Where does GTAO fall short compared to other R* MP modes?

The Feud System from Max Payne 3 Multiplayer would certainly make things much more interesting. It gave Crews a lot more importance and unity and I know alot of people were expecting them to be a part of GTAO once upon a time.

Basically once enough bloodshed has been made between members of opposing crews with at least 2 members on each side a feud breaks out, its pretty much a 1v1 deathmatch with more players each side and its a total of 10 kills to win. All feuds were recorded on Social Club so you could tell who your main rivals are and it created a healthy competitive element to the crew system.

It doesnt sound like much but unless you have participated in a "feud" in MP3 you wont fully appreciate the set up & potential it would have in this game. This was a feature used in a team deathmatch based MP however i think the Feud System would apply very well to GTAs TDM, Vs Missions, Captures and especially the free roam enviroment.

More structured when it should have been less, IMO

People will complain they need a purpose to play a game, but honestly that's just CoD hive mind crap going on. I'd rather have the open sessions of GTA IV that let me do whatever I wanted than the grind fest that GTA O has become.

Edit: To go into more detail, I feel that there was no real reason that Rockstar couldn't have implemented a free play lobby that had weapon pickups, controllable weather, police that could be turned on and off and probably the other things from GTA IV that I am forgetting. Simply make it so that there isn't a way to gain RP or money in this mode. That way, everyone would have been happy instead of everyone constantly arguing over the merits of having so many unlockables VS pure freedom.

Also, most of the missions would have been better served as random events ala Mafiya Work instead of single mission modes that have to be loaded up every time. This would have basically killed two birds with one stone, as many people complain that missions take to long to load and it would have also stopped people from grinding specific missions.

I'm not saying that this should have been the ONLY thing. They still should have had *big* missions that would have to be loaded up, but the vast majority of GTA Online missions didn't need to be this way.

RDR map took forever to get from one spot to another. It's so easy for campers(snipers) to kill you from what seems like a third of the map away.

People will say about joining the less hard core and friendly fire games well the same can be said about Gta online and joining invite only sessions.

About better servers etc. Its not very hard on the ps3 or servers to draw 70% desert, 10% grass and and rock, 10% buildings and other 10% players and wildlife.

I think a lot of people have this memory of RDR online but I think it would fail greatly if a lot of people played it now.

Travelling was fun on RDR though and quite frankly it was to be expected. You could fast travel to the posse leader anyway, just as you can fast travel to apartments in GTA V.

Also, sniping was waaayyyyyy better in RDR. If you're at the South hangars at the GTA V airport, you can't even see people who are at the helipads. Also, what's with the audio pickup you get from snipers? o.O Was that in RDR too? (That would be ironic)

This game falls short on CUSTOMIZATION

The character and clothes customization sucks.

Saints Row 2 had better customization than GTA Online and it's a 2008 game.

However I give them credit on the cars. It's fairly decent. I would love to see Midnight Club LA customization ported over to GTA V as a dlc.

Have to STRONGLY disagree with this.

It did take forever. You know why that was nice? It wasn't a damn rush. You could just ride on with other players or your posse. Talk, enjoy the environment. Maybe encounter a mini war with a posse that was going to clash paths with you. It was fun for that exact damn reason. They also did have the travel wheels located in each town or landmark.

As for a counter about the snipers? Yeah, now it's so easy for god mode users to kill you. Or, better yet. It's so easy for twankers, jets, random snipers, or just a random asshole to kill you now.

And no, the sessions on GTAO and RDR are not even close to the same. RDR had it diverse. GTA:O has really one type of session.

When RDR Online works? It's still amazing. It's still fun. It's still a laid back and easy to enjoy experience.

GTA IV had infinitely better deathmatches simply because it didn't make your screen go all flashy and sh*t.

Activities. Poker and Liar's Dice (RDR) > Retirement Simulator 2014, a.k.a. Golf, Tennis and Darts (GTAO)

Kinda wish that I would've played more Poker/Liar's Dice in RDR before the multiplayer got screwed up.

Yeah, this is extremely annoying and it's going onto the list. Along with activities.

It's even more annoying because it's like a punishment for being too good. "HERE, HAVE AN UGLY FUZZY TRIPPY SCREEN FOR KILLING A TON OF PLAYERS."

OH sh*t THANKS.

Yeah, and they're not rushing to fix it because GTA is a priority now. Which is.. kind of sad.

Tennis is fun, tbh. I like tennis and darts. Golf, I can strongly do without. Hopefully the casino is going to bring in Poker and Liar's Dice [i strongly doubt it'll have Liar's Dice, but sh*t.]

Sadly, I haven't actually played it yet. I have yet to pick up Max Payne 3. Keep wanting to get around to doing it, but I keep forgetting. This does sound great though.

