Why are NPCs in cars so stupid?

As someone who almost got killed on a motorcycle/bicycle by inattentive drivers a few times, I'd say the NPC traffic in GTA is very realistic.

 

The only criticism I have is that the game should have a model that tracks the flow of traffic and is referenced by players, instead of each player spawning cars in their vicinity, which explains like 75% of the worst traffic situations people experience in the game, like cars appearing out of nowhere or veering from one side of the road to the other.

Back in 2013, when this question was first posed to the group, I decided to ask one NPC in a car, "why are you so stupid?"

Her response was quick, clear, and even without words, very apt.

and this game gets a PS5 release. Story Mode isnt fun. you know what? I never did a police chase because its sh*t gameplaywise.. in 7 years!!! Even GTA 2 has better police chases.

but GTA Online is more important
