Kinda hard to tell from the potato quality image, but those look cosmetic to me- the alloy-to-tyre ratio seems very large for proper mud plugging.

Hi, are these rims reinforced rims for offroading, or is it just something cosmetic

Those rims are pretty much for cosmetics. Not much for off roading, especially that fake beadlock. :whuh:

Picked up a 2019 Raptor. It’s okay. Compared to the last gen they are more rattley, the chassis is stiffer, you can really feel the weight distribution change from the lighter motor, the exhaust note is horrendous, the comfort and amenities are on par with the last model. It’s okay. But now that I’ve bonded with my 2018 F-450, I actually enjoy driving it more. It just seems more.... masculine. I’m keeping the Raptor, but it’s not as good overall as I thought it might be. I’ll drop some pics in the other thread sometime.

The Raptor is about the manliest ute/truck we get in mass here in Australia. The F-series isn't all that popular here. It's really quite surprsing that it's not marketed more strongly here as we certainly like our bigger vehicles.

I dont know if any of you guys are interested in the Clio RS, but even if you're not this is worth a watch.

I've followed these guys for a while and they really are masters of the FWD.

Can someone over the age of 30 tell me what Oldsmobile was supposed to be in GM's lineup? Did GM really need two entry level luxury brands or am I misinformed thinking Oldsmobile was luxury because my understanding of GM's hierarchy has always been:

*Chevy - base/cheap

*Pontiac - sporty

*Buick - entry level luxury

*Cadillac - top tier luxury (within the brand)
*Oldsmobile - ???????

im 11 im pretty sure those were family cars like the delta 88 and the custom cruiser

Oldsmobile was more of a middle-class brand.

CRAZY AL WARD

Okay, i've got a question that requires former owners of the same type of car can answer:

I've found a decent enough lookin' 1988 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera 4-door sedan on Kijiji (Canadian version of Craigslist)

for only $400.00 & i have a budget of $705.75 for the purchase of the car & purchase a few things for it (New paint, hubcaps, new battery)

But the Two problems i face atm are:

  • 1: The car is All the way out in Edmonton, Alberta
  • 2: I need the money for a new computer to make gta mods in the future

What i'm asking is: IF i do decide to buy the car, what am i facing in advance in both matinence & restoration wise? And are Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera sedans worth the purchase Or not? I plan to restore it, but i just wanna be sure if it's worth the investment in advance.

Link to the Kijiji ad in the spoiler + pics of the car from the ad (In case you can't see the link):

And a pic of how i plan to make it look (IF i do get the car):

(Technically the Restoration reference pic is of an 87 model, but the 88 i found is the closest to finding one in Canada, according to kijiji)

Anyone good/work with motors?

3.6L V6 has a noticable rattle in higher RPM/Starting up.

Ideas? I think a lifter or tensioner is shot.. I want second opinions though before I do anything to save money+time.

Does anybody have experience with de-rusting brake calipers and rotors? I want to do it on my car but I was wondering if any of you have any advice for doing so.

Unless they're really badly pitted you shouldn't need to do the rotors, a few hard stops from a decent speed will scrub off almost all surface rust.

I'm sorry, I didn't necessarily mean the rotors (although, the rim contains a bit of rust. I'm talking about the part that sticks out and holds the lug nuts. I also want to do the brake calipers.

Cant start my car again for the umpteenth time, this time the positive terminal for my fairly new $300 battery is stripped. I had ended up stripping it the last time my friend and I worked on the car because Im a f*ck up and don't deserve to own a car. I had overtightened the screw turning it the wrong way when I was trying to loosen it and stripped the inside. Real basic stupid f*ck up stuff that no normal person would do. Now I cant get the positive cable to stay plugged in. Also I dont own any tools to work on it.

At this point I'd let the El Camino go for 5000 dollars just to be rid of it. I really hate this f*cking car. And It makes me sad that I hate it. Its a good car. I'm just a terrible car owner who cant afford any maintenance at all.

Unplug battery, use vise-grips to make it tighter? idk.

Never went through that. *knock on wood*

Once you go to wrench tighten it, it slips out of place. I'm gonna cash in the warrantee on this battery

The way I've read to fix it is to pour molten lead into the terminal and then bore out a new hole

Well I guess the warrantee only covers the battery not being able to hold a charge.

My friend and I fiddled around with it yesterday. It actually doesnt look stripped or anything. We changed the positioning of the bolts that hold the cable to the battery, so now the bolt that was holding the car alarm to the other bolt is holding both cables to the battery. Its secure in there and we managed to wrench tighten it, and everything appears to be working again.

My car alarm is still giving me a bypass error whenever I arm it though, which is why I was messing around with the battery in the first place.

EDIT: Turned out my interior light was left on, and since the car alarm is wired to it the alarm thought my door was open

After it died again yesterday while I was out, had my buddy come out and jumpstart it, we took it to Autozone and they tested the alternator,  told me it was only putting out 8.2 volts, and it wont charge the battery anymore. And when I drove it back all of the electrical sh*t was flickering, my headlights were putting out candlelight, and my radio kept turning off.

Its just sitting in my buddy's garage, its not even at my house anymore. I'm never gonna take this peice of sh*t on a road trip because I'm scared its not going to start reliably. In the year Ive owned it, first the battery failed, so I bought a new Yellowtop Optima for it, then the ignition switch failed. So we replaced that. Then the rack inside the steering column snapped in half(absurd!), so we replaced that. Then the starter gave out. So we replaced that! Now I need an alternator! f*ck this sh*t

EDIT 9/6: So the new alternator was installed, works great, but while he was tightening the pulley the mounting bracket snapped in half, so now I need a new one of those. Apparently gotta tear the engine apart in order to get to the other peice of the bracket because its behind and under a bunch of sh*t

EDIT: Update 9/24: So I've paid to have my car towed home and I'm no longer friends with this guy. Moral of the story: Dont have your friends do car repairs for you

Guess-the-car-sounds-655x368.jpg

Quick game of "Guess how i've decided to commit financial suicide this month" anyone?

I ve been after one for a while and a friend decided to sell his, so I snapped it up today. I don't have a decent picture yet for that thread so until then.... A clue or two and see if you know what it is.

When it came out, it was the fastest saloon car on the market.

Go.

I'm assuming we're talking 90s to mid 00s here given your purchasing history. Now for most of that time the Germans were limiting themselves to 250kph/155mph and tuner specials such as Brabus don't count. The one exception to this being the E60 M5 which could be bought delimited, and, if I recall correctly, was touted as the first 200mph production saloon. But this strikes me as a bit obvious.

There is of course the British elephant in the room. The Lotus Carlton. And as much as part of me really wants to imagine you splashing that kind of money on a crusty old Vauxhall then keeping it on the street in the frigid north, the questions of supply versus demand versus king term upkeep make that less likely.

Financial suicide suggests it's something with a reputation for catastrophic unreliability which errs me towards Italian. But I'm not sure the Maserati Quattroporte ever held the "fastest production saloon car" title, though it was the fastest production saloon on the market at the time as the LC had been discontinued. Certainly the M5 would also fall under the "ruinously costly" and "gonads like medicine balls" level of brave-pillery. As would the LC...

If I had to guess, based on the specific wording of your post...circa 2003-2006 Maserati Quattroporte.

Impeccable logic as always Siv, some astute observations there. Final answer is wrong unfortunately as it is not a Maserati.

To the fastest saloon car clue (it's not an M5),

I'll add: there's something special about that V8 engine.
