It looks fine to me.

it doesn't deserve to wear the Charger badge.

this is leftover anger from the day the Charger concept went live.

the Charger is supposed to be a coupe, not a grocery-getter

That too. The older a car is the more real metal was used in construction and the more solid they are. I once saw a 1978 Mercury Grand Marquis sitting on a used car lot for $1000. It had been sitting for a while so it wasn't the best vehicle cosmetically but the internals were sound and it only had about 65,000 miles on it as well. If I had some extra cash at the time I would have bought it and fixed it up and it would have been an amazing car to have but I really needed something that I knew I could rely on. But damn it was pretty

One of the problems is that they may become rust buckets if you are not careful enough, with special mention to 1980’s GM stuff.

They might be disproportionate in all senses but I personally love these land yatchs, they've been my passion since I was a kid. It's like the kind of car I picture when I think about a strange car trip to the desert haha.

Yeah I love them too and the good thing now that I live in the desert is that older cars like this aren't all rusted out and are used as legitimate daily drivers by many people. SO that give me hope that one day I could get myself a land yacht in good working order and relatively good cosmetic condition. I'm leaning toward a 1970s Cadillac like an El Dorado or Coupe Deville. Simillar to this

I love the 77/78 Eldorado... 3000 for that one in Scottsdale. Nice, if I was in the area I might take a punt on that for 2000-2500. Also on the subject of Buicks, I was always kind of partial to the Roadmaster. The GM B-body is a good frame and the rear-drive 5.7 is a nice engine to have. Get one with the towing package, the uprated parts (cooling uprates ect) are great additions. Also nice ones can be had for a few thousand dollars. Its a lot of car for the money.

Yeah I wish I was in position to get it now but I won't be for a another few months. So hopefully around that time I could find one that nice for that price. It's either that or use the same amount of money for a down payment on a Lexus IS.

Behold the 707 hp, 204 mph Dodge Charger Hellcat!

charger628.png

And chances are, it's going to be under 70k.

A 700hp car for under $70k. f*ck me.

If you think it is too good to be true then you're right. I presume the only thing it's good at is straight line speed.

Nah, the current SRTs are good on the track as well.

Yeah that too. I wouldn't really want is as a car to live with everyday though.

I can't wait until i start seeing them go down the road. It will be interesting to listen to. When I see a Viper they have a pretty sweet sounding exhaust note. So I imagine this won't be any different.

I'm sure these things are going to sell like hot cakes down here in San Antonio. There's already a bunch of loud '13 GT500s running around town.

That Hellcat looks sexy as hell. There was a video I saw, here it is

Holy sh*t :inlove:

Also, here's my dad's old car. Taken in the 1980's, is this a Golf GTI or a Rabbit GTI?

I'm pretty sure a Rabbit GTI because of the red accent on the bezel, but i'm not big on Volkswagens so don't quote me haha.

They're the same. The Mk1 and 2 Golf were sold as Rabbits in the US.

why anyone would drool over a Charger is beyond me.

Challenger eats it for breakfast.

I also like the Challenger, but to me, the Charger is more appealing.

One thing I don't like about the Challenger is that it's too "thick". I loved the old models from the 70's.

I find 4-doors "appealing" too... when I'm driving around my grandma to pick up her groceries ;)

I agree that the Challenger is overall more appealing. I hate the Charger overall and the idea of a 4 door Charger is just Blasphemy.

Plus my dad had a 71 Challenger so that makes me a little bias I guess.

I personally can't stand the modern Challenger's design. It just doesn't look that appealing, it looks generic. And the Z/28 looks so much better:

So what's the word on the Scion FR-S guys? My dad can get 0% financing if he buys a new car through Toyota based on his credit history with them so I'm leaning towards one of them. As opposed to getting a used VW Golf or Camaro which would be about $20k but we would have to pay interest on so the payments would probably be the same or even higher than just buying a brand new FR-S. So It wouldn't make sense to pay the same or more for a used car. The ones I was looking at in the dealership run about $25k-$30k new depending on features and I'm not sure if ones in this price range are any good or not. Has anyone driven one? What are the known issues and are they fun to drive?

I'm sold after watching this video. But is this like really biased and paid off by Toyota or is it true?

I like the 2014 Dodge Charger, but the redesign is just kind of a weird mash-up of designs and they tried too hard to make it look like a cousin to the Dart. The current one looks more aggressive.

Purely my opinion, I'd take the FR-S as it's a much more interesting car, though I have a (dirty FWD) Celica so I am predisposed to the Toyota . I would want it with Toyota badging not Scion though, the Scion branding cheapens it a bit.

I didn't see any Toyota badged ones at the dealer. Only Scion badged ones and it doesn't really matter to me anyways.

They're fantasic. Up there on the list of stuff to replace the Leon with. Really nice to drive though they could do with a bit more power. I think a Litchfield charged one with ~280bhp, some TRD goodies (ducktail, arch extensions) and Volks or the like would a a perfect DD.

I agree with epoxi that the FR-S would be a better choice. I don't know about the Golf but I recently had a Camaro SS rental in the States and my goodness the blindspots on that car are unbelievable. The A pillars obscures most of the view when turning that you have to stick your head to the side to see where you're going, and the hood is so damn high that you can barely see out the front as well. The side mirrors are dinky little things that barely lets you see past the colossally high haunches. Sort of feels like looking in the mirrors of a cheap knock-off Gallardo. The only thing I really liked was the rear view mirror, not because you could see out the back, but because it was a nice minimalistic, bezel-less, design. I took it on Highway 1 in CA near Monterey through Santa Cruz, Pigeon Point, and Half Moon Bay. I would have given anything to have been in something like a GT86 or my 911 instead of that crap-can of a car.

As one would expect with the 'JDM' fans out there, there is a very comprehensive list on how to turn your FR-S into a GT86. As such, I think the Toyota badges would be very easy to come by (if you change your mind).

It's quite interesting to see the little things they have cut out for the US market, I guess it must save a lot of money.
