About 20 miles south of Los Angeles, California. It wasn't in very good shape, though. The pictures make it look way better than it actually is. Bad paint job and missing several bits and pieces, such as the right front indicator lens. The wheels appear to be cheap junk. Not very well-cared for, that's for sure.

I've just never seen one, and I didn't see any markings on the rear.

That is strange. I really haven't no clue at all to what it is. But im sure someone here would know

Can someone take a look at the pictures of this car And tell me if the front lip will clear an average sized speed bump? The posting says it has a 2.5 inch drop and an aftermarket lip

It probably wouldn't.

Yeah. From the pics it looks like it would be right on the border region of clearing it or not.

Looks like it might if its that big of a problem just take a ruler and measure the Clearance I am assuming that there is a speed bump to get into your neighborhood but you could always swap out the bumper

So I've got this random green light on my instrument cluster that I've been curious about ever since I bought the car, and a year and a half later I still don't know what it's supposed to indicate. I've tried searching online but the only relevant result I found is that it might be a factory radar detector, but I've driven past cops tons of times without the light turning on or off. Usually it turns on or off whenever I drive over a bump in the road (speedbumps, railroad tracks, etc), but not every time, so I'm guessing whatever it is, it's faulty.

If anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them.

(ignore the fuel gauge, it only works about 10% of the time; my tank was almost full when I took these)

1987 BMW L7. Doubt you'll have any more luck than I did just searching around, I was hoping to get an answer from one of the guys in here with plenty of personal experience with older bimmers.

No idea. Never had that light come on. My brake and e brake lights are on pretty much constantly though. The only one i really pay attention to these days is oil pressure.

Might it be a security light I did some looking and I think that's all I could come up with but I'm not really a BMW man

Whats your opinion about BMWs choice, changing the old 6 cylinder engine (325i) to a turbocharged 4 cylinder (328i)?

Link to comment

I think smaller turbocharged engines are something we just have to accept. The era of V8s and V12s are coming to an end.

Sad, I know.

Really sad. My uncle was going to buy the 328i but when he found out that it was 4 cyl. turbocharged, he got a 1 year older 325i with the six cyl.

Maybe because he's old school. Hahah.

I prefer 6 cyl + too

I'd rather have a six. Shame you have to throw down metric sh*t tons of cash to get one in a 335i these days. At least it's turboed.

Speaking of turbos, had my 2nd Autocross sunday in the Miata. Getting better. Beat the owner of the car again along with a few other Miatas (one was a fairly beastly Mazdaspeed) and about a dozen other cars. Still pretty much mid-pack. Not too bad considering I might drive a Miata on average 5 minutes a week. Next event, it will be on a custom set of revlalved Bilsteins with GC sleeves, 700/400 Eibach springs, NB progressive bump stops, NB top hats, etc. Should be able to tune out some understeer then. Also getting a set of spherical sway bar end links for the rear I want to try out (running the rear sway disconnected now).

Is the Miata sprayed painted or painted with a roller? Cause the paint isn't even.

Also I finally did the final road test I had to do to get a full license. For the past 3 to 4 years I had a G2 which has the same privileges as a G aka full license, but I was still considered a student driver. Now I'm not. The test was pretty f*cking easy, and I went to a test center that only has a 48% pass rate.

Plastidipped with a gun. It changes color in different lights so that might be what you're seeing. Black, gold, or green depending on how the sun shines on it.

I posted your issue and photo on a BMW forum. 2 responses so far. One says it's not set up to light up from factory and could be something aftermarket set up to it. The other says he has his wired up as a check engine light (he modded it to do that).

Interesting. I guess I'll just stop worrying about it. Could you link me to the post so I can watch for future replies?

Do people steal car stereos any more?

I want to get a double-din stereo which doesn't look to blingy but my car's centre console is very easy for outsiders to see.

xBEZN60.jpg

The problem is that you can't remove the fascia, but the thing is...a stereo like this only costs £140 these days. I can't imagine anyone bothering to break into a car to steal one because by the time they're done the thing will have no resale value (especially relative to the risk and effort).

Going back to the topic of tinted windows, this is actually where they come in handy. I never seemed to have the same problems with car security that everyone complained about, and I would leave my flashy stereo fascia on most of the time. It didn't matter, because you couldn't tell it was there unless you very deliberately looked into the car. The added "crack-dealer" association Sivis talked about may also help, I know I'd feel less comfortable approaching a tinted car than a clear one.

Mine has a removable face plate, but I never remove it. I've had it for over 6 years. But it really depends on what kind of neighborhoods you frequent.

The new Vanquish is having Merc's AMG V8.

BMW is dropping the V12 in the 7 Series in the next model.

Anyone own, or have owned, driven or know anyone who does, the Honda S2000? Whats it like to live with ect. I am seriously contemplating buying one. I am a big fan of lumpy 2 door coupes and this seems to be decent value for money these days. Good power, low weight ect. I want something reasonably reliable and cheap to use as a summer cruiser/ track day tool.

I would buy one in a heartbeat if I could afford it. A little tight on knee room but definitely livable, especially if you're 6'2" or under. The AP2's are supposed to be more reliable and have a more usable torque curve, but they're a lot more expensive. I'm sure the 9k redline of the AP1's has got to be fun though, and they're a good bit cheaper.

Yes, I am 6ft, so it can be an issue in some cars. Also the model, thats exactly what I am after, i am looking at an AP1 (2003 or before). 9k redline is mad :) like a motorcycle. Good comments about the torque and reliability. Thanks for the input.

I am basically looking for a top-off RWD car thats light and fun to drive. Was looking at your MX5 pics recently and it looks great fun. I always wanted to get involved in the mx5 am race scene http://www.brscc.co.uk/Championships/BRSCC-MAZDA-MX-5-CHAMPIONSHIP This kind of thing. I want to renew my UK National B race license and get back into competitive driving. I'm still keen on the MX5 but the S2000 looks like a great car for money.

I totally typoed the next to last sentence there. AP2's have a more usable torque curve and don't have the oil starvation issues AP1's have. But they only rev to 8k and they're a good deal pricier.

Though the oil starvation issues on the AP1's probably aren't really all that common.

I could probably deal with slightly less low-end grunt if it did mean I could spin it a little higher.
