Approaching Random Players

In your opinion, or if you have personal experience, what is the best way to approach players without getting a facefull of buckshot or rifled to death?

I have tried countless times tonight to no avail to fill a Barracks and take it to LS International Airport, and every time I pull up to some random, they gun me down, and potentially whoever I got so far. Whatever passengers I may have had will be shifted over to fighting the assailant, and it will ruin the whole purpose of picking people up.

I've tried approaching slowly and honking my horn in rapid succession to some success. Always managed to get shot or stickied afterwards by the next stop, however.

I don't like using the microphone, but I understand that that can help immensly.

The only thing you can really do is pull up, honk your horn, and just have your finger on the R2 ready to gtfo if he turns hostile. It'd be good to have a car with a bullet proof back.

As for myself, i.....just don't try. I gave up on that in October mate.

At this moment in time you're not going to have any luck. Maybe in the future the game base might mature a little and be more open to just hanging out with strangers.

I mean, even if you're in a session with a load of friends and everyone's got their mics on, you still often get that one guy who stickies the vehicle everyone's in. So not much chance with strangers in free roam.

I likethe ones above gave up...but your technique js probably a good one. If you have some time i park arouhnd the cirner and send a text to the player saying 'hi'...sometimes its helpful sometimes it makes them want to kill you more

Death Magnetic

I think next gen will be better because NOBODY'S parents are going to buy them a brand new console with gta 5

Should cut down on the squeaking kids that need to be molested with a wooden spoon

Ah, those were the days when you could pull up and honk your horn as a sign if friendship., everyone had a slow ass car and pretty much everyone could be friendly. I might have a go at that again.

Passive mode might help. There's no way to say," I don't want any beef." like walking up to someone while in PM.

Dafuq am I saying lol. Players would just try to run you over lol.

The only real way is to honk your horn in quick succession or if you care enough to send a message.

But I also gave up on it a long time ago

I don't think it's going to happen. A car full of people is just too tempting for people who care about K/D ratio.

You can't stop next to someone to be friendly just as you don't go against someone with a shutgun while you're unarmed. Simple as that. Long time gone, people will shoot you because they got shot all the time. It's the standard that this game has 'teached' to players.

This. I've been burned too many times thinking a player was friendly only for them to gun me down (even players I've added to my friends list). Now I shoot first and don't ask questions.

My advice would be to befriend players who you've done missions/activities with and then invite them to Invite Only sessions with the intent to do fun things that do not involve killing each other.

I don't pick up hitch hikers... I only drive with friends and even then my car is still set to passengers only.

Hail Sithis

I usually drive up to them slowly and honk a few times. Show them that I'm not there to kill them, even better if I'm flying around in my Frogger or Maverick, then they know that I can't shoot at them or anything. Sometimes I might text the person, if they're hiding in their apartment and I want them to come out, I'd be like "want a ride? :) <3"

Then I blow them the f*ck up with the sticky bombs I placed all over my ride and run away when I respawn

I learned if you leave someone alive that you will end up dead. So I usually shoot 1st ask later.. kinda like the motto for American cops.. from what I hear it works wonders...

a mic is key. if it sounds you're doing something fun others will ask to join.

if we exchanged messages before it's a good indication of people's intentions.

typing a text shows effort to gain trust, trolls and hostiles are not that patient.

even though if i'm being non hostile with a random i'm always watching my back and showing him i'll give him no chance whatsoever.

same for approaching lower levels, ill approach you always making you face my bullet proof back.

shoot first or switch to explosives i dare you...

I just got into online recenlty so still wet behind the ears. If in the city I won't bother trying to befriend anyone however if I come across a random alone chilling in the sticks I'll send a friendly text from a safe distance. I'm waiting for a gaming mic to be delivered as this is the easiest way to communicate.

My own rules are if someone is following my every move on foot, I'll take cover and shoot them without questions. If they want to chase me while driving they best be prepared for a long ass chase ending a sneaky ambush. The hunter becomes the hunted haha.

I have seen players follow me only to change their icon to a white flag, but I still can't trust their intentions so i just bail. If they are friendly they can always send a quick text.

I just can't trust anyone or any situation online which is the way I have lived my life for years.

I never approach them, they usually approach me. I was at ammu-nation near the car wash and gas station and some level 15 got into my Sandking for supposedly a getaway. I managed to lose them for him on the always trusty underground tunnels.

OMG A PUPPY

Usually I try to approach players slowly with nothing, and simply salute them :) 3/4 of the time it actually works! On a few other occasions, ive even been approached by tanks a couple times and saluted...surprisingly they drive away :p

One time I joined a friends session and one of their friends shot me. So I'm just kinda like oh okay, whatever. I tried to go near them again, this time saluting. He shot me again. So then I go passive, and heads towards him while saluting. This assh*le goes and gets the nearest car.......

Anyway, back to the topic at hand... the best way to approach random players is to not approach random players. Unless you're a risk taker and like highly dangerous situations

I don't play with a mic, makes it hard I guess to know what someone is thinking or why they want me, a random player to jump into their car one time I tried it didn't turn out well. Usually I just keep walking. Problem is I've had people follow me and keep honking and if I keep ignoring them then they try to run me over so now I never leave the house unarmed and I'll admit that if you keep after me after I start walking I usually start shooting.

Text message sounds like a good idea to me if you're really not looking to be a jerk.

I think the unarmed salute is the most universally recognised gesture of friendship, I personally honour this tradition (with my gun wheel set to auto-shotgun and ready to quick draw).

But Los Santos is so rife with unhinged bloodlusting maniacs, even a saluter can suddenly decide to try and kill you. This being one of the ultimate GTA sins and I am the hand of GTA god's retribution if it happens.

Depends on how you approach. If you drive fast into them they wouldn't welcome you well. I always wait them to see what they are going to act in case I've already ready with my stick bomb. :)

For me its real simple, I watch the mini map constantly while in free roam, if someone approaches me, I'm already armed and I'll shoot first and ask questions later. I really hate having this type of attitude all the time, but I've been gunned down or run over too many times for being nice. Now I just take the guess work out of it. If a player text me afterwards and ask me why did I kill them, I'll apologize and tell them the reason. There's several people on my friends list that I've gotten into skirmishes with because they pulled up on me with good intentions.

I don't approach randoms anymore. I pretty much ignore any friend request or apartment invites/folk buzzing my door. Overall, it's too much hassle to make new friends and poor showmanship.

Even the clans I'm a part of aren't social.

Recently, a new 'friend' played missions and survival. He originally sent a text asking to play rooftop rumble and friend requested me. After 3 or 4 jobs he wasted me with a minigun and hid in his apartment before quitting the session.

I dont speak horn honk so Im never sure if they mean get in and lets go cruise or get in so I can kill you with a grenade while driving. Auto Shotty, just because I learned the hard way a long time ago. Join a crew if you want to make friends, or get a mike or at least text them before just rolling up on someone.
