Piggsy pls
TBH this idea sounds better as a DLC for GTA V, rather than dedicating a whole new game to it.
ObsydianRaven
I think they should make another GTA set in the mid 90s. But I think it should be set more like in late 1994ish. That's where the griminess started. Because honestly, GTA SA had a sporadic storyline. That game was supposed to focus on urban gang life, but it completely digressed from that topic. I say that we just write up ideas and just go to R* company to implement them just to make sure they don't leave out anything. Why wait when we could just go over there and do it? How come that the 'griminess' started in the late 1994ish? If anything, that's when it ended. The crack epidemic toned down and the economy was improving, in consequence, crime rates dropped and cities began to improve. Actually, the griminess continued through 1995 and up until late 1996. Even the hip hop back then had rappers making grimey rap songs, such as Method Man, ODB, Big L, Mobb Deep, and Onyx. So late 1994 would be the perfect setting for the game. Culturewise, late 1994 would be good because you also have the death of Grunge with Kurt Cobain's suicide. Blennerville
They are showing 'The 90's' on discovery at the moment. Its a 6 part series, they did the 80's last year. Rodney King/the LA riots, the internet, reality tv and other stuff was on the first episode.
GTA19somethin
It seems that the only people who disagree with this topic were either too young to experience the full 90s culture or weren't even born when the 90s were happening. Those who grew up to witness the 90s like me would say otherwise. Blennerville
don ovdi' island
I'm honestly not sure what there was for crime in the 90's besides gangbanging and mafia stuff, both of which we've seen in both 90's set GTA games. Maybe a bunch of ex-Soviets immigrating to America and joining a Russian mob, but then again, that falls under "mafia stuff" I got it, guys. I got it!What about a group of adrenaline junkie surfers who assault banks for fun and try to live on the edge?I think that nobody has thought of it yet. Point break influenced GTA FTW! In the south, it's been gritty since the 80's and didnt stop in 1996. If you want gritty, do a Louisiana based GTA. Corrupt politicians, Killer cops, and the tearing down of many large projects in new orleans resulted in a war zone, 1994 was the peak when New Orleans was the murder capital of the world, all the way until.. wait.. that still happens. (But was still very prominant around Y2K) And as far as gritty rap that's been around since the 80's. Eazy E is a prime example & Big L had just came onto the scene (didnt he only have one album?) in the late 90's. Mobb deep's The Infamous didnt come out until 1995, and before that they only had one album. (Juvenile Hell- 1993) Eddie_INTV

Horrorcore, you're talking about Lord Infamous (RIP) and Triple Six Mafia right? They played a huge part in the horror core scene, tho it's said that they were influenced by the Geto Boys, Dj Paul & Lord Infamous helped pioneer a distinct horror core sound in the early 90's, sampling a lot of new orleans classics such as the "Triggaman" sample, heard in many of their early work and still a prominent part of new orleans bounce culture. Paul723
I think having a GTA game set in the mid 90s would be kick ass. The only people who would disagree are obviously people who were born much later and didn't actually get to experience the 90s when they were going on. wiizardii
There is a thread called wich characters should have their own game: I said phil bell Simply because a back story on him would be amazing. Imagine, a GTA set in 1993 with Phil Bell as a protagonist working his way up to the top of the family ladder with many issues with the mafia because he has irish in his blood, so he can't be made. Another Mafia themed Spin off like LCS would be awesome with Phil as the protagonist, and Pegorino as a deuteragonist. Claude4Catalina

Not to disrespect your thoughts, but another Mafia theme GTA game is too banal to shift to again. It should be a black east coast gangster style with the gritty, griminess since it's much more cohesive to the mid 90s. Plus we haven't got to see any black gangsters in LC. We're supposed to be high ranking criminals, we're supposed to have the cops doing dirty sh*t for us, not to be their little criminal go-to boy. And LC had black gangsters. Little Jacob (Though he was of Jamaican descent), Dwayne, Playboy, etc Maybe I should've been more specific. I meant black GANGS in LC, because we haven't seen any gangs that consists on all blacks. And if we do see another mafia game, it would set much earlier than the 90s, or at least 1990 since that year, in juxtaposition to the other years of the 90s, is far more of an 80s culture year. Then again, 1991 and 1992 had some 80s holdovers as well, but those two years were mostly leaned much closer to the 90s culture. GTA-Biker
I would like some VC/VCS-like game(I would like to see HD game set in Vice City in the 80s again)or maybe some biker-themed game set in the 70s(yeah,I know there was TLAD,but it had less than 50 mission even with side missions included and was set in modern times,I´m more interested in old school stuff) Eddie_INTV

GTA-Biker
I think maybe some game set in the 90s midwest city based on Chicago and/or Detroit could work.I would prefer a game set in the past to modern games(after GTA 4,EFLC and 5,I would like something different, and there never was HD GTA game set in the past). However,as I already said on a post before,I would like an 80s or maybe even a 70s setting more. PowerKracker
It'd be interesting as some others have suggested to see a DLC for GTA V in the 90s, as a throwback to SA's setting. Would be an interesting spin, we've never seen a single rendition of a GTA location in two significantly different time periods before.
theworldfamous
Neh...not another bone thugz n da hood story. I'm sure they would it make it work without being cheesy, but it's just been there done that. I don't find the motivations of a gangbanger all that interesting. I do kinda miss the period settings of the 3d era, but I'm thinking more of VC than SA. I'm hoping for LA Noire 2. The period and setting were great, just recycle it but make it more like GTA and the protagonist a private detective....go hard on the film noir clichés. A story about dirty cops in the early 70s. Muscle cars, coke, mobsters in bad suits, blaxploitation! Just redo vice city. Miami, 80s, build a cocaine and porn empire and drive gold coloured Porsches on the beach! Who said it had to rely on gangbanging? I mean have the game set in the mid 90s (1994 or 1995) based on the East-West rivalry, and the west coast gang don't have to be gangbangers. Just hardcore street gangsters from each coast going at it. Have that grimy vibe to it, just like how it was in the 90s. After all, we didn't have east coast black gangsters in the previous GTA games. Edited September 17, 2014 by GTA19somethin

ObsydianRaven
Maybe we could see 1990 as the setting for a GTA game. 1990 was culturally part of the 80's with some bit of early 90's culture getting started, and plus the Crack Epidemic was at it's peak around this time. You could say that it was an epilogue of the 80's. Edited September 18, 2014 by ObsydianRaven

GrandMaster Smith
I think we'd be better off going into the 60-70's. Much more interesting stories and plots to be told; Vietnam, the hippies, black panther, MLK, moon landing and space race, JFK, beatle mania ect. I'd much rather play a beyond ordinary hippy individual caught up in a drug deal gone wrong leading an adventure through the state to get what's his than some just cliche modern day criminal. Definitely focus on one single protag, V's story felt too scattered to properly follow and was tough to connect to a protag that one minute you're playing and the next you're playing against.
