No it isn't, lol. GTA IV's launch was heavy and different for a lot of people. The insanely gargantuan leap from SA to IV was as different in tone as you can get. Of course, V is, like IV was to SA, completely opposite in tone. But it's the same engine, the same era and the same generation. IV represented a very large leap for the series, and with that leap it both satisfied and angered a lot of people all at the same time.

 

V is simply a sequel to a now firmly established HD era game. It doesn't mean there won't be big features or changes, and it doesn't mean there won't be a split between fans on whether or not some new changes are welcome, but it is not nearly as much of a leap for the series as IV was. The cycle is very different indeed.

I think it's a really good game, but there are so many stupid little things that make the game less enjoyable such as...

 

- can't leave car engines running

 

- helicopter turbulence

 

- no crouching

 

- 1 star instantly becoming 2 stars

 

- 1 star taking way too long to lose

 

- can't push people

 

- can't target enemies legs and make them limp

 

- stars for crimes nobody witnessed

 

- peds calling cops on you for nothing

 

- disappointing rewards for collecting items and 100%

 

- time limit on invincibility cheat WTF?????

 

- limiting freedom to do what I want (can't shoot family or friends)

 

- cars exploding when running over them with the huge dump truck

 

- convenience stores not marked on map

 

- ridiculous helicopter spawn rate

 

- 30 minute triathlon

some of the points you made are definitely valid and not just the common phrase its not as fun as SA

probably along with the story length my major complaints

I really don't like how the cars explode when you land on the top of them. It's really annoying when you climb all the way up Mount Chiliad with your car to do some stunts, and then try jumping off of it and doing a flip or two, only to have your car explode.

its a shame GTA IV got bashed so much I liked the new serious direction GTA took and would have liked if Rockstar continued with it

This always happens. People see something and assume more than is reasonable based on something happening in the background.

 

I've been over this many times and the people in question fail to see the point - that they can't blame Rockstar for them misinterpreting the trailer and assuming that what they saw meant something else.

the game was underwhelming compared to all the pre release info and screenshots, i dont care if it wasnt rockstar i dont care who it was. i have an opinion and i posted it.

 

does it hurt you when someone says they dont like gta v? why are you defending a game that made billions of dollars in its first couple of days. it doesnt need any of you D riders protecting its honor. i said plain and simple why i didnt like it, cvg overhyped it, rockstar released bullshots. not blaming them but the game was a disappointment to me. i payed 140 dollars for a f*cking demo and now i have to pay again to get the game for the next gen which is most likely the game we saw in the pictures.

 

 

this game has so many filler missions. missions that make me say, is this grand theft auto 5, or crane simulator 2013.

 

the story was rushed imo and the map layout was terrible.

 

we got barely any interiors, but its ok because we have a vast ocean bed to explore, to bad the submarine is boring a sh*t.

 

the heists in the game where boring and not even as intense as three leaf clover in gta 4. the game was referencing heat so much that all we got was a very nice cutscene of them ramming an armored truck, but its ok because we get to shoot waves of police npc. how fun

there is no suspense in a heist. the paleto heist you have the juggernaut suits that make you feel invincible, the bureau raid was heavily scripted. and the jewel store heist was boring.

 

the game was about the "pursuit of the almighty dollar" remember when they said that. the game introduces heists but it takes place in the wrong city. the game would have made more sense taking place in las venturas. we could have gotten a freaking casino heist similar to oceans 11 which would have been more fun then a jewl store. las vegas is known for its money, why even have these three is los santos. trevor lives in the desert and has ron, a paranoide conspiracy theorist. why is ron not over in las venturas salivating about area 69. seriously trevor should have been living in the las venturas desert with ron, franklin would have been living in the las venturas ghetto with the gangs, and michael would have been living in the wealthy side of las venturas somewhere close to the strip

 

i could see all three living in las venturas much more than i could see them living in los santos. besides the fact that michael likes movies, its not like he needs los santos. las vegas is hot, he could gamble and could have a gambling problem hence the need to go and get money, and frank and lamar seem like the type to live in vegas and party at the strip clubs and casinos. i already mentioned trevor but hes the exact type of person to be living out on a trailer park in the desert, not an abandoned town in socal. area 69 would have been a much more interesting place than fort zancudo and might have even given us reason to care about merryweather. like maybe merryweather comes from area 69 and trevor gets them pissed of while landing his plane on their runway.

