So one of my bosses let me drive her brand new Kluger and i gotta say, i now see why people get this, it is such a nice car to drive and be in, she has the midrange GXL model, which has a few more creature comforts than the base GX but not as many as the Grande. The V6 i think is a good choice too, sure it is thirsty but it just has power when you need it which is one of the reasons why it is so nice to drive. Do you guys have these cars in your country, and if so what do you think of them?

Edit: have done

It's a Highlander.

Everytime I see one, I think of this smug little bastard.

On the subject of round abouts, Anyone think of any good reason why its illegal to do a U turn on a roundabout?

Going back down the road you entered the roundabout from is Illegal, At least in Canada, For some reason.

No, that sounds pretty stupid. It's extremely common practice to use a roundabout to turn around. And much safer than a normal U-turn.

That's not how he clarified it on his second line.

Off the top of my head, i think you're not supposed to go round more than three times. Might be wrong. Going to look it up.

Edit:
Seems you can stay on them as long as you like (but multiple circuits could be seen as careless driving). Also, what Svip said.

What really annoys me is people that dont signal adequately. I signal my intentions on approach, and then signal when leaving. A lot of people don't even bother. I think people are getting taught something different these days.

I think people are getting taught something different these days.

I reckon people are just lazy. Often on roundabouts people do the opposite of what they are/aren't signalling, for instance they leave the indicator on because they were changing lanes or just turned onto the road, but are actually going straight. I often hesitate to enter the roundabout if they are not slowing down or if their expression doesn't match the indicator, and it has avoided a few close shaves/accidents.

I guess it's true what some people say: you have to assume everyone else on the road is about to make a mistake. Only 1 in 100 drivers might make a mistake, but considering the number of cars you encounter in any given year, that adds up to a big risk.

I watch their eyes (if possible) Its a good indicator of intentions. But thats not foolproof either....

I think i read/heard somewhere that people who are going straight across are less likely to indicate when they are leaving because they are being taught that you only indicate if turning left or right? I may be wrong or its an urban legend ect.

20 years since I took my test now. Its my licenses birthday not far in the future. If it were an american it would be allowed to drink beer soon.

You're wrong, I got my license less than a year ago and was taught to always always always indicate when leaving the roundabout. People are terrible at doing it though, even my friends who just got their licenses. It's not f*cking hard to do. There's a lot of assholes who are in the right-turn lane, but go left regardless. I can't tell you how much I've had to use my sound horn.

When I was learning to drive the instructor taught me the same thing, I still do it but sometimes it confuses people. For example:

X6Dymbt.png

The green car sometimes lurches forward when they see you indicating in the red section. Indicating there is strictly correct because you have passed the exit, but because you are still heading towards the green car and have your indicator on they intuitively feel like you are going to disappear before you reach them.

You dont have to use your turning signal when entering a roundabout, and thats because you can only go one way.

While leaving a roundabout you have to use your turning signal.

Motivated by the totally rad diagram epoxi drew, i decided to make my own "when to signal" roundabout diagram. Its UK/RHD diagram even though I drive the other way around (I forgot until halfway through, and its obviously too awesome to redo). Orange for lefty turn signal, browney for righty turn signal. I think I'll send this off to the highway code people.

There aren't many where I live, but for future reference, are you supposed to go around multiple times to make it easier for you to change lanes multiple times?

Like say You enter and you end up in the inside lane, do you keep going around until you merge to the outside then take your turn, or you do you try to get to the outside as fast as possible?

Will replace the sample photo with real when i can.

I'm not a fan of the front of it (it's called the Highlander here) but I do like it overall. There's a few where I live and it's almost like all the semi-rich people have replaced their Lexus RX's with these things.

There's also one around that has white paint, black tinted windows and massive black aftermarket alloy wheels.

Not sure what the point of waiting to tell us is, but whatevers. As long as it's something interesting they're teasing with, and not something like a Camry.

it's not a Camry...

I'm waiting because I wanted to sell the other car (the one I'm replacing it with) and get the new insurance/plates/sales tax paid.

then some good wash, some good pictures, a good video or two.

I'll drop the reveal sometime this weekend after the car show that we're taking it to.

this one: http://coloradocarshow.com/events/lincoln-techs-4th-annual-hot-rod-car-show/

we'll get some good pictures there as well.

Looks like not getting a car anytime soon. I guess I'll just watch a bunch of youtube videos on how cars work until the mean time when I have a car and am ready to tune it.

Toyota Corolla GTS. The only car I know that can be in terrible condition and can sell for $7,500+.

You do know why they cost that much, right? There is a lot of demand for them.

It's still stupid, though. What makes people think: "Hmm. This car is falling apart, is barely functional, and needs a lot of work. I'll sell it for $8,000."? It's ridiculous.

Because there are people who think: "Hmm. This car is falling apart, is barely functional, and needs a lot of work. But I'll buy it!" I would definitely sell it for what it's worth. If I had one.

Well the rule of thumb is when you are making a right hand turn you are suppose to stay in the outside lane and if you are making a left hand turn you stay in the inside lane.

Most roundabouts here in the U.S are only one lane with 2 or 3 difference exits so you don't have to worry about changing lanes while doing it nor will you need to go around more than twice.

Got a question about headlights, The headlights in my car aren't very bright even when i switch to my brights so i'm going to put in new headlights but i want to get those blueish hint headlights like the ones they use on BMW & Audi's are they called Xenon lights?

Not a chance.

A mildly rusty Mk1 Escort shell alone goes for £20k. An E30 M3 shell north of £15k.

Xenon is the element used in the lamp (chemically speaking all kinds of lightbulbs use Xenon), the term you are looking for is HID - High Intensity Discharge lights.

I would only install them if you can get some factory headlight units designed for HIDs, as the HID bulb has a different 'shape' of light source (because it's a gap with a spark in the middle as opposed to a filament) so your stock headlight units will throw the light everywhere, blinding other road users.

QeCWcFw.jpg

Due to the high voltages involved needed to create a hot arc giving all the light, you will also get a pair of 'ballasts' as part of the HID kit, you will need a place to mount these somewhere sensible in your engine bay.

Also, when choosing a bulb don't go above 5000K in temperature because that just makes tacky blue light, any car looks much smarter with classy white light (4300K - 5000K), this is the temperature range Mercedes BMW etc. use, plus if the light is white you can actually see what you are doing.
