GTA Fan Art

I was wondering how people feel about the fan art that Rockstar promotes every week on their Newswire.

 

Personally, I am perturbed ever time I see these "News" articles on the Newswire. Now I do agknowledge the talent, skill, imagination and whatever these people have that I don't that inspires them to make such good art. Props to Rockstar for actually acknowledging these fans also, but shouldn't they be working on the game? That's always the first thing I think anyways.

R* isn't one person, they probably have several people with possibly no knowledge of game development that manage networking.

Its entirely likely that the people at r* responsible for finding and publicising fan art know absolutely nothing about coding, modelling, etc. So while I don't find it very interesting it doesn't make me worry that the game isn't being worked on. Other things might, but not this.

Gotta love the picture with the Modded Liberator a little while back. Shows how much they care about modding n such. Not that I care about it or about modders at all, it's the hypocrisy of the picture.

You guys are likely right and I figured but I still think they seem awfully focused on it and that it uses valuable resources they could be paying coders and such.

It's funny... like, the Tumblr Artists featured there I followed, and all of them shipped Michael and Trevor. for example, one of the people featured a normal drawing of Michael, and I went on their page and found this:

The news wire stuff and what gets published on it is most likely controlled by the sales and marketing section, so it won't detract from the development. It is all part of staying engaged with the fan base, every week the have similar articles, fan art, crew videos and stuff, snapmatic, etc. It's just to keep the product in front of people.

Yeah I'm pretty sure Rockstar have separate teams for promotional stuff and game development.
