More on the topic of engine swaps comes Project RADBUL: modifying the usually neglected MX-5 Mk3 by adding a custom-built Twin Turbo 26B Rotary in it. Photos below, but read the full report which was just finished here: http://www.speedhunters.com/2015/02/project-radbul-mad-mikes-26b-tt-mx-5-comes-alive/Only the bodywork todo next. Personally I think most cars deserve one madman build to their name, and this doesn't fall short on that in the slightest- infact it's probably the best thing that will ever come to the MK3 MX-5 at all.

I thought that was Mad Mike's new car. Christ alive, that thing looks mental.

It seems Aston Martin is weighing in on the track day hypercar battle with the new 'Vulcan'. It sounds absolutely mental!

So apparently we're sort of discovered the reason why the steering wheel wobbles when my brother drives his Skyline. Apparently, somewhere along the way (or, as we discovered today, whilst it was parked), the car has lost three wheel nuts and another six were so loose that they were able to be moved about by hand.

Any recommendations on a V6 engine?

What do you have in mind specifically? Looking to buy/observe/potential cars/swap etc? Question_Mark_icon.gif

Is anyone in here familiar with the Alfa Romeo 916 (GTV) (Fiat Tipo 2 platform)?

In other news, ""Fast""car magazine has unoffically changed it's name to Stance Golf MK V/Fiesta/Corsa/Mini/Audi TT, because who doesn't love to admire the effort put into a car slapped on the front cover which has only had it's wheels and suspension (swapped out by some corporate) with some new seats whilst complete chassis reweldings/redesignings, one-off engine bay expansions/swaps and more are being done alone over the period of a few years and relationships dented because of it, eh?

They have just replaced fibreglass body kits with stretched tyres.

As far as I know, the magazine is only designed for dentists' offices and Kwik Fit waiting rooms.

This car modding scene has always confused me. Can it really be cheaper to mod a brand new car than buy a good car on the second hand market? Is it purely insurance that these kids are trying to avoid?

Just FYI, the amount of money I've spent on my Citroën DS so far (and that includes purchase, insurance, registration fee, loan fees, garage fees and replacement parts) is still around the same kind of money as a Hyundai Getz.

In terms of standard consumer cars, it's never cheaper to buy brand new,

That said, as a daily driver I would definitely recommend a used Hyundai Getz over a classic Citroen DS, in your experience you may not pay much in terms of maintenance but you hardly drive the car: the typical Getz buyer will be looking at racking up 8,000+ miles a year commuting and shipping grubby children/pets/relatives around the country. If the smallest thing on the DS breaks you will spend weeks looking for a part competing with every other enthusiast in Europe, whereas there are hundreds of Hyundais in any given junkyard which people will be more than happy to get rid of at dirt cheap prices.

Combine that with the ease of parking, better safety, better fuel economy and the general conveniences of a modern car and the boring regular car clearly comes out on top . It is for these reasons that small economical cars are so easy to sell they are practically a commodity, while classic project cars sit in the classifieds section for months on end.

Not to be too controversial, but if we're really talking about what is 'cheaper,' the best thing to do is not to buy a car on credit in the first place, the loan fees alone for even the cheapest car are enough to buy a tidy set of modifications.

You don't modify cars for any kind of financial benefit. It's almost always guaranteed to lose money. It's a hobby more than anything. For the purchase price and modification cost of my B5 S4, I probably could have bought a tidy E39 M5. But I quite fancied building a point-to-point road-going saloon to my own specification. The amount of money I spent on my Corrado was laughable, but that thing was an an absolute weapon.

Has anyone ever gone on YouTube and just watched random car / bike videos that make you wanna get with a bunch of people and do sh*t? Like his video for example:

this might sound weird.

but I like watching videos of guys on crotch rockets crashing while lane-splitting.

mostly because I hate motorcycle riders.

3/4 of them are abject douchebags who feel like they're entitled to the every inch of highway and that the rules of the road don't apply to them. I love watching 'Good Karma' videos of bikers eating the pavement in heavy traffic. like a morbid fetish.

sort of like this:

The DS is an extreme example, I know. But you can get a pretty decent used Mercerdes for the price of a brand new Getz. And that Mercerdes will have all the benefits of the Getz + more.

Golfs aren't bad, but it depends on your country and what they offer. Go after something FWD or 4WD/AWD. I can tell you that a WRX or STI will be just as much as a RWD sports car in terms of insurance unless your provider classifies it as a family sedan.

Which generation? The Mk5 GTI is kinda a sweet spot between performance, price and daily usability. Arguably a bit more fun than a WRX too.
