I was browsing the internet for sh*ts and giggles and looked up GTA V on Rockstars pre-order page and when I went to the best buy site and clicked details it showed this.

I know it may only be a place holder but do you guys think it will have one or two disks? I would say two.....but who knows

Not many people have bluray disc drive, placeholder IMO.

Or maybe they will have BluRay version and then DVD version? IMO.

Edit: What is with quote?

I cant even remember the last time i bought a PC game on Disc, Steam is king.

If it is one one disc, i can see a HQ Texture DLC Pack with various other graphical patches

If it'll be bounded with steam why would it need more? I mean almost nobody install steam games from a disc, since even if you try it will start downloading game instead of installing from a disc. To install from a disc you have to use windows command line...

Wut? You lauch the installation from the DVD, and it'll install the files through Steam using the DVD.

I never had to use any command line..

Hehe, that is something I didn't expect to see on this forum.

I can barely remember the last time I installed a game from a CD, I think it was NFS Underground 2

Edit: If it's a DVD, it's likely a partial install and the rest will be completed through Steam (Which in any case, you'll have to go online to activate the game)

Well on steam I have only 2 games with physical discs and in both cases they started downloading instead of installing from DVD.

GTA 5 on 1 disc? Obviously a place holder. If Vice City had 2 discs then GTA V will have 2 discs or more... unless they fancy compressing files and using double sided, doubled layered discs.

Placeholder, 2 DVD Discs on Xbox 360 already caused lower quality Audio and Video Streams. Audio and Video required their own disc alone.

All the blue ray owners through PS3 still out number the pure Blue Ray owners I bet lol. Those things are still superexpensive.

Anyway, 1 disc could be double sided DVD or whatever they call it.

And they are not as needed as they used to be. My friend has PC without any optic drive.

That's because there's no need to have a blu ray drive in a PC unless you have a massive collection of blu ray discs. TBH, you don't really need an optical drive in a PC anyway as most companies don't use blu ray discs for their programs/games and then it's pointless because it's easier to download it by your personal means. Be it through their website, Amazon, steam, origin, TPB, ect...

I hope they do put it out on a blu-ray disc. I am so f*cking fed up with the Xbox 360 holding back game content due to it's storage limitations compared to the PS3. We should be lightyears past f*cking 7GB discs now.

If you don't have a blu-ray disc drive, download the game. If you don't have internet, then playing GTA V on PC is the least of your life concerns.

CPU: i7 3770k 4.6Ghz 1.24v CPU Cooler: Corsair H100 Push/Pull GPU: EVGA GTX 780 Mobo: ASRock z77 Extreme4 RAM: G-Skill Ripjaws 16GB DDR3 1600Mhz PSU: BFG Tech EX-1200W Case: Coolermaster HAF X O/S: Windows 8.1 Pro x64 SSD: Samsung 830 Series 256GB

I fail to see why a company would hold content back because of a storage limit on a disc.

GTA 5 will be released on Blu Ray discs for consoles but not PC. It's a waste of money making millions of copies using Blu Ray discs on PC because most people buy their games digitally and out of the ones that don't, they buy DVDs. Why? DVD drives are much more cheaper than blu ray drives and most companies release their content on DVDs.

Trust me, DVDs wont die any time soon. When Windows uses blu ray discs for 2 full versions is when DVDs start to die off. Besides, why release a game that uses Blu Ray discs if you can release it using DVDs which are a lot cheaper for everyone. Just compare the prices of physical games. If you go on Amazon and look at a game and compare the prices of a game on CG and PC the PC version (in the UK) is £10 cheaper and the only difference is the type of disc. Then again, I don't see why you would buy a physical copy of a game for PC... you know... with services like Steam around.

Lol last time i bought a game on a disc was like 8 years ago. Steam or online buys only. Disc freaks need to be greenier.

If it's not a placeholder, they may be going the install partially then download the rest from Steam route or something. But honestly I think Rockstar is smarter than that, so probably a placeholder, unless the game is so big they don't want to make like 5 DVD's per box, though they did with Max Payne 3, 4 discs.

Don't get me wrong but the interest in this pointless thread shows how bored all the people waiting for information on GTA V are right now.

It would be cool if it was a Blu-ray disc, but rarely anyone has one of those drives. I'm in the minority that has a reader/writer BD drive. It is sweet, but there's little market in it right now. The best it can do is BIG archival function, like if you wanted to hold about 22GBs of stuff, a Blu-ray disc will easily hold all of that. Since I download too much, it comes in handy.

Seems way too early for us to have any real info on how many disks the game will fit onto. Most likely just a placeholder.

Are there any statistics that show how many games are bought digitaly in relation to physically on PC? Just curious.

Steam is good, but I still prefer to have physical disc, so that I can install it right away instead of waiting to download. Also some have bandwidth caps that means it's not possible to download it, if the game exceeds their bandwitdh limit.

Currently the highest capacity disc available is the quad layer Blu-Ray (BDXL) at 128GB. Then they're going to come out with a 200 and even a 300GB version.

Not to forget you can get physical discs 1-2 days earlier from some local shops.

I'll buy it at a store in DVD format and I'm expecting 3 to 4 DVD's minimum, I'll be very surprised if it's 2 DVD's only, unless they use a compression method like "KGB" I'm not seeing how they'll pull it out.
