Barclays Fantasy Premier League 2014/15

Welcome guys, to the return of the Barclays Fantasy Premier League for the 2014/15 season.
The rules are fairly straight forward, so it's fitting this topic will go along the same lines.

• Each player has an initial budget of £100M to spend on their squad.
• A player's squad must contain 2 goalkeepers, 5 defenders, 5 midfielders and 3 forwards in total.
• A captain and vice-captain must be selected and the captain of your team will score double points (eg. an assist is normally worth 3 points but will be worth 6 points) and the vice-captain will automatically become your captain if your original captain did not play for that gameweek.
• You can select up to 3 players from a single BPL team.
• Like any other team in football, only 11 players can be played at one time, meaning the remaining 4 players will be on the bench and can not score you any points.
• After selecting your squad, you can still buy and sell players by making transfers. You have unlimited transfers until the Premier League starts on the 16th August. After this deadline, you have the option to make one free transfer per gameweek and any transfer after this will deduct 4 points from your total points.
• A wildcard gives you the option to make a free transfers at any point in the season; even if you've already used your free transfer for that gameweek. You have 2 wildcards for the whole season so use them wisely.
• Be aware that players in your squad may become injured or unavailable throughout the season, so be sure to check your team regularly and make changes if necessary to give you the best possible chance of winning.

The joke is that my PSN is Riko Begovic.

I created it when IV came out by making sound Russian my own real name cause the game had the Russian mob theme in it.

Little did I know that Begovic was a real surname. Didn't know the goalkeeper yet in 2008.

Let's talk tactics: Tommy, you have a lot of Arsenal in your back 4 (back 5 including keeper) why? Is this because they're playing Palace?

 

I'm asking because I like to spread the risk amongst my defenders and have them from several different teams because it is far easier for defenders to lose points/gain nothing than it is forwards.

I always feel like the defense is the hardest position to fill. To gain any significant points, the keeper has to be decent for that team too, that's why I think defenders from Chelsea are a good shout because they have a great keeper in between the sticks too.

 

The thing I noticed with my team is that I think my midfield is a little weak. I'm confident with my attack even though I would have liked Lukaku to be involved somewhere but I chose Rooney ahead of him. Noticed I don't have any City players there either; I was going to put Zabaleta in but I'm not sure whether the City squad will be rotated at RB with Sagna.

Yeah good point actually. I'm going to change by squad around a bit before the season starts maybe opt for cheaper defenders so I can get better midfielders.

Not exactly an inspired bunch that. Are you able to trade down someone in order to afford someone such as RvP, Sturridge etc? Or maybe look at Lukaku? RvP might not play right away but you can bet your bottom dollar he'll be good for the other 36 and you can't always transfer how you want when you want.

 

Edit: I see you've got Lukaku. Stick him on.

 

Edited one, took out the Ox as after a bit of thought I'm not sure how much Wenger will play him, then decided to take a random punt on Januzaj. Risky, but he had a good first season and LvG will be looking at building a team for the future there.

 

 

Lineup for game week 1 pretty much confirmed I reckon. Gambling on Sturridge picking up where Suarez left off.

Surprised not too many people have Bojan. Stoke have been playing rather well in their pre-season friendlies, and Bojan has already got a few goals to his name, plus he only costs 5.5 at the moment.
