sport in these lobbies. Your PV get's destroyed: No bad sport, You call and get it back for free. You destroy someones car who's chasing you? You pay nothing.

No robbing stores, buying food, clothes (you can only change at clothing stores) car mods (LSC repairs you car for free, but thats all you can do, like pay n spray in GTA IV)

No armored cars; players do not drop money when they die, nor do NPCs

No bounties, mercenaries, airstrikes, or helicopter backup; but you can call merrywether for a helicopter pickup.

No Lester; his services are disabled.

Obviously,no jobs; this is free mode. Characters do not call your phone (Dom, Brucie, Simeon, Lester, etc) but you can still get invites to join missions/races/etc in regular GTAO via text.

I think that people would be able to play more how they wanted in a lobby like this, and not have to worry about going broke, and when they wanted to get back to grinding/earning money/ customizing vehicles or whatever, they can simply exit to normal GTAO via pause menu or starting a job by text.

Any suggestions? Ideas?

People have been asking for this since about mid October 2013...... R* won't do it because it will be a decline in Shark Cards sales. EVERYTHING R* does with GTA V/GTA V online is focused solely around trying to sell more and more Shark Cards.

I think the risk averse should just go back to GTA IV multiplayer if they have such a problem with how GTA:O is handled.

They're trying to world build here, not make a anarchic playground.

You think greedy rockstar would allow this? lol so u want to earn money then play in a match when u cant spend a lose it which means less cash card sales

Just play GTA4

- Better map, which is MUCH better for street fights and FM wars. More interiors, more trash on the pavements (which makes for good cover), and a much better road system which makes car chases fun

- Better driving physics

- You won't see supercars everywhere, if you have a supercar you found it and want to keep it.

- Better weapon balancing. No auto shotguns, miniguns, none of that sh*t

- And while you're doing all of this, you get a much better soundtrack to go along with it.

GTA5 has broken gameplay mechanics from the ground up. Only a complete overhaul would fix it.

Play GTA4 instead, much better game.

as much as i would like to see something like this

it will never happen, it pretty much goes against every design philosophy they have for this game

and i'm not just talking about cash cards, though they'd probably be the most practical reason holding it back

the whole persistent MMO-esque mechanics would pretty much be useless.

and finally having 2 more server types (I assume they'd split aim modes like now) would really divide the player base

yep, they have no intention of letting players have settings over "their world" or going backwards for that matter. this is the structural base they have started with and they will only move forward in that direction.

GTAO doesnt have a real free mode, its more like an Online Story Mode. Its an oppressed place with robocops coming to kill you even when you defend yourself against mercenaries or griefers..

Given this,I think the return of classic free mode from IV would be a blast.

Good point, so if they can have all kinds of game modes, why not an actual free mode? I don't care if they put a billion hours into this game, if I can't physically drive the cars in the game or actually kill people with the guns, its still a game, and should have some sort of fun level to it. Right now the most fun I have is killing innocents and causing havoc. I do think the mission payout balancing is a step in the right direction, however.

I agree with all those points. Especially the better map & music part; BUT, I have recently played GTA IV online and it's pretty dead. Besides, I don't know anyone that actually has the original GTA IV anymore ! I want to play as my created character with my friends, this free mode sh*t I'm proposing would breathe a whole new aspect of life into the game for me (And apparently others too)

Yes, I've noted several times I'm aware of the evil greedy mega corp known as R* (at least that's how most people here see them) and their plan to sell cash cards; this is just an idea, trying to gain support. Also this isn't necessarily for public lobbies, it's for playing the game with like-minded people, you could set the lobby to public and people who only had the same settings as you would join.

Yeah, i really, REALLY hate the money aspect of online; but GTA is my favorite game, so I play it. I Like how they balanced the payouts, but this game is extremely lopsided.

GTAO might as well take place in North Korea, and only those who purchase a cash card may be a part of the Imperialwether-Addermo-AutoGreifing-Army. The rest are dirty peasants forced to drive non premium vehicles who get a permanent one star wanted level and are only allowed to use a pistol with 5 bullets.

I wouldn't mind the no cops option, but no to all the rest.

I only like GTA4 for the races and airport madness. However, the racing in this game is a lot better/competitive, only thing I miss about 4 is the Sultan and terrorizing lobbies with my friends swooping down on people with the annihilator.

It's getting to the point where I would pay for this. 'Passive' mode is such a joke.

I would also like to be able to filter the type of race I can randomly join via my phone. The two options I want most is 'custom off' and 'non contact'.

I hope that the new versions give us all these filters we crave.

No ranks, no money just let us have fun random experiences in the world you've created R* !!!!!!!!!!!

COPS: ON/[OFF] *(Disables robbing 24/7s, stealing Simeon Cars and armored trucks. Missions still have police as usual)

Friendly Fire: ON/[OFF] *(Disables Bad Sport and Passive Mode. Player vehicles are damage proof and can not cause damage to other players)

*Using either of these options disables any money making or experience gaining while in free roam mode.

I like this idea because it means everyone can play worry free. GTA IV was one of those games you could escape from all your problems but GTA V seems to add to those problems.
