They do have a positive effect, yes. They're not commonly used as they're not allowed in many racing disciplines, but they've previously been used in some of the lower Formulas, plus hillclimb, to great effect. The idea is maximising front-end grip, but of course it needs to be balanced with significantly increased downforce at the rear. They tend to be tuned for a particular speed range. Another reason they're not used that frequently is the very high drag penalty at high speeds. Fine for time attack and other forms of racing where top speeds tend to be quite low, not so great elsewhere.

..And so I return from the ten hour round trip to the north for free entry to Driftland and to get a hold of the track for potential future visits. Went up on Saturday, stayed overnight with a full English breakfast to stand in the cold for four hours. WORTH IT x10. Although I'm no photographer at all, and it was nailbitingly cold, have some of the best shots of the taxi's doing their thing (caution, big images);

Also a reason you also see a large spoiler on the back as well.

You don't really put a big spoiler on the front in you don't have it on the rear as well, that's where you would end up with no control over the car.

Ok, I thought I should ask here, in the budget of 100,000 SEK which is €10,000, what car would you recomend? I might take a loan for a 100,000 SEK more (I already talked to the bank if I was able to take a loan like that)

So from 100,000 to 200,000 (€10,000-20,000)
Something special, maybe something Italian (AMG's, BMW M-cars and Audi S/RS-cars is if it would be German)

Here are some that are for sale in Sweden around that pricerange

Audi S6 5,2 Avant Quattro -07, 435hp..

I'd recommend you get none of those. I can't imagine they would run very long before you're going to need to dump another load of cash into it to keep it going. Don't stretch your resources too thin over a car, you're not going to be able to enjoy it properly.

I've been saving for a few months now for a proper car, with some proper performance, if I have to do a maintance or something it will be ok, since all my money go to my cars. I make about €3,000 a month after taxes, I been saveing €1,000-1,500 (even 2,000some times) a month for a serious car, and I have been working hard for it .. I kinda think I earned it, but I can simply keep saving for when something might go wrong. So with money I don't think there is a problem.

Then when I'm gonna look for a car, one of the machannics that worked at my old inturnship will help my look att the cars. His been working with high end cars for almost 35 years. So I have everything under controll :)

What Outcast said.

Assuming it isn't just pie-in-the-sky bunk, like your Ferrari musings, I'd spend maybe half that on something that doesn't have an average interim sevice cost north of £2k and keep the rest as a slush fund.

You could still get a nice E36 M3 saloon and keep it running. Or a non S/RS V8 Audi, non-M V8 5-series et cetera. You could even get an early C32 or E55 and have a workable slush fund.

Seriously, until you try running an S/RS/M/AMG for a couple of years you won't even begin to comprehend the bills they can throw. I sunk probably about double the purchase price of my £5k B5 S4 into it over a little under two years. And that's excluding between £700-£1000 a year for insurance, £225 a year tax and 15k a year worth of BP Ultimate at 21mpg.

I'd go for the E46 if it clears the Vanos Chip and Rear Subframe recalls, but I'm extremely biased. Everything else except the E39 sounds extremely prone to sh*tting on itself right after you buy it.

But I think I could afford it, I have been talking to some of the BMWM-owners in BimmersOfSweden Car Club, there are alot of them that have the same pay as me, that still in the same age, from what I've heard they aren't to expensive to maintain, and They told me all I needed to know before bying an M3/M5/M6, what to look for and so one.

Anyway, what I want is just something that is properly modern, with enough power (would be nice if it was faster then my friends Nissan 350Z) :rol:

As I said, I will still keep saving the same amouth every month, so if something goes I have some reserves for fixing! :)

It's your cash, you can do with it what you like. But whenever you need to justify the costs to people, it might be worth it to step back and reevaluate your finances. Like I've said before, being able to buy a car and being able to afford it are two very different things. Also if you are serious about getting an RS/M/AMG, keep in mind the cheapest ones you find may end up being the most expensive.

Thing is though, you're floating around the bottom end of the price range for most of them. I appreciate that you've talked to some people who own them but just because they can afford to run them on a wage similar to yours with no consideration given to other outgoings, use, and let's be honest, your propensity for abusing cars, doesn't mean you can. The fact the whole exercise just seems to be for the sake of juvenile oneupmanship makes me think it's all nonsense anyway, but a single serious fault on most of those cars will cost you almost the purchase price again.

