You might have to consider the relative price of cars over here compared to in the US, that's the main reason I want to have a residence there in the future. With my budget I would be able to play with cars of the calibre that Diablo mentioned whereas in Asia I have a harder time putting down the money knowing how much cheaper it is elsewhere in the world. For comparison to US car prices, both VW and Daihatsu set me back about 16k USD each, 997 (used) just north of 100k USD, 7 Series was just under 200k USD (I bought it new though), S-Classes were about the same when I got new. H2 was about 80k USD. With that amount of money plunked in depreciative assets isn't very good, but if I could I would have definitely gone with cars a tier above.

I just sold a bunch of my belongings so I can eat this week!

look I say more power to you.

so you wanna be a rock superstar? and live large? a big house? 5 cars?

if you've got a great job making great money then live that life.

because the game of life ain't fair and you only get to play it once. it doesn't look like Outcast is living beyond his means and he certainly doesn't need to boost his ego by displaying his assets to strangers on a forum. he's just doing his thing.

There have been many times where I've been very close to putting the money down on an exotic, but I've always pussied out at the last minute as I repeat to myself that being able to afford to buy a supercar and being able to afford to own a supercar are two completely different things. Either that or I'm just a cheap bastard. :p

They certainly are. I also think that your 997 is certainly enough car for you, at least for the time being. No offense, but you don't strike me as a capable enough driver to take advantage of anything that's proper fast. *insert Asian driver joke here*

Any thoughts on Millennias? I just put a down payment on a house versus going the M3 route right away. I always liked the body style of it and i personally think it's one of the classier Mazda designs of the late 90's. Speaking about the 98-00 design btw. Also i always had a soft spot for the Lincoln LS too. Can't explain it. Either one of these would be daily drivers and hold me over until next spring unless i absolutely fall in love and throw the idea of the M3 to the side.

The Millennia would be a lazy driver as i could never stand FWD at any point in my life (raised on power wheels and not big trikes maybe?) and the LS would be fine with being automatic since the production figures for "heel toe hero" variants range from 1 to maybe 2,000 and they came with a v6 instead of a v8.

I would much rather just get the auto because i'd end up wanting more from the weight choked v6 and opt for a swap which would be pointless because i could just throw that v8 into something smaller, cooler, and likely to kill me.

I also like the mid 00's Sonatas for a odd reason too.

The LS's are garbage. Stay away. Mellinias? Don't really hear much about them. Kind of one lackluster for a Mazda.

You can do better.

Stay far away from the Lincoln LS. They have some pretty bad reliability issues.

I'm starting to feel like I like American Muscle more than JDM.

Aside from the painful learning experience I've had with the 350z, I don't really click with the JDM guys where I live.

Considering saving for a Camaro instead of the z.

Judging by that parts list my guess would be that it's at least a $100,000 build.

Performance builds that you are considering are not for those with a light pocket.

I am planning on getting rid of my 1998 Volvo S70 2.4 my budget for a new car would be about 10.000€ but i don't know what to get. I am looking for a four door saloon car, No diesel and with a 200 or more bhp.

Looks like a Dart went to town at Mickey D's. The 2nd gen of the rebooted model pretty much blew the 1st gen away and they go and do this sh*t.

So how much do you think it cost to make the Nissan 420ztt?

http://www.automoblog.net/2007/08/01/nissan-420z-tt-a-760-hp-350z/

Will the car you end up buying be your first car? It seems like you're just looking at 'cool things' without thinking rationally; expenses, practicality etc etc

Nah man this is gonna be my second car. I just wanted to know how much the 4.2 litre switch would cost.

I'm trying to work on my problems with being practical but I've been a live fast die young/ all or nothing type ever since I can remember.

THESE MOTOR SWAPS YOU ARE SUGGESTING ARE NEVER GOING TO BE CHEAP OR EASY.

These types of swaps are one-off custom jobs that only the owner and their mechanics will know the true cost of. You keep asking how much these swaps will cost, but there is no easy answer. There is a price for parts, and then there is a price for labor. And in these types of jobs, the labor has to be performed by a highly skilled professional who know how valuable their time is. You can't just take a motor to a mechanic down the street and tell them to make it fit. The people who are performing these modifications have deep pockets, and more importantly, a deep knowledge of what they are doing. You can't expect to swap some random motor into your car and have 700hp for just a couple grand.

I've officially put the SAAB 'out there', though only in the SAAB turbo club Norway. I'm torn between these alternatives:

I'm shopping for a car and can use some advice. I want to find something that's fun to drive, but has pretty good utility in the $20-$25k range. I don't want anything large and clunky, but it'd be nice to have some room in the back if I need it. So I'm mostly looking at wagons and crossovers. At very least, I need to be able to throw in some skis and snowboards through the back hatch. If it can fit in a mountain bike, so much the better. But I could get a rack for that.

Now, the tricky part. Stick shift is a must. Not a sportronic, either. And I do want to be able to take it off road or through decent amount of snow. Nothing too extreme, but I do want to have 4/AWD, preferably with LSDs or locks.

So far, the best candidate I've found is a Subaru WRX wagon. Base model comes with a stick, and 2.5L turbo gives it enough power for its weight. Unfortunately, it's an AWD with all open differentials. I have found some aftermarket front/rear LSDs, but that still leaves mid open, and it's another $2.5k + work to replace differentials. All in all, I think I can live with that, but I would be interested to hear other suggestions. I'm sure there are alternatives I haven't thought of.

You won't need a limited slip front/rear, just a torque sensing centre unless yours planning on some serious off-roading. Personally I'd go for something like an '08 Subaru Forester XT.

Torque-sensing center would probably be fine. Looking at WRX in a bit more detail, it seems that it has a 50/50 viscous coupling for center, and not just an open differential as I thought. (The pre-2008 models had an LSD center, and the article I've read was worded in a way that made me believe that it was replaced with open.) 50/50 should suffice for anything I'd consider doing to that car. And I can have an option of replacing rear diff with LSD if I'll feel the need.

I do like the features of the Forester. It even comes with a lock on the viscous coupling. But it's a bit large. I wouldn't even feel comfortable driving an SUV. Even a small one. Crosstrek is probably as large as I'd go with Subarus.

The Forester doesn't feel as big as you'd think. I've got a massive soft spot for the XT Sport

What do you guys think about the Audi A1? I mean, for city use.

I'm starting to spend some $$ that I shouldn't be spending on my 06 BMW (some little problems here and there), so I want a new car like 2011 up. But not expensive.

I almost bought this 2000 Alfa GTV:
7936998256.jpg

It's in sweden, for $5800. Pretty cheap for a 3 liter V6 24v Alfa with no rust. The import taxes however, are so nasty that there's no point in importing a car. I did the math. This $5800 car would have an additional cost of a whopping $9500, JUST to get it past the tolls, giving it a grand total price of $15000 - 15 thou for a $5800 car! Ridiculous

Even more once you factor in legal fees after your wife finds out you paid that much to import a car over and ends up divorcing you.

It was pretty much the perfect car for the perfect price, but with so many fees from importing, I'll just have to pay more money for a car with a smaller engine and fewer features that's already in the country...
