If the United States had no form of Police force, would you or would others still respect important laws such as speed limits, gun-free zones, or laws barring use of dangerous drugs like heroin or cocaine. Would you or would others still respect rights such as unpopular speech? These laws are rights are regularly protected by police officers. While some officers are corrupt, that is true of literally any profession in public service. I know of at least a few times DMV workers have been lazy or passive-aggressive, but I don't utterly hate every single DMV worker because of it.

 

On a world scale, the US has one of the best police forces in the world. Take a look at another superpower, China. China has the largest and most corrupt police force in the world. Their budget is 10 billion dollars more than the army's. That doesn't include all of their different secret polices and forces that suppress people like Falun Gong practitioners.

 

Lastly, to stay on topic, GTA's cops are super annoying, especially when they run into you and you get a wanted level.

Being lazy isn't a form of corruption. I'm simply saying from experience and where i live the police have a notorious reputation for corruption, brutality, drug dealing, drug trafficking, and yeah, murder. They hardly ever solve crimes when regular people get killed; but if something happens to one of their officers its a city-wide man-hunt. Evidence commonly "disappears" from the evidence rooms. There's been many investigations within the force but nothing ever gets solved.

 

Our police force is slowly becoming militarized, as well, which I'm sure will just make things worse.

 

Are ALL cops bad? NO! But most of them are and its hard to separate the good from the bad so in my eyes i hate them all.

Maybe you've had a different experience with cops. I treat all officers with respect, but there's always that one (our town has two) that does whatever he can within his power to make you feel intimidated and to make you feel like sh*t. I'm not sorry to say here, that cops do not deserve special political preference. There was a time when the typical guy that became a police officer was a young optimistic just wanting to serve his country and uphold the law, but today it seems most were picked on in high school and seek power to make you feel like they did.

 

GTA cops are annoying. Sometimes I pass up armored trucks because I know it's going to take me five minutes to shake them. Two updates ago they suddenly developed the ability to show up right behind my super car and ram it.

Hey, I totally get you. I know it's sad to see how police officers are looking more and more like bullies. But it's not fair to judge all officers with disdain and think they're out to try to get you. You said that cops do not deserve special political preference. Well, in a sense, they should deserve some sort of recognition for the work they do. I mean, put yourself in their shoes. There's always a chance you may not come home after a shift. These people have families too. Sure it's disappointing how some officers abuse their power, but it's not fair to judge all cops like that.

 

And btw, I did read your second sentence. I'm just disgusted at how most ppl in this thread are badmouthing officers of the law like they've always been meat-head mercenaries.
