Best to worst storywise IMHO

1.IV and its episodes

2.San Andreas

3.Vice City

4.V (Yes,it wasn't THAT bad for me,call me a fanboy igaf)

5.Vice City Stories

6.Chinatown Wars

7.III(Its story blew my mind back in 2001 tho)

8.Liberty City Stories(Game is fun tho)

9.Advance (it's like they wanted to make it terrible on every aspect,Gameplay, graphics even for a GBA game and Story)

In the end of the day,let people like what they want to like, dont threaten them because their opinion is different🙂

sh*t, it really is on fashion to simply hate GTA V like if it was the coming of the anti-christ on this forum...

GTA V is like a good light hearted TV heist series from the 80's. It's funny, weird, got some cool scenes, different characters, and is telled in a episodic way which felt actually unique, I actually don't even think is a bad story at all, but well, as we say here in Brazil: Opinion is like ass, each person has their own

Liberty City Stories have the worst story, by the way. Weak protagonist without a personality, weak motivations, it feels like that never had something interesting happening in the story at all.

I pick the ballad of gay tony. I didn't like ending because of how it was scripted.

I believe that LCS and especially VCS are both very underrated GTA titles. In some aspects, Stories duology are on par or even better than their more popular brothers. The fact that they delivered a proper GTA Experience on a handheld makes it all that impressive.

It's worth mentioning tho that the gta storylines in general, with few exceptions, aren't exactly the most logical or in-depth story telling ever msde. It's not that they are bad, just that it's there to help push some sort of incentive to the gameplay. GTA 3 story is basically about a criminal seeking revenge. Vice City and San Andreas are about a man rise to the top and rulling the whole city.

With that out of the way, i think LCS Storyline is pretty much my least favourite out of the 3D Era not counting Advance.

I can't really describe it but basically, it's about mafia families trying to control Liberty City. It's fine and all but it's forgettable at best. Like the main antagonist is the absolute worse out of any 3D/HD era period. He randomly appear in one mission, gives power to the Diablos and Triads as well as cause conflicts between the 3 Mafia families and then disappears until like the final 2 missions. There was this election sub story through the Staunton Island Chapter where Donald Love feels way out of character compared to his III counterpart.

Maybe I'm saying random sh*t out of my ass but yeah, LCS Storyline falls a bit short. Aside from Salvatore Leone, barely any other characters are any good

I'm of the opposite of you lol. I thought LCS had a very fleshed out story, and I didn't mind Massimo being a lesser antagonist because it was mostly power plays going on in the city. I quite liked Toni and his snarky ass attitude lol.

With that said... I'm just gonna go with the popular opinion and say GTA 5. I'll say it again - I don't mind the light hearted tone, it was a breath of fresh air from gritty depressing GTA 4. It's the execution that fails.

1. Michael's family is completely unlikable yet the game has you treat them as if you must die for them.

2. The Lost being shoehorned in as fodder.

3. The antagonists being cartoonish; Madrazo would've been a better character as an antagonist. And the start of the game sorta builds it like that.

4. None of the protagonists feel particularly fleshed out, and M/T's relationship with Franklin is underdone.

5. Much of it feels melodramatic. Especially Trevor just causing problems for no real reason.

Idk, it just feels flat

I commend you tittytwisters for keeping the "wah wah wah" running gag. I could barely keep a running joke without getting bored faster than hearing Franklin Clinton's dialogue.

cant remember

IMO the graph is skewed because of GTA5's large player base. I'm also not a fan of GTAV's story, but for the whole series overall I still think V is a lot better than say GTA3 or LCS.

GTA V. Whole game is just our protagonists suckin FIB’s dick. Michael and Trevor argue like idiots. Almost nothing makes sense in the story. They just threw as much random stuff as possible in the story, maybe to achieve the three playable characters feature? In the end, gameplay ended up being not so much entertaining regardless but that’s a different topic.

