looking terrible on XBOX360

i've searched many threads about the problem, but only found related to PC. but i am playing the first time on my XBOX360 and i am so surprised to see its quality being so terrible. no detail at all, everything ( cars, buildings... ) are all like smudged, and the shadows are just fine dots instead soft.

is it the way this game is on XBOX360, or there is some kind of setting i've missed or screwed up anywhere? been playing other games and they're all fine.

it is very hard to play it while everything seems so blurry and low res.

thanks for helping.

Can you post screenshots of the problem you are facing? We can research the problem more properly then.

i don't have any screen shot. but it is like everything being blurry with no details ( even objects close by ), and the shadow is not the usual smooth look but with fine dots. or the overall look is like some kind of fine art ( oil paint or water color? )

The game itself is like that, there's nothing you can do about it, it's not the platform's fault either.

took a couple photos, the actual problem is not as bad. but giving an idea what i was talking about. but i may have problem posting them. it will not allow me to use the "image extension"

- instead of being smooth, the shadows are shown with fine dots.

- the details of the tail light of the car on the right hand side.

the shadow is not smooth, and the tail light of the car on the upper right has no detail at all. that's about all the trouble in general i've tried to describe.

so is it the nature of this game? i've found it very hard to continue playing with those problem. night is better, but day with bright light really annoys.

yes. that's the "complete edition" bought a while ago, new, and i finally got a chance to play it.

those are photos taken from the TV screen, so their quality is worse than actual screen capture directly from TV.

I know what you mean. I've been playing GTA IV for 4 years on a very old TV, the game looked very fine. Then I've bought a brand new LED tv, and since then, my GTA IV looks like sh*t.

I don't have this problem with EFLC.

but i've searched the web and it seems like many have complained about the graphics being blurry and low res.

sorry about that, i didn't know what happened when it didn't respond after i hit "post" and i hit a few times.

i've just loaded one of the Episodes from the other disc and its graphics turned out to be much better than the main game, not as terrible. so again, expected? or the disc of the main game is defective?

I vote for defective. You can tell the shop owner to replace your GTA IV disc and get another one to try. If possible.

bought it from amazon, but it was 3 years ago. no way for an exchange. and rockstars, too could do anything but $20 for replacement.

so again, that kind of "dissolved" and blurry looking is not right, correct?

well, tried on another console, same. so i bought another game, same result!

time and money wasted :(

And last thing.. did you apply patches or not? I think XLIVE offers for patches for GTA IV.

yes. i uninstalled the game a few times already, and every time when i installed again i did the update. well, i guess i just could not accept the fact that it did indeed look terrible ( i've found more similar feedback about that from some other forums ) and kept hoping for solution.

now i just give up looking for fix and play it with as many "night" only as possible, the daytime graphics is just too terrible.

thanks again for helping.

No it isn't. He owns a Complete Edition of GTA IV. So, his EFLC does not have these problems.

i really have no clue, especially watching some xbox 360 gameplay on Youtube with better graphics.

anyway, right now i just have to bear with it by adjusting the ingame diaplay with "brightness" and "contrast" very low, which helps quite a bit during the day time game play.

shouldn't be the problem from the TV, not only as KBG mentioned that the "epidsodes" look much more normal and eye pleaseing without those terrible "dithering" etc. things, all other games have no issue.

thanks again guys!
