Do you reckon it is stupid to have it as a primary car? I fear that it may be too small.

What the hell are you transporting? Lumber?

For an Alfa, you'll make it work.

So, people of GTAF's Vehicles forum, what do I do? Do I go or do I stay?

I say go. It's going to happen with or without you so why deny yourself the opportunity? I get the whole principle thing but what did you expect?

The fact that even Ferrari could pull this off was ridiculous. I still need more decision thinking.

I should mention though, that the fee is €90 per person. So if I bring a passenger, that's €180.

It sounds kinda similar to when they released the more recent Dodge Charger, Making it a 4 door sedan, rather keeping with the tradition of a 2 door muscle car.

I'd go, It sounds like it could be fun.

I wouldn't take the DS branding too seriously, business is business, things change, there isn't a classic nameplate out there that hasn't been used and abused in an effort to squeeze out more sales.

The modern Mini is bigger than any city car and has a wheelbase as long as a '90s Land Rover Discovery, the Beetle is a FWD car with a water cooled engine, the most popular specs of BMWs could be outpaced by your average petrol family car, the Golf is a large premium brand hatchback, the Dodge Dart is a Fiat, I could go on...

My huge penis.

Seriously though, guitar and amplifier. But you're right, I'll make it work. No idea how its fuel consumption is, but I imagine that it isn't awful as this car is from the beginning of the "new" era for Alfa and Fiat, when they started making really good cars.

Love how GM is doing the good ole "you have to buy a truck to be a man" marketing ploy on the Colorado....

Haha yeah, I love how masculinity is so tightly tied to pickup truck marketing.

I remember a range of GM ads from the height of the recession making the Chevrolet's lack of features a selling point, saying you don't want 'girly' heated steering wheels, vanity mirrors, electric sunroof etc. etc..

Edit: Found it.

vs. Dodge

vs. Ford

vs. Toyota

Today I learned being a real man is about:

- Not having options on your car

- Having a V8 engine

Today I also learned: don't buy a Chevy Silverado because everyone will think you're sexually insecure.

Only people shallow enough to think that buying a pickup truck is what makes you a man. ;)

It's like Jeep bringing back the Cherokee nameplate. The original Jeep Cherokee had solid front and rear axles, whereas the new one has 4 wheel independent suspension. The original Cherokee also had a simple, rugged, handsome design:

And then there's the new Cherokee, which looks like some Chinese knockoff of every other crossover SUV:

You don't know how many times I see people saying that they want just a basic truck. How trucks shouldn't have anything that is considered a luxury. They should be as basic as can be, since they are suppose to be used for work. Also how we need a compact truck in this market, with a 4 cylinder diesel and manual.(there is a very good reason why we don't have them, they don't offer good value when compared to full sizes here. When it comes to consumers and manufacturers. You can get a single cab fullsize with a V8 for less then 25k here. A compact would cost around the same)

Don't get me wrong, I'm not criticising those with utilitarian requirements, I just think it's silly to market a car for not having as many features as its competitor unless the pricing justifies it.

Also, options are not inherently bad things, they add very little to the overall cost of a car (that's why dealers are so keen for you to tick boxes, it's virtually all profit), so not buying a truck at the price-point you want just because it has more than you wanted is cutting off your nose to spite your face. When I bought my TV, I just wanted an HD TV (no tuner or media needed) which I could plug into my computer, when the best value TV happened to be a Smart TV I still bought it because it did what I wanted at the price I wanted to pay.

Can't you just do the safe traditional thing young people do of putting a massive sound system and fancy wheels on your existing car?

And like you said before, you'll find a way to fit guitar(s) and an amplifier (I think I can't put an "s" here :p) on the Alfa. I don't think it's stupid to buy that thing, seriously.

My pals and I have been openly mocking this concept for years, until one of them got his first car not long ago. His 1997 Nissan Primera in "old man red" wakes me up at nights with that dumb-ass sound system. Nothing says "I have a big schlong and am not part of youth culture" like a big-ass sound system in an 350 buck car.

Now, my rich(and loud(and overly talkative(and slightly cocky(and a total klutz)))) friend Martin went the tasteful route:

10005400_416230125179842_2068133989_n.jp

2006 Alfa Romeo GT something something JTD, f*cking amazing bucket seats and all the other extras, including a Bose sound system without a 5-feet sub in the back. Feels nice and tight. Only flaw is that it's a diesel sports coupe.

