Military Crisis in Ukraine

Recommended Posts

40 countries vs the biggest continent in the world. Russia does not need many allies. If we went to russia, they would f*cking own us on ground. same way the afghans do, and continue to. It took years to train our soldiers how to fight over there, and it still does not always end in our favor.

Yeah it was a hypothetical scenario. There would be no winners in NATO vs Russia, as nukes would be used without a question.

No they wouldn't.

I wasn't talking about the current Ukraine situation, but a full Nato/Russia war. Nato would over power Russia conventionally, then do you expect them to surrender and watch Nato as they march towards Moscow?

But how many of those countries would actually participate and how many would just send token batallion?

If a NATO member state gets attacked, it is considered an attack against all members and the response is proportionate to the severity and scale of attack.

The use of nukes would result in such a retaliatory effect, that it would be the ends of either country(ies), meaning their economy, livelihood and existence, political, militarily and civilization would be over.

Don't worry about that for awhile.. unless a small group or terrorist decides to do so.. but even then, countries don't launch WMD's in such situations.

like GB helping US in iraq... they swore up and down that they were all over the place... Only place I saw them was safe zones and well established FOB's.

NATO would easily when in a conventional war against Russia. The situation in Afghanistan is an insurgency which is completely different.

NATO would invade Russia. (at least the wouldn't go for Moscow) NATO has no reason to. They would only seek to drive Russia out of any country they are currently occupying.

NATO would not go after Moscow. They would drive Russia out of NATO territory, back to their own borders, and make peace from there.

I can agree to that.

Don't get me wrong, I know UK and other allies had their part.. but not a majority like the US. Prior to my acceptance into MARSOC and Reserve 0317, I've spent 2 tours and the only UK men I've met was in FOB's and GZ's. However, once I was placed into 3/2/4th, I was bunked with a few internationals.. UK, Canuck, EURO and even German.. but even then, they were scarce. Other countries had a role but as far as huge force, there was none. They played a bigger role behind the lines but even then, it was minimal.

I'm not trying to gloat or oorah the US.. just saying. There's so much that's happened and goes on that the civilians don't have a clue of other than what the media portrays. I find myself in arguments weekly or even daily about things of such nature.. anymore, I just ignore it.

anyways.. if this conflict is going to happen, it's going to happen, no matter how much protest or contest.. they'll do it either way.

And there would be no insurgency because NATO has no reason to occupy and part of Russia.

The guys I've spoken to seem to say the same thing... one guy who was a 0317 who's going to be a SI when I report to OCS next summer said that every ISAF partner other than the Brits were useless.

It would never come to that though... we aren't talking about hypothetically invading Russia. Fact is US forces would pulverize Russian forces in a conventional war.

Russian markets nosedive as Ukraine panic takes hold

By Stuart Williams

Moscow (AFP) - Investors in Russia reacted with panic Monday to the potentially disastrous economic consequences of Russian military intervention in Ukraine, with Moscow stock markets crashing up to 12 percent and the ruble plunging to historic lows against the dollar and euro.

In an emergency move to limit the losses for the ruble amid what risks becoming at least Russia's worst economic crisis since 2009, Russia's central bank hiked its main interest rate by 150 basis points.

President Vladimir Putin on Saturday won approval from Russia's upper house of parliament to send troops into Ukraine due to the stand-off in Crimea following the ousting of pro-Moscow president Viktor Yanukovych.

But economists warned the move risks creating a litany of further troubles for the Russian economy, which is already battling chronically slow growth.

In comments that further rattled investors' nerves, US Secretary of State John Kerry warned Putin that Moscow could lose the right to host the G8 this year in Sochi and could even be expelled from the group of top nations itself.

Military intervention would drain further resources from a Russian budget already stretched by costs like the Sochi Olympics, limit Russia's economic ties with the West and force Russian companies into huge write-offs in Ukraine....................

That's exactly why I believe Russia's for real.

Why would you intentionally completely f*ck up your economy when you know nothing's gonna happen?

I don't like this one bit.

Even if the ultimatum was not real, Ukraine risked their relationship with Russia even more. They could consider it a threat. Everything is extremely unpredictable, it's only a matter of seeing where this goes. So far, this looks like it could get somewhat serious, apparently G8 wants to expel Russia out of it.

But to be honest, I don't think Russia would be stupid enough to attack a NATO country.

Thankfully for Russia, Ukraine's not part of NATO.

Also, Germany described Putin as basically crazy when they talked, so who knows what he would do.

They're not a part of it but they have a pretty close relationship with it, we'll see. >15 minutes to see what actually happens, or doesn't.

NATO won't do sh*t if Ukraine gets invaded. Like I said, they're not a part of it, so no reason to start WW3 over it.

However, if Russia goes into Poland...

T minus 9 minutes, no reports of any surrendering yet. Meaning Russia will have to respond in some way or another.

Now we wait to see if the Ultimatum was bullsh*t or not.

4 minutes left.

EDIT: it's been 5 minutes since the deadline ended, nothing yet.

I doubt we'll see anything come of this rumored ultimatum. If anything it was Russia pumping it's chest at Ukraine.

Even if Russia is serious about ultimatum, they aren't going to attack on the hour. Do you want a prepared enemy or an off-guard one? We still have some time until it's clear what's going on with that.

Yeah. My guess is the ultimatum was just a bunch of BS, hoping Ukraine may fire the first bullet.

Or option 2, the ultimatum was serious and they'll attack just when Ukraine thinks they wont.