 

it would not have taken too much console resources to do a las venturas the size of los santos and a massive open desert with small towns and lots of other good stuff. how the hell are you going to pick los santos and not even have it revolve around vinewood. thats like if they do liberty city, but the game only has missions in alderny. wtf is the point.

 

 

 

 

 

i find it funny how gta online has more missions than the main story.

 

all this game needed was a slower paced story, everything happens so fast and i feel it was done this way so we could all just play gta online. but if the game just had more missions and more missions that actually had to do with grand theft auto instead of picking things up with a crane or doing yoga. seriously i feel like this game should have been a movie. the script and dialogue is fantastic and whitty but it doesnt work as a VIDEO GAME. there was a new character introduced after every mission, but no depth was added to that character.

 

i felt nothing for simeon, he was in 2 missions thats it

 

 

who the hell was tanisha. wtf was the point of having her in the campaign if she shows up for 2 cutscenes and just drops off the face of the world.

 

 

i didnt even know who agent sanchez was until i replayed the game.

 

 

 

and what the hell was up with this madrazo guy, hes built up as the main antagonist and then becomes a flaccid background character that causes no more trouble for the protagonists.

 

 

 

the side character where criminally underused. ron would have been one of the most fun characters to do missions for. ron is a paranoide conspiracy theorist who has his own freaking radio show and you mean to tell me he doesnt give out a single mission. wasted potential. he could have sent one of the protags to go look for ghosts or aliens, go explore fort zancudo or the abandoned hotel at sandy shores. he could have given out fun missions but instead, we have to walk around the map looking for spaceship parts for this hippie guy if we wanted get a space ship buggy. really? what is this legend of zelda. why do i have to walk around getting parts. i thought this was grand theft auto, the revolutionary game series.

 

its things like that that makes the game feel empty. michael works at a movie studio and we dont even get any side missions related to it. how many times do you have to sit in a movie theater and watch meltdown to get enjoyment. movie studio + grand theft auto should equal some crazy missions. how is it that we dont have stuntman missions. a 2013 gta game still doesnt have stuntman missions? but we can sit in a movie theater and watch a boring 5 minute film. DO YOU SEE THE PROBLEM I AM HAVING WITH THIS GAME.

 

what about snapmatic, i freaking love snapmatic, exept i cant even use snapmatic. i am one of the many people out there that have a glitch on their snapmatics that doesnt allow upload of photos and there is no patch for it. great, so now what can i do with the phone. browse the web, awesome im on the internet in a grand theft auto game.

 

the shooting, the shooting in my opinion is terrible. every gun has tracer rounds and every shooter is a crackshot. your health depletes faster than in any splinter cell game.

 

speaking of splinter cell how awesome is it that we can customize our weapons and try out the new "stealth feature" . now i can finally live out my gta fantasy of going ontop of a building and sniping people with a silenced sniper. oops too bad cops can now smell silenced rounds and will send out the helicopters to come deal with me.

 

remember in gta 4 when you jumped out of a car and niko bounced off the roads. reamember in gta when you jumped out of a car and mike trev frank did that wierd slide on the road thing.

i would say so when i first got it i was not tbh but it was my own Fault rushing through it and completing it after 2 days really ruined it for me but im on my 3rd playThrough now and i have to say im enjoying it lot more it really feels like im playing through An Adventure now that im not rushing through it. it Truly is a Technical Masterpiece some of the Missions are just so much fun and At times Breathtaking the story still has its Missed Opportunities and silly Gimmicks and its not as well put Together as IV + Episodes but i still think the Story is Engaging and the Dialogue is at times sheer genius and the Story is still easily better than San Andreas and even Vice City IMO

 

Overall i would say it just about warrants a 9/10.

This is definitely my most-played game ever. I got it at midnight release and have played it almost every day. I don't even play online. I've put in hundreds of hours alone in SP, and plenty more to come. I'm definitely not dissapointed with the game, as you can obviously tell. I find plenty of ways to have fun, enjoying the true beauty that San Andreas is.

This my friend is why I am a vehicle collector, particularly proof vehicles. In SA, I like taking my Comprehensive Proof Infernus and actually launching off the ramp on top of Mt. Chiliad and falling to the ground and slamming it so hard the vehicle jumps into the air and does several flips yet again before coming down. Love being able to ride away from that without even a dent and especially dying from the impact.

 

This is what I mean by fun > realism

 

There is a certain "fun" and "freedom" that the other games had (III, VC, SA, LCS, VCS, IV, TLaD, TBoGT) which totally annihilates GTA V.

