Even movie critic Roger Ebert, who has reviewed movies for more than thirty years, hasn't seen anything like the movies of this summer: "Every week brings its new surprises. I watch as Austin Powers drinks coffee that contains excrement, and two weeks later I go to American Pie and watch a character drink beer that contains the most famous bodily fluid from There's Something About Mary. In Big Daddy, I see an adult role model instruct a 5-year-old on how to trip in-line skaters, (and) urinate in public." He goes on to comment about another major teen movie of the summer, South Park, Bigger, Longer, and Uncut. He says it has sentences constructed so completely out of the unspeakable that he was unable to describe much of the movie in a family newspaper. Christian beware! We are in a spiritual war! And the ammunition in the war is today's entertainment media. We are being asked to accept a value system as being normal that would put Sodom and Gomorrah to shame. Your attendance at these movies is showing acceptance. I believe God had these movies and much of today's entertainment in mind when He inspired Paul to write Ephesians 5:3 & 4: "Let there be no sexual immorality, impurity, or greed among you. Such sins have no place among God's people. Obscene stories, foolish talk, and coarse jokes—these are not for you." And verses 11-13: "Take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness; instead, rebuke and expose them. It is shameful even to talk about the things that ungodly people do in secret. But when the light shines on them, it becomes clear how evil these things are." Verses 11-13 are a constant challenge to me. How much should I expose without exposing too much? Pray for Al Menconi Ministries that we will have God's wisdom as we make decisions and write and speak about today's media. Also, please pray for God's protection on this ministry and for my family as we attempt to shine God's light on the emptiness of this world. I love the TV show, and have watched nearly every episode, but when the movie came out and they play father f*cker (or whatever that song was called), and played the swearing in every second sentence it just got a bit too much. They based the TV show on the crudeness of it all and that's what made it great, they based the movie on the language, which is way short of the standard Parker and Stone had already set.