M5/M6 and S6/8 gearboxes go bang quite frequently. The latter are a snip at about £4k to fix. The former were something like £10k last time I looked. A set of tyres for an S8 is about £2k. Both the S6 and 8 require occasional treatments to mitigate carbon buildup. That's up to £1k, depending on how it's done. A set of disks and pads for an M5 is well over £1000. The fact is that these cars might be cheap nowadays, but a £100k car still has £100k car running costs if you pay £10k for it.

If I was you I'd run a moderately expensive car for a couple of years before buying something which could cost you £10k+ a year to run. See how do do with a £6k car and a £4k slush fund for a year or two; if you can hack that and still put away a bit of money every month then get something mega expensive.

I just miss the time from my inturnship, then I got to drive various luxerycars, CLS AMG, E55 AMG, E60 M5, RS6, RS6, I even drove Anston Martins, Ferraris, R8's and Lambos, I even got to drive a Koenigsegg once, which I had to deliver to the buyer :D

I mean, Now i own One Volvo V70N, V50, and 2 740's plus another one to come next week.. I have my Porsche 944, my 500 SEL and the 750iAL, but I kinda feel I want to step it up a notch. Ii kinda feel it's time to do so now :)

A step up would be getting rid of the various bits of detritus in your car collection and replacing all but maybe 2 of them with something decent.

Now let's play "Keep, Sell, Destroy" with your collection to get you on the right track.

Keep: 750iAL

Sell: 500 SEL (these things for for tens of thousands over here. There's one for 100+k that I posted in the spotted thread)

Destroy: 944

Destroy- all those rotten 740s

Keep- the V70 and 944, but the latter only on the condition you actually do something with it. The former for when whatever you buy inevitably breaks down.

Sell- the rest.

I have to admit I've never really understood why someone who owns a 750, V70 and fancy Merc has such a desire to collect utter crap. Three rusty 740s? The mind boggles.

I have a car related problem.

I've been driving the 750i for a week now, but I have a major problem with it.

I don't feel emotionally attached to it.

Don't get me wrong, it's an incredible piece of kit and I like it a lot, it's just that I don't reallly feel the connection between us. It doesn't speak to me. When driving it, I have respect for it, I like its comfort, but it just feels like I'm driving someone else's car. Not mine.

Just noticed when I talk about the car, I always say "it", not "she".

Doesn't even have a proper name and I've named every car that my parents had, and even the E46 had a name.

He's a f*cking hoarder. It's like those f*cks that have a massive amount of classics rotting on their property and refuse to sell to people, just cause.(not calling the 740 a classic though)

Or he just keeps them as trophies for all of the stupid sh*t he's done in them.

I realise this is how you connect yourself with cars. But I love my DS and my CX, but I would never call either 'she'. Calling a car 'she' or giving it names bothers me. It seems a bit pretentious to be honest.

I would only name a car, if I did some extensive work on it myself, that would make it 100% unique. Kinda like this Chevelle,

Well, KInda hard do explane really, These cars (belive it or not) are getting kinda rare. Since the most goes to the crusher nowadays. 18 year old that just got their license buy them, end pretty much abuse it then send it to the junkyard, then there are a few that goes to Folkraces (don't know if you know what that is, I think thats a swedish thing)

That is a race where the only thing the car need is a rollcage, the cars in those races are mostly Old Volvo's and Saab's (but also Opel, Mercs, Fiats etc)

Here is a picture of a Folkrace-car

Folkrace_caravanhallen_cup_(6109253765).

That use to be a Volvo 245

1988-1991_Volvo_240_GL_station_wagon_(20

Most of the 240's are already gone, these are going up in value, trust me even in Sweden these are getting expensive to buy.

The Amazon, the 140 is the same story!

I just think it's worth to save a few from the teens and the crushers

Gee, if you want a classic Volvo, why not an Amazon?

Maybe later, but they don't tempt me

Or P1800?

Those are nice, but not now :/ both for that and the Amazon, maybe I'll get some to fix later on!

I won't sell the 740 for a while, no. But mine is realy rotten

I was down working at the car a few minutes ago, I was looking for rust, but the truth is, the exhaust is the only thing on the car there realy are any rust...

There is one small part on the front of the hood that had rust, and some in the edges of the doors, other then that its pretty clean, I'm gonna go buy some paint and some grindingpaper next week, then it will be like 99% rustfree! There is no rust in the engine bay, the trunk or under the floor. Or even under the car!

You can't sand rust away. You might be able yo treat surface rust but for anything else you have to break out the MIG.

The rust that is, is so little, the rust is this big "O" like that O. so it should be ok