 

At least GTA IV knew how to mix fun and realism perfectly. V is way too scripted to be considered fun, imo.

I would agree with some of the people here;

 

It is a good atmosphere, good surroundings, but the missions are boring and the game lacks depth. I am awaiting a DLC for new missions.

 

I feel the characters have had thought, but what else has? The story-line (in my personal opinion) is something I could knock up in an hour. I feel deprived. Robbed, even! Although there is a huge island to explore, what is there to do?

This score seems accurate. I also give it anywhere from a 6 to a 7 out of 10. However this is based solely off a "video game" rating. When you slap the big bad "GTA" in front of it, the percentage goes down a bit because as I've stated numerous times, it doesn't feel like a GTA game, just an open world game with missions, vehicles, and a map, etc. But every open world game shares these types of things, I assume, so there really isn't THAT much special about V considering every GTA prior to V has done exactly what V does, but better, with more freedom, imo.

I am disappointed and I really think that I wouldn't spend my money on it if I could turn back the time. I would buy it, but much later for lowered price, because it's nowhere near close its first day value.

 

It's one of the worst GTA made by R* in my honest opinion and only one worse were Advance (not even made by R*) and GTA 2 (but this came out in 1999). GTA V is like game on the crossroads, because its developers didn't really have an idea what they should make this time. Every single feature is broken in one way or another and the game itself isn't focused on anything. It seems for me like R* tried to please everyone, ending with terrible atrocity begging to be killed. To be honest the truth is even worse, because R* didn't want to please anybody, but the publisher's wallet. That's why everything is so terribly casualized, shallow and empty. That's why we got overdone, yet boring MP, where every single decision was dictated by income and that's why single player campaign is so half-assed.

 

There are some good points, but to be honest, they became terribly boring for almost a year. For how long can you look at the sunsets listening to the music (terribly inconsistent, but there are some really cool songs)? I won't even count how many times I was thinking "wow, this is great" only to want to rip the disc to shreds a few minutes later. How many times I was turning it on to leave the game ten minutes later.

 

As many people said before me, if the game would have the different title and would be made by someone else, it would be great game praised by almost everyone, but since it's game made by company that was giving us much better titles it deserves nothing more than critique and slap on the hands with a shovel.

I don't get how people can be so rash and brutal in their criticisms sometimes...

 

Maybe I'm feeling all melancholy because I just read a few really rough reviews for Rockstar Games (by ex employees), but at the end of the day, I think a lot of the sh*t people say on both GTAForums in the V section, and other forums as well, is just way too much.

 

I'm not looking to suck some Rockstar dick here or anything, but I'd simply like to remind everyone that a lot of effort went into this game. People calling it a cash grab, a rushed job, unfinished, broken. I'm sorry, how can you say that? Really, how can you?

 

The game is a behemoth, yes. I'm not saying it's good ONLY because money was thrown at it and the latest tech was in its favor. But for f*cks sakes, you had an army of people working on this thing, detailing every single tiny bit of it. Paying so much care and attention to everything surrounding it. All of these moving parts.

 

We've seen how a game such as that can go wrong. Assassin's Creed III had a TON of moving parts, and they did NOT play well together. Even though I quite liked the game, it was clunky as all sh*t when it comes to the various, messy systems it decided to throw at the player.

 

Go play some absolutely insulting, disgraceful, unbelievably disjointed piece of sh*t games like "Ride to Hell". Then you come right back and tell me that V is broken and unfinished.

 

I understand criticism is good, and I understand that gargantuan games such as GTA can never be truly perfect. But some of the toxic sh*t people aim at the DEVELOPERS, nevermind the people behind the actual development teams forcing them to go through all kinds of sh*t to make individual parts of this game possible, is just awful.

 

If you could, for at least half a minute or two, stand back and realize just how far this series has come, before you spit right in its f*cking face and call it a disgrace to its name, I would greatly appreciate it. And I'm sure a lot of emotionally abused Rockstar developers would too.

 

 

inb4: "Rockstar developers aren't children. They went into this job knowing full well of the consequences". Yeah. EVERYONE goes into video game development expecting emotional and mental scars from management, right? f*ck no.

That means every single feature in the game has some fault that makes it not so great to use. If you want further explanation, give me a feature and I will tell you what is wrong with it.

 

R* wanted to please people who didn't like IV making game worse than SA or every other part? That makes no sense at all, because from what I can see on this forums SA fans are as disappointed as IV fans. So who was the real target, except kids with stuffed parents' wallets?