Anyway, his Alfa and my Fiat experience combined + my time as a volunteer Alfa Romeo mechanic locally (to learn more about the cars) have swayed me into the decision, unless of course a Saab pops up locally. It's just like the Saab 900 Turbo(in Edwardian Gray) - I just had to have it. Now, this is the car I must have.

Hey Outcast, I'll write you a song for 3 grand. Or paint your house. Or whack a guy. Or whack a guy off. Whichever you want.

Ahhh, that changes everything. I am not so worried if in most circumstances you can either maintain the car yourself, or have a good enough relationship with someone to get things fixed cheaply.

That sounds like a really interesting opportunity, what have you learned so far?

Well, it's been some years, but I did:

  • general servicing
  • fluid changes
  • various filter replacements
  • fuel pump replacement
  • Brake replacements
  • Shock replacements
  • Small-time electronic stuff

So I guess just pretty basic stuff. It's really easy when you have the proper locale. As of now, I don't even have indoor storage.

e: I forgot to explain that they closed down last year. After the father and founder's death, the son who ran the place was never the same. He bought a car for his dad right before his death, and my mother bought the car for like a half price after a few years of it just sitting in the showroom. Last year he sold the dealership and workshop to some property investors I think it was, and his team was moved to join a chain.

They need to bring back the Chevette, Ultra cheap barebones car. Everything nowadays has all kinds of unneccessary stuff, Power steering, Power brakes, AC, etc..

I really want to see them release a sub 7000$ car, Or at very least offer a barbones package to an existing car.

If I live in an area that's very hilly should I get bags if I plan on lowering my car?

And does the Lexus Rc f really fit into the street racing/tuning scene?

Dude, you should just totally do it and get an Alfa. You know you want to. Seriously, it seems like you totally have your heart set on one, and its not the first time you have thought about buying one either. The only solution is to just go ahead and find one you just cant say no to, otherwise you will be regretting it forever.

In other news I will possibly be car shopping this week. I am picking up the CLK from the garage tomorrow morning (again) and I am sick of throwing money down that ever increasing black hole.....so its getting advertised for sale. Will probably buy myself something more reliable... Like an Alfa Romeo maybe.

Well, do some research on suspension before asking us questions that require somewhat deep explanations of differences.

Airbags are very complicated and can be extremely expensive, you'd likely be better off with adjustable coil-overs or the like for lowering your car while still being able to have a usable ride height.

Look up build threads for cars that use airbag systems versus thread of cars using adjustable coil-overs, it's a pretty significant difference, and there's not really enough information provided by you to actually give you a good recommendation besides "hilly terrain".

What kind of vehicle?

Just how "hilly" are we talking about?

What is your driving experience?

There are many question that would come up in such a situation.

But the "which class would this car be in" and street racing/tuning questions sound more like they are stemming from videogames and don't have much correlation with the real world.

Stopped caring.

If you want to be taken seriously, maybe you should start caring.

I really want a small truck with a diesel and manual everything.

Actually, my ranger is pretty close on all that except for the diesel part. Kind of wish it had power steering and at least a small back seat to have some more room for the front seat.

Well you see my interest cars stemmed from videogames , and I was like oh I guess f1 must be the fastest racing class. But I'm done trying to defend myself..

Off topic but Murdoc and Majestic remind me of Gardening with maurice with the red neck guy.

I saw in person while driving past the new Discovery Sport from Land Rover and i gotta say, it just looks like sh*t it really does, and imo i don't know why people will buy it in fact when i saw it in person, one of the LED daytime lights were not working where it should have been which made me laugh a little considering in Australia the starting price of these cars is just over the 50K mark and the light is already not working properly (slow claps)

Soz land rover but its a no from me.

Good, less crap in vehicle chat.

I'm sure plenty of our interest in cars stemmed from, or at least was encouraged by videogames, but even way back when, I wasn't asking my dad what "racing class" random cars are on the street.

I also knew that I thought street racing is pretty f*cking stupid, and that racing should happen on a track, in which case, you can actually see what class the f*cking car is in.
