SEAT is a quite nice car brand. However, it would be better if VW let SEAT do whatever they wanted to... Like making the LEON Cupra and the IBIZA Cupra AWD instead of FWD.

Why would you want an AWD Ibiza? It would be slower and less fun than a front driven one.

Well it kinda was in the US already? Most definitely a rebadge from FR-S to GT86 or something similar.

I will miss the tC though, it was a cool little car.

It is basically a GT86, but with different badges. I hope they don't pull some stupid sh*t like "Toyota FR-S". I love the tC and I really am disappointed that it'll disappear.

Well, sh*t.

I believe the iA is sold as the Toyota Yaris R in Mexico, and the iM is basically an Auris with a bodykit. It seems pretty pointless. tbh

The Scion brand somewhat made sense with the original bB/xB because it was a unique car that didn't really fit into Toyota's lineup, but now all their cars seem very 'normal' and generic.

I think the reason Toyota had trouble attracting 'young' people to the brand in the first place is their price-point. Inevitably for the few young people buying a new car they will be aiming for the cheapest of the cheap, and Toyota isn't that.

Plenty of young people drive Toyotas, but they're usually hand-me-downs, like grandma's Yaris or the family Camry that refuses to break.

UK for the win. I have never driven an automatic.

As regards a 4WD Seat, they should've done that at the same time as the Polo R.

I was wondering what kind of restrictions there are for people that just got the driving licence in your country. I think almost every country has different rules.

In Italy you have those limitations:

For one year:

-Power limitation, must be less than 70 Kw and a power/weight ratio that have to be less than 55 Kw/t (tonne)

For three years:

-100 Km/h on highways instead of 130 Km/h

-90 Km/h on motorways instead of 110 Km/h

-And the BAC at zero (0 g/l)

-Also when doing infraction they'll remove you double points in your driving licence, e.g. speeding is normally three points, but for a young driver it's 6.

UK

For two years:

- You lose your license once you get 6 points (as opposed to 12 points allowed in three years for more experienced drivers)

That's about it really, high insurance premiums usually do the rest (i.e. not letting new drivers have fast cars etc.).

Wow, they actually force you to do a slower speed than everyone else? That sounds pretty dangerous. Hell my van that is limited to just 2mph below the UK dual carriageway speed limit at 68mph feels dangerous at times when trying to keep away from the HGVs and out the way of most other vehicles (as usual traffic flow is around 80mph).

Makes driving it on motorways stressful. The number of times I've had someone going 60 odd in the middle lane only to speed up to match me on my limiter as I pull alongside them is way too much. It's why I actually have a speed limit disc on the back now, so it becomes obvious to anyone around me.

Much nicer when I've got something non-limited.

There are no limits on new drivers in Denmark.

The only limitations here in the United States are for drivers under 18. They cannot have anybody under 18 in the car unless they have somebody in the car who is at least 25 years old. And they cannot drive between 12am and 5am without somebody 25 years old or older in the car. There's no limit on the car's power, though.

So what happens, in the US of course, if you get two speeding tickets within like 3 months?

Yes, they force you, but it's rare to get spotted to be honest, you should be really unlucky, for example comparing travel time between tollbooth. And it's even hard to go 100km/h in the highway, especially when you need to overtake a truck, you want to do it, but do it quickly, so it's easy to go faster than your limit.

Thanks for telling me the restrictions in your country, I'm still practicing to get my driving licence, but I was really interested to know this.

I love the creativity some people put into their custom plates :p

Anybody see the new car ads for the Superbowl? The Audi one is phenomenal.

And then here's probably the cutest one you'll see during the Superbowl, from Subaru

Really not a fan of BMW right now. My brake light switch died about a week ago and the replacement got here today. Theoretically, I can remove the old one without breaking or cutting it, but after trying to remove it, I understand why every single person I've seen discussing it either broke or cut the old switch to get it out.

f*ck my fingers are sore right now.

New drivers in Brazil have one year of a Driving Permission stage, where you can't get past 4 points in your license (a.k.a. you can only get one "medium" or lower ticket). There's some states that won't let you even drive on the highways, aprehending your car if they stop you and see you're a learner.

Wow, that is insanely fast for a car like that. We're not talking about Bugattis or Lamborghinis with actual engines, now.. this is a hybrid Tesla. I'm really impressed.

And a SUV nonetheless. Might be the quickest SUV ever now.

I'm not surprised, Tesla is on a role. My ride in the P85D was unforgettable.

The Tesla is no hybrid.

Kinda worries me that this kinda power may be relatively commonplace beneath the right foot of so many poor drivers soon.

Still, I can't for my stupid right foot to have a go soon!

You make a good point.

Before it wasn't so much of a problem because you only opted for the faster model if you specifically wanted it because of higher fuel costs, tax, lower efficiency etc. etc. but with electric cars you don't have so much of a trade-off. To manufacturers it makes a lot of sense to just shove the same hardware in all the cars because of economies of scale.

It is worth noting that you have to put it in the 'ludicrous' mode to unlock the power however. I suspect in the future we may also see some marketing tactics like how the early Mini One was just a Mini Cooper with a nerfed ECU, where customers have to pay to get the better performance (or modify the car themselves voiding the warranty). I think insurance will definitely play a part in this: insurance premiums for the model will likely become very expensive and Tesla would have to respond by offering a dampened version.

Nobody is gonna buy that fast of an SUV unless they were going to buy a Cayenne turbo or something anyway (which are still crazy fast). A normal Model S isn't that fast 0-60 relative to many of the cars on the road. And most of the teslas on the road aren't p85d's. So it isn't that big of a problem as most people aren't gonna buy the insanely fast ones.
