Hello everyone, I'm Jaddxx and I have quite an question for this particular laptop I want!

So, I'm not a professional on these specs and my parents don't want me to buy a PC, so that's out of question but I want to use this laptop for gaming and schoolwork but I don't know the specs much! :)

X550L specs:

  • Processor: Intel Core i5-4500U (4th Generation)
  • RAM: 6 GB
  • HDD: 1 TB
  • Screen: 15.6 Inch
  • Graphics: 2 GB Nvidia-GT745M
  • Others: 802.11b/g/n, Webcamera
  • Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8

I gave limited info because this is what the site(where the laptop I want to buy is at) gives. Also notice the mistake in the CPU which is supposed to be either i7 4500U or the i5 4200U. Not sure if the GPU is a GDDR5 or DDR3 nor which is better.

Help would be much appreciated! :)

Intel CPU with a U suffix mostly indicated it's a low voltage CPU. For them to achieve that, the CPU is clocked at the slowest speed.

For a gaming laptop, find one with a better CPU. Also laptop CPUs are not the same as their desktop parts.

The desktop version of Core i5 and Core i7 are quad cores, Core i7 has HT, which make is have 8 threads

Mobile ones, both of them are dual cores, also with HT, so they have 4 threads.

There are mobile Core i7 that are quad core with HT, and that is also 8 threads, but you'll have to look at the specs of that laptop to find out if the Core i7 is a quad core or a dual core.

Desktop: Core i5 is quad core and no HT = 4 Cores/4 Threads

Core i7 is quad core with HT = 4 Cores/8 Threads

Laptop: Core i5 and Core i7 both are dual cores with HT = 2 Cores/4 Threads

Core i7Q is quad core with HT = 4 Cores/8 Threads

Here is a comparison between the 2 CPUs listed for that laptop and the ones I've picked as a example.

As for graphics, here is a link with some info and shows you some of the games is capable of playing

Well, I think the specific laptop I chose is a dual-core though. And I kind of like this particular laptop since I'm not going the 'hardcore gamer' type. But any suggestions would be kindly appreciated!

I also notice the site has another typo in it, the card is technically a GT740M based on the X550L line of laptops. My particular model would be this.