I cannot recall the story of VCS and I haven’t played GTA, GTA 2 and Advance but regarding GTA III and LCS, these games don’t try too hard to be something which is why the stories work for me. One major thing is Toni Cipriani and Claude, actually stick to their plot armors. So our protagonists are these crazy men who can take on armies of trained killers but they are scared of the feds? Oh yeah adds up definetly....

Remember how Toni answered to Leon Mcaffrey when they met?

Leon: “My cut, where is it?”

Toni: “Up your ass, buddy. Don’t make me laugh. You keep f*ckin with me, I’ll put you, your friends, your friends’ families, your whole f*ckin home town under the sword!”

That’s where GTA V, like SA majorly f*cked up. This happens through the entire story in both games.

GTA V easily, how I would improve the story is

1) Have Franklin get a hold of Devins cars alone, no Michael or Trevor

1) Have Michael go to Liberty with Solomon for 1-2 missions

3) Have Trevor kill someone other then Johnny.... like Brucie or Mori

4) Ditch the pointless Option A and B

5) Don't rush killing all the major antagonists in 1 mission

6) Have Trevor and Michael in the desert a whole lot longer

It's not our fault that the story is just all over the place and so inconsistent. 😭

GTAV's story has its moments. Its real strengths are in Michael's arc as well as the brief glimpses we get of Franklin's gang life. Had the story been centred around either of those two aspects it would have been a LOT stronger. Both Michael and Franklin come across as real, complex people. But the rest of the cast lets it down badly. Michael's family is a grotesque caricature to the point where I just wanted them to go away. And Trevor is such a malignant influence that he makes the entire story seem worse than it is. Imagine a great production of Macbeth but all the way through it, Scrappy Doo just zips around the stage screeching PUPPY POWER!!!

The story isn't the worst, Michael is in fact one of the most human and complex protags in the series - but the sheer obnoxiousness of Trevor and the low brow nature of the rest of the world make it feel like the worst, because it feels like a great story trying to escape from something mediocre and juvenile.

As for the actual worst? I'd have to go with Liberty City Stories and let me tell you why:

  1. Donald Love's ENTIRE character is butchered. He was the most powerful man in the entire city, but in that game is basically Niles from Frasier.
  2. Salvatore is robbed of all mystique and feels a lot less special as a character through overexposure and a poor script, Frank Vincent is trying his best, but the heart's just not there.
  3. Toni is a heartless monster with zero humanity. He commits acts of terrorism, killing probably thousands of innocent people, with zero qualms whatsoever. He's a throwback to the 2D era days of turning people into hotdogs, and it's not a good fit for what it ostensibly a serious crime story. How are we meant to care one bit about this colossal prick?
  4. GTAIII portrayed the city as a sleazy, dystopian nightmare, but LCS plays up those elements for laughs. JD O Toole is one of the most egregious examples. To the point where it doesn't come across as a tonal choice but Rockstar being childish and expecting us to laugh at a fat man in a gimp suit.
  5. The whole game exists in a weird, uneasy middle ground between the heightened reality of the 3D era and the more human approach of GTA IV. When Toshiko commits suicide, it's clearly meant to be emotional, but the tone hasn't been established to make it have any real weight. It FEELS like Rockstar were bored with the classic formula and were trying something new, but didn't go all in, so the whole product feels muddled.

To me gta 3’s story is easily the worst. That’s because it’s not even a story it’s just your guy hopping from mission to mission

Sure it's mission to mission, Claude is the silent assassin, but it still had some story. I'll pick GTA III too from those that have story being the "worse" from the rest but it wasn't as bad. As for LCS I never finished it and don't remember much but I found it worse than III a bit so I am not sure.

Then it's Vice City? but that doesn't mean it is anywhere close to being bad, the ones that followed after in my opinion all had really good stories. (I don't count advance/chinatown wars)

GTA V is next which, again in my opinion it would've been better if the map was larger and it had far more missions and story to tell.. That was the main issue I think. With 3 protagonists I expected at least 100 main story missions.

