Military Crisis in Ukraine

India isn't straight up saying that "Crimea belongs to Russia now, so say we" as you seem to be implying. They're just not picking sides and acknowledging both sides as having "legitimate concerns" which is more or less a cop-out.

They are supporting Russia while avoiding stock uncertainty. Thats total support in political terms.

Its the same thing China did, they want to support Russia even more but have people of their own whod like to split off so they need to avoid a future contradiction in policy IE not having the UN intervene on their sovereign territory.

No, no they are not. Purely because of the ramifications of supporting the Russian intervention in Crimea in relation to the domestic conflict in India involving Maoist rebels that's been dragging on for 50 odd years. With Burma, China and Pakistan providing material support for the insurgency plus groups in Nepal and the Philippines, the precedent set by the annexation of Crimea could be applied in this case if one party were to intervene more directly- either in favour of the rebel movement or as an aggressive action by a neighbour such as the Philippines that has seen the conflict spill over into domestic violence.

Why was he banned?

Chances are, he was a PBM. The majority of the people that support Russia in this topic seem to be PBMs. And after getting found out, they get murdered by the ban hammer.

I've banned two of his accounts earlier as well. We really need some better tools for working with PBMs.

It's the same thing politically, though. I don't know what's going on with Indian internal politics, but I really hope it's just a way to show US that they are upset with some recent events, and not a move to align with Russian block. In principle, the Russian - Chinese - Indian alliance can be extremely powerful, but I don't think China is going to go all in. Without that, their strategy is all wrong for their economic and political status. I can understand why Russia is escalating things they shouldn't, but there is no reason for India to enter that suicide pact.

I know that within India there's a lot of pro-Russian sentiment due to historic support from Russia, but that's not necessarily coupled with anti-Western sentiment so we can't really form conclusions about where their loyalty lies.

Just some updates on Russian troop movements.

Russian Military exercises in Transdniestria (Moldova). (That's following this bit of news. So maybe there is something to it.)

And there are some new exercises in Siberia, but that's likely just a show of force.

Russia's Western border and Crimea still hold considerable number of Russian troops as before. No serious changes there.

No. If you are worried, don't be. There won't even be a small skirmish.

Well, if you are paying attention, you'd notice that they have confirmed twice he was a PBM (previously banned member). This is a ban-able offence in it and of itself; it is not permitted to circumvent a ban. So he broke the rules there.

Moreover, this is not a democracy. No where in this thread have anyone argued that GTAForums is better than Putin's Russia.

Guess it isn't.

An why was he banned first time?

An why was he banned first time?

Spamming, homophobic slurs, racial slurs, political trolling, a few minor infractions that he has been warned about, and ultimately attacking moderators. He has been warned by Moonshield, Dutchy, Kirsty, sivi, and myself, and eventually, our patience grew thin. The ban was administered back in December. He has created multiple accounts since then to continue along the same lines in here and in the GTAO section.

But enough derailing of the thread. In general, you should ask these sort of questions via PM. I'm only replying to this in thread because question of objectivity has been raised.

I've not even been particularly active in this thread.

As for the question of Indian support for Russia, their public statements have already been discussed- talk of "legitimate interests" has certainly been interpreted by many people as overt support. But in practical terms, what is India doing to support Russia? Absolutely nothing. You've got to look at statements like this in their strategic context- Russia supplies over 70% of India's military materiel and they are currently engaged in a couple of extremely costly joint projects- converting the PAK FA 5th generation fighter for Indian use, the Brahmos II hypersonic cruise missile, upgrades of existing MiG-29 airframes and avionics, nuclear submarine technology, extreme-range AAMs for counter-AWACS duty...I'd argue a guarded and opaque statement was probably the best way of maintaining positive relations with both sides and certainly has no practical significance.

There's also the fiasco with Devyani Khobragade souring relations between India and the US. Could be this is a very public way to punish the US for refusing to apologise for their behaviour then.

That's not going to be possible. It might be that Russia stops for now, but their course is pretty much set. It's like hoping that Germany would have stopped at Czechoslovakia.

Besides, even the most conservative of NATO analysts say that if (and more likely when) Russia enters Ukraine, they will capture Eastern and Southern Regions, and then move from Odessa Region of Ukraine straight into the Trans-Dniester Region of Moldova. So that's two nations in the cross hairs right off the bat, and Baltic states are very likely to be added to the list.

The sooner Western politicians are going to stop hoping that these troubles will fall on someone else's term, the better it will be for everyone in Europe.

You're scaring me. If WW3 starts it basically means a nuclear exchange. I don't undertsand why Russia would want to bring about a nuclear holocaust and commit suicide over small parcels of land in eastern Europe though. So hopefully it wont happen.

War doesn't mean nukes though. I really doubt the Russians would use nukes, unless Moscow was in danger.

These Hitler Putin comparisons are really misplaced and ridiculous.

Russia taking over Crimea is more like Hitler taking over Austria (or maybe Sudetenland), then it is like Hitler taking over Czechoslovakia. But then again Putin is nothing like Hitler, so the comparison is completely misplaced and an insult to holocaust victims.

Some interesting things:
