I merged the Vaporwave topic in to this topic - Mister Pink

Well, it's one of the most hated genres on the internet, but what's your opinion on it?

my only real opinion on vaporwave is that I don't understand why it's so "hated."

it's not meant to be commercial so what is there to hate?

it's just kids from the 80's who grew up, became stoners, and started mashing up their nostalgic memories into down-tempo synth pop.

I've made vaporwave before, I find it to be pretty fun to make. Besides Vektroid's projects, Eccojams, and Far Side Virtual my favorite vaporwave albums are Mediafired's The Pathway Through Whatever, Atmospheres by Eco Virtual, and the one with the Speed Racer album cover.

I haven't had much experience with vaporwave, but a buddy of mine showed me a video describing one kid's love for it and I was in tears laughing.

Hi MacAshford, I see you claim to lurk /x/. Were you by any chance in a stream a few of us did 'bout a year ago where we watched a russian family on their couch-bed and listened to vaporwave all night? That's been my only experience with the genre, and I liked it just fine then. It made nice background music. I couldn't imagine seeking it out to listen, but to each their own. :)

That said, the art and video production for vaporware music videos is always really neat. I wish I knew how to throw that sort of stuff together. It looks like lots of 'em use Adobe After Effects, and there's no way I'm gonna download Adobe software. :(

e: Haha! It grew on me. I've been listening to it for about two days now. Thanks OP. :p

I wasn't there for the stream, though it sounds like fun :p

I can message you some vaporwave recommendations if you like :)

You Down??

Who likes the stuff? It's picking up a lot of steam lately, even though cats have been producing this ish for several years now. I think it's probably PFP the best Electronic music being produced today. I find myself listening to an awful lot of it and it has a lot of great sub-genres. Funny how it relies heavily on synths which were prominent in the 80's.

First heard music like this in a couple of video game called Hotline Miami (anyone play it?) and Farcry 3 Blood Dragon.

I can relate. Been listening to stuff like this for a few years, but haven't delved deep into the lesser-known artists until recently.. Found them mostly thru The FutureSynth SubReddit, if u haven't already explored that f*cking gem mine..

oh and this is helpful too.

Hotline Miami!!! Yea I've only played it for about 2 or 3 times.

This kind of music is good at start, boring in continue and frustrating at the end.

However I still like some Electro songs.

Mister Pink

No Kavinsky in here?

A couple of fast BPM'ers I heard today. Here's one. Good stuff guys keep it comin'!

Love love love this stuff. Fully intend to make it the soundtrack to the upcoming summer.

I can't be f*cked to keep up with whatever name it goes by this week so I just refer to the genre as sexy elevator music. A pal of mine put me onto Miami Nights 1984 this time last year and I've been into it ever since. Babylon 86 and Tommy '86 are faves ATM.

How do you all find new material?

Subscribe to Maniac Synth, NewRetroWave and LuigiDonatello on YouTube. They consistently post synth on their channels and it's all good. Also pretty sure the generic term for the genre is Synthwave. That's what I label most of it as.

Based on what you like so far Tyla I would also recommend Trevor Something

And... Starcat.