Everything other than free mode is just so much slower than GTA IV, I really enjoy playing races on GTAO but the fact that I can only do about 5 races in half an hour (because the of the SLOW and sluggish lobby/menu system), combined with the terrible habit the game has of freezing while loading races and timing out, makes it not fun at all.

Sometimes I just wish for a simple lobby system like GTA IV, couldn't get any simpler to invite friends, PICK YOUR OWN RACES from a SIMPLE list. For a game that's meant to be the future concept for GTA it's pretty poor how its taken such a huge step backwards, for something as simple as lobbies.

EDIT : The race I was just loading has frozen again...... :(

I'll copy and paste what I said in another thread. I hope it relates.

"I like this idea. I remember the days of IV's freemode. There was no sense of ownership to anything. Money was irrelevant and everything was free. You found an Infernus? Sweet. Aww, your Infernus blew up? Dang.. looks like you gotta find another one. Some may debate me about weapon pickups, but I for one liked weapon pickups. If you wanted to go against somebody or the cops, you better gear up and find the weapons for yourself. No buying stuff over a counter.

I also liked the fact that contacts and in game features are disabled to bring it back to the core of GTA IV's freemode. Last thing we need is some random guy going off the map and calling airstrikes & muggers. Nah man, if you wanted to fight, you fought with no help (unless you had friends).

I think this also would encourage people to work together or at least be comfortable being 10 feet away from each other. Sheesh man, remember in GTA IV when friendly fire was off and people used to blast each other away using Rocket Launchers? Remember when the entire lobby would band together and fight the cops? I liked it when people were much calmer and could run up to you and do their little taunts. The city was our playground.

GTAIV_Liberty_City_map.png

*sigh* now everybody is all hostile and paranoid.

I hope this thread stays up here for a while. This really should be implemented. :^:"

Everything everyone else said pretty much hit the nail on the head but some things I'll like to add. Red Deads mp was perfect. You pressed select and everything you could possibly want is in one long list, right there. Gta online you gotta pause, click, click, click, click.

Then you want to join a friends session, the game zooms out on map only to tell you your friends session is full of players and you gotta wait for it to load back up - R* how about you get all the details before you actually f*cking pull me out of my session only to tell me the lobby is full! It couldn't be that hard...could it?

This. All of this. Red Dead had such great competitive multiplayer. Preset sessions for death matches and capture modes, you had to use the guns on the map as opposed to using your entire arsenal which is totally unfair to lower level players and also encouraged map control (not to mention not charging you for your own ammo every match), you weren't dealing with stupid custom maps with unarmed combat, and above all else, people actually played these modes. On PS3, I have to join at least 6-7 deathmatches before I find one with guns and even then, the lobbies are never full. I also miss the cops and robbers game from GTA4.

Not A Nice Person

I miss friendly lobbies in RDR. It was fun joining a posse and players actually helped each other and not cry because their bull got shot.

The zombie mode in Undead Nightmare was cool too, Climbing on rooftops griefing zombies :(

so this has just turned into a bitch and moan thread about gta online

You can't please every1 and you can't all content

Focusing on where gta online "falls short" maybe blinds you to how good this game is

I have gta 4 and RDR and this is much better

but hey thats just my opinion

They are different games, with different concepts

You complain about the money but having to earn your money, cars, guns is probs whats keeping players coming back and continuing to play

how boring would a free lobby get? very boring, very quickly

This is a MUCH bigger game that RDR and GTA 4, with much more content

Can only strongly agree with this. though I didn't have the occasion to play RDR multiplayer until a few days ago. (Had it on 360 when it came out but didn't have gold membership, and bought it on PS3 recently).

Still, GTA Online is far better than GTA IV multiplayer, and it's not likely to die as fast as GTA IV MP, which let's face it got pretty tedious pretty fast, did.

@lazyassedlover: Maybe if you actually explained why GTAO is better?

For a game that's meant to be the future concept for GTA it's pretty poor how its taken such a huge step backwards, for something as simple as lobbies. ...

It seems crazy to say this now but I used to think GTA IV's lobbies and menus were overly complicated, ha!

Man, what's the deal with "couldn't connect to that game so you gotta find a new one instead of just dropping back into the one you were in"...? :S

@Robaldinio

If I did that, id be here all day and end up with an essay

there are a thousand reasons

but for the forum it'll be TL:DR

If you honestly think RDR and GTA4 are better than GTA online, then boy, that's you, nothing I can say to that, your opinion

without putting my taste or opinion into that matter, it is a bigger game with waaay more content that a lot of people enjoy

I doubt you really think that tho, you have a soft spot for them games, I feel you
