Such a shame, I heard about this on the radio when my dad was driving home from Scotland today.

At the beginning of each model year, the editorial staff at Kelley Blue Book takes a look at the latest crop of redesigned vehicles and selects one as that year's Best Redesigned Vehicle. Vehicle models that qualify for consideration for this honor include all those nameplates that were available prior to 2007 but have been updated with all-new exterior and interior designs. Most frequently these redesigns also include a newly engineered body structure and a new or significantly revised engines and transmissions.

After identifying those vehicles that fit all the qualifying criteria — more than 40 for the 2007 model year — we then narrow the list to 10 on our way to picking the one vehicle we think demonstrates the biggest improvement relative to its predecessor and its competitors. Factoring into our decision are exterior and interior styling, comfort and convenience features, performance/capability, driving dynamics, safety, fuel economy, overall refinement and value. We also take into consideration the market significance of each vehicle, based on measures like unit sales volume and visibility.

After carefully taking into account all those factors, this year the winner of the Kelley Blue Book kbb.com Best Redesigned Vehicle award is the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado.

Chevrolet Silverado

The Silverado impresses immediately with clean, contemporary exterior styling and two equally smart-looking passenger cabin options. In addition to a more traditional pickup interior, the Silverado is available with a plusher "luxury-inspired" interior also found in GM's new full-size SUVs.

Where the 2007 Silverado solidifies its case for Best Redesigned Vehicle, however, is on the road and the trail. Notably improved steering, braking, ride comfort, handling and power delivery combine in a vehicle that's infinitely more satisfying in town and on the highway. Combined with the segment's highest available towing capacity and horsepower, as well as its best available fuel economy, we think Chevy's newest pickup is poised to make quite an impact in this era of tougher and more luxurious trucks.

Here in alphabetical order are the other nine vehicles that made our short list of Best Redesigned Vehicle finalists:

Cadillac Escalade

The Cadillac version of GM's triumvirate of full-size SUVs features all the goodness of its Tahoe and Yukon brothers plus a hefty dose of in-your-face styling and a truckload of luxury features.

Chevrolet Aveo Sedan

A giant leap in refinement coupled with more contemporary styling inside and out provide the all-new Aveo Sedan the ammunition it needs to compete with the Honda Fit, Nissan Versa and Toyota Yaris, all of which are new for 2007.

Chevrolet Tahoe

Based on the same architecture that helped catapult the Silverado pickup to the top of this year's Best Redesigned Vehicle list, the all-new Tahoe has been improved by almost every conceivable measure — and drastically so.

Chrysler Sebring

In a category notorious for safe styling, the Sebring's unique proportions and familial hood strakes add up to a breath of fresh air. Inside, an available 20-gigabyte hard drive provides advanced navigation and music capabilities.

GMC Sierra

While the Chevy takes home top honors in this competition, GMC's version of GM's new pickup is every bit as good as its more popular sibling. The difference? Mostly in market significance, since the Chevy is the bigger seller.

GMC Yukon

With a base model priced similarly to the Chevy Tahoe's and a distinctive Denali model that can approach Cadillac Escalade in luxury and style when fully loaded, the Yukon is GM's most multi-faceted full-size SUV.

Lexus LS 460

Countering the technological salvo lofted by Mercedes-Benz with the new S-Class, the fourth-generation LS features the world's first eight-speed automatic transmission and has the ability to parallel park itself.

Mercedes-Benz S-Class

With futuristic features like stop-and-go cruise control and an infrared night vision system, what's most remarkable about the all-new, ninth-generation S-Class sedan is that it remains the epitome of traditional luxury.

Toyota Camry

The best-selling car in the country is now more visually appealing outside, more luxury-like inside and available for the first time with a gas-electric hybrid powertrain rated to return 40 miles per gallon in the city.

The results are kind of retarded, out of 40+ vehicles 5 of them had to be variations of one car? When you take into account that GM has the Silverado, Tahoe, Suburban, Avalanche, Sierra, Yukon, Yukon XL, Escalade, Escalade EXT and Escalade ESV all redesigned at the same time and all sharing the same platform just a LITTLE bit different on the outside they've already got 25% of redesigned cars for 2007.