You can't really compare them, though. GTA3 was an experiment, it was the first uneasy steps into not only new technology, but a brand new territory of 3D gaming.

Meanwhile, GTA5's story is arbitrary (thank God Michael used his iconic line only one other living person would recognize so that way the rest of the plot would kick off), consistently deprives you of any reward for doing missions time after time (everybody loves piddling around for an hour doing the prep work for the Merryweather Dock Heist just to get absolutely nothing out of it), and then forces you to do a Yoga minigame because "f*ck you, you're doing it or you can f*ck off." All the characters are irritating, the sandbox elements are completely gelded, and the missions are woefully restrictive (some failing you just for using a different gun than what it wants you to use). The game doesn't respect "The Player" as an entity, and I think Rockstar would have been better off just making GTA5 a TV show if they wanted to make it so tightly scripted and choreographed. Call it "played out", but I've never had less fun playing a video game all the way back to playing on my older siblings' NES when I was still in diapers.

Let me put it to you this way - Comparing GTA3 to GTA5 is like comparing the Ford Model-T to the Ford Pinto.  Yes, the model T is little more than a horse carriage with an engine compartment, and lacks every single nicety we now take for granted ... but you know what? At least the damn thing doesn't explode in a deadly fireball when you crash into the back of it.

Having played SAMP for the better part of the last 10 years and having consistently played San Andreas singleplayer's once in a while when mod testing, I gotta say holy flying sh*t does the story suck ass.

Even though GTA III’s story is rather simple that is actually one of the reasons I prefer it over GTA V’s.

By simple I don’t mean it in a derogatory sense, but I just like how it flows. I haven’t finished GTA III’s story in probably 20 years and I can still recall key story moments from the top of my head without thinking about it too much.

Whereas with GTA V it can be seriously convoluted at times and not because I believe R* wrote it to be some highly sophisticated and difficult to understand intelligent work, but because of messy pacing and direction issues. GTA III just gets to the point is the best way I can sum it up.

Plus GTA III has way more memorable and likeable characters IMO. The vast majority of the characters in GTA V are insufferable and irritating f*ckheads which I guess is fine for what they were going for, but it would be nice if it had ONE likeable character to root for like basically every other GTA. The only characters in GTA V I like ironically are the GTA IV/EFLC cameos.

So yeah. I still think GTA V’s story sucks the fat one for the most part. GTA III’s deserve recognition for bringing cinematic qualities to the series.

The biggest problem with V's cast is that almost every character in it is a cardboard cutout stereotype. There's barely nothing unique about the characters or their personalities. The cast's full of tried and true movies and TV shows tropes and clichés that it actually starts to feel painfully generic. We got the middle aged divorced fed, we got the dumb-as-rocks black gangbanger, we got the paranoid conspiracy theorist, we got the cuckold cousin loser, we got the spoiled Chinese mob boss kid, we got the rich investor asshole, we got the disabled yet big brained hacker etc. We all have seen these types of characters multiple times. There's barely any unique twists to them to make them fresh or at least stand out. Michael's family is probably the worst example since the narrative focuses a lot on them and it forces you so hard to care for them, yet their personalities are about as deep as a puddle in a Middle Eastern desert. Jimmy is just a walking breathing stereotype of the mainstream media's depiction of gamers and COD fans, Tracey's whole purpose is just be a dumb valley girl bimbo so people can jerk off and make pornographic art of her, and Amanda is just an insufferablely more annoying and obnoxious version of Skyler White. Even the most annoying and obnoxious characters in the series (Lance, Zero, Brucie) had at least some sort of character trait or fleshed out personality, wheres V's cast are so embarrassingly one dimensional they make being annoying or insufferable their whole character trait. It's really hard to care or to even remotely like these characters when they're just nothing more but lifeless personalitless caricatures in an already average and forgettable story.
