Well you see my interest cars stemmed from videogames , and I was like oh I guess f1 must be the fastest racing class. But I'm done trying to defend myself..

I don't even think I like cars anymore tbh

Good, less crap in vehicle chat.

I'm sure plenty of our interest in cars stemmed from, or at least was encouraged by videogames, but even way back when, I wasn't asking my dad what "racing class" random cars are on the street.

I also knew that I thought street racing is pretty f*cking stupid, and that racing should happen on a track, in which case, you can actually see what class the f*cking car is in.

Completely agree, street racing is vile. I love watching videos street racers crashing their sh*t(as long as no innocent bystander is involved).

Such a bitch.

Look man, we could do this all day, but I'll just stop.

Think about it, do at least a bit of research, then post, I'm telling you, it'll turn out better every time.

No malice intended.

Haha yeah, I love how masculinity is so tightly tied to pickup truck marketing.

I remember a range of GM ads from the height of the recession making the Chevrolet's lack of features a selling point, saying you don't want 'girly' heated steering wheels, vanity mirrors, electric sunroof etc. etc..

Today I learned being a real man is about:

- Not having options on your car

- Having a V8 engine

Today I also learned: don't buy a Chevy Silverado because everyone will think you're sexually insecure.

You don't know how many times I see people saying that they want just a basic truck. How trucks shouldn't have anything that is considered a luxury. They should be as basic as can be, since they are suppose to be used for work. Also how we need a compact truck in this market, with a 4 cylinder diesel and manual.(there is a very good reason why we don't have them, they don't offer good value when compared to full sizes here. When it comes to consumers and manufacturers. You can get a single cab fullsize with a V8 for less then 25k here. A compact would cost around the same)

I really want a small truck with a diesel and manual everything.

Actually, my ranger is pretty close on all that except for the diesel part. Kind of wish it had power steering and at least a small back seat to have some more room for the front seat.

But it's not like you are the kinda person who buys new, right?

WHY ARE YOU YELLING?

Next you're going to ask silly questions that could be answered by using google for 5 seconds. Then get mad and say cars don't interest you, after everyone calls you an idiot. :p

Of course not, but I'd probably buy one 20 years down the road when they're dirt cheap. At that point, it would be nice if there's stuff out there (like being made now) that still fits my bill. The whole manual transmissions going the way of the dodo is going to be a big problem for me in a decade or two.

U avin a giggle there m8

I admit my tendency to rely too much on other people to spoon feed me information and I should've done research

So anyone else going to the Geneva Motor Convention this year?

From the looks of it so far, it looks like it's going to be insane this time around.

My brother's got his alloys back on the Skyline. This time around, he's got Falken tires which are safer and better quality, but cost an arm and a leg when they need replacing.

Also had a squiz at the new R36 GTR to be released. 800hp from a hybrid sounds juicy, even if it's too "flashy" compared to the old GTR (which, in my humble opinion, should have come with the VK series V8 engine and not a twin turbo V6).

Some guy is raffling off a modded '97 Impreza GL, for R$50 (roughly USD15) a ticket. The total value of the car is R$ 36,000.00 (roughly USD 12,000.00).

I can't say I ain't tempted. And the car is in a good shape, too.

What's the competition like for this car? Big interest? How far have they taken to modify it? How many like this appear for sale/etc..? At $15 a pop I'd be tempted even just for the one ticket..

I'm tempted for two, three tickets even. It's kinda tricky, because:

  • If less than 349 tickets are sold, the winner gets either the money, or the car at the price (it's R$26,000.00, I saw it wrong last time) minus the pot;
  • If between 350 and 479 tickets are sold, he'll swap in the original parts and you win the car.
  • If between 480 and 999 tickets are sold (that's the set maximum), he'll give you the whole car, with both original and modded parts.

And there's 152 tickets sold. You'll have to get the car in another state (800km from my house), plus all the documents and licensing fees (R$ 3,000.00 maximum) for 2015. The car was even featured in a known brazilian car blog, that was the old BR Jalopnik.

If you can hook up the translator (or know portuguese), you can check it out here. I'm still thinking how many it's safe to buy...

I heard there was a 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX at a junk yard not too far from me. I got so excited. I go to check it out today only to find out it's pretty much trash. Only a few parts are left. I'm f*cking tired of this. Every single time I see a car I like, I go see if any are around and they're either in terrible condition or are too expensive. EVERY. F*CKING. TIME. WHY.

I feel your pain, but in a slightly different way. I find "good" deals on sweet import cars all the time. The problem is that it's almost a guarantee that the insurance companies won't insure it if it's something crazy. I imagine the insurance companies in the States are similar to here; they wouldn't want to risk insuring a young man with an insane foreign car, especially one commonly known to be associated with street racing like a Skyline. So I wouldn't feel too bad that you're missing out since you probably wouldn't be able to drive it on the roads anyway.

I don't usually go to a junkyard to find a car in good condition, lol.

That's how my insurance company is. (Sort of.) Anything above the price of a few thousand dollars and they raise the insurance super high. But it depends on the car.

But what annoys me is that almost every other car there wasn't too bad in terms of condition. Only a few were in terrible condition.

Should I remove my airbags and sell them?

I hear they are incredibly expensive to replace.

This was unveiled at Geneva today, not sure if I'm a fan of the looks but it's pretty awesome.

And so was this, the Bentley EXP 10 Speed 6 Concept, what a stupid name.

You won't get much for them. It's only super expensive if you are buying brand new airbags.

Was thinkin about that, Maybe I could undercut and sell them to people with deployed airbags.

But if you think I won't get much, I probably won't bother.

Most people I see that remove their air bags just explode them and video tape it. Assuming you're wanting to get an aftermarket wheel or just cut weight? The Miata I autoX has both bags removed (and has an aftermarket MOMO wheel). I don't feel any less safe without them.

Yeah but that's probably because you've already had to squeeze your fat ass into that poor Miata and if you crashed there isn't any more space for you to bounce around in. :pp