The Silverado is ass ugly. The Sierra is slightly better looking than the Silverado. The Tahoe and Suburban look great in the LTZ trim when you've got the stock 20" rims on them. In all other trims they look like they have doughnuts for wheels.

But, going back to the Silverado. It's hard to swallow the looks of it. And the fact that all the Silverado's I see have BIG HUGE F*CKING 20"+ CHROME RIMS ON THEM. I mean, this is Texas, I'm in the country and I have yet to see one lifted Silverado. NOT ONE! Where are they? No where to be found. Probably because when I imagine a Silverado lifted I have to force myself not to vomit.

Oh well.

good lawd, the silverado looks absolutley horrid. the new avalanches look infinitely better.

here we thought GM was broke, but they still find the cash to pay people off, tsk tsk.

The new Silverado/Sierra DOES look horrible. I think it would've looked a lot better if they had stolen the front from the Avalanche/Tahoe/Suburban. The front of the Escalade also looks very nice but the Yukon looks like a mix of the Tahoe and the Escalade. Really crappy.

Thank god they still make the old Silverado. Named as the 'Silverado Classic'. If I don't get a GTI I might just go for a Classic. tounge.gif

Aye, I might be picking up a 93 240sx coupe. The guy didn't leave much info about it, just that it has 176 grand on it, and now the problems have started, needs some body work, etc. I am waiting on pictures from the guy. That aside, he's asking $700 for the thing. Thats cheap enough for me, put on a nice S13 front end and drop in an SR20.

I'm a bigger fan of the fastback versions.... they're so damn sexy.

If you've got enough cash, put an ls1 in it devil.gif

The sr20 should do good enough though.

Damn straight, I'd take it for free.

I'd try and get that problem looked at though, could be bad if you're out and it just cuts out on you. Do you know if it starts back up right away? Then it wouldn't matter too much.

Anyone watch 'Fifth Gear' tonight? They tested the new M3, I have to say, sounded great.

O-62mph - 4.8 seconds, the same as the Audi RS4.

On a more serious note, there is a little bit of FnF in all of us (at least if we were like 15 years old or older when the first movie came out), so we actually picture quite good the japanese car scene. Some are bibles, but they don't post in this section.

180sx's are basically 240sx's. The differences I think are just regular head lights, and they have SR20's stock, am I right? Of course badging is different.

You can't call 240sx's pieces of poo. They're quite decent cars especially from their time. Stock they're a bit underpowered, but holy sh*t do they handle like a dream...

You can call me a bible if you want devil.gif i know a lot about Japanese Imports and im proud of it. KA24DE's are just crap but the chasis is great on a 240 and 180 SR20 definatley makes 180 better. But what i really hate is when my mates (jap car freaks and NFS Underground Players) call a 180SX a 240 its a real pain

Someone mind telling me what the f*ck this is? Or rather, why the f*ck it exists?

Having a car lift in your home garage is a dream for many amateur mechanics, but the cost is painfully prohibitive. (Not only for the lift, but for all the additional concrete work that has to be done, not to mention proper, environmentally-sound drainage.)

The Eastwood Tilt-A-Car is a much cheaper option, although it sacrifices much of the convenience of a lift: you'd have to drain all the fluids before cocking a car up on its side. (If only you had a lift!)

Eastwood claims the Tilt-A-Car will tilt a car or truck up to 6,800 pounds all the way to 90 degrees.  Two rocker assemblies attach to the wheel lugs on one side of the vehicle while a threaded lift screw connects to the lugs of a wheel on the opposite side. A 3/8″ corded or cordless drill then lifts the car up by pulling the ends of the threaded rod inward.

$1,400 plus freight shipping, plus $30 for a bottle of bourbon to steady your nerves. Do you feel lucky, punk?

WTF? man i can imagine all the fluids of the car running out onto the floor of the garage. Even worse it could roll back and flaten you!

It would, but it's cheaper, and takes up less space. A lot of homes can't have lifts due to space restrictions and other problems.

yeah well.. i dunno it maybe cheaper but it aint easier. look imagine how much fluid you have to take out and put back in nervous.gif .
