A prettier, faster, better handling, cheaper Maserati. I'm referring to the coupé particularly yes. In V8S form it's absolutely splendid- far more desirable than say a Ferrari California.

you're right of course, but I'm not referring to performance.

simply talking about body styles and chassis.

I was never a fan of the California. they might as well have reinstated the 575M. I don't get it.

The California always bored me unless it was opted with a lot of stuff. Some guy who lives not too far has an azzuro one with a full cuoio interior with all black diamond stitching options and all carbon fiber options. That looks good. But more basic California's just bore me.

Hi, guys, a quick couple of questions, I'd really appreciate as much information as you can give me :) It's about Diesel engines.

I'm getting myself a new car and I'm getting from a petrol engine car to a Diesel engine fuel car. So, I'm new to Diesel cars and I've heard something about the important differences about the petrol and Diesel engines.

Firstly, I'd like to know if it's true that (when the engine is cold) I need to start the car and then let it just work for a minute or so for the oil to flow through before driving? Since, in petrol cars, you could've just start the car and ride instantly, but as I've heard, if you start the Diesel and drive right away, you can screw the engine and a whole lot more up.

Second question is related to the first actually. I've also read it's important to do the same thing before turning the car off after driving. Is that true? After driving for a certain period of time and getting home, it's better to leave the car to work in one place for a minute before turning it off?

Also, I don't know if it has anything to do with my questions, but the car I'm gonna get has more than a 100 HP and running with a 1.9 JTD engine, so.. I'd appreciate if anyone could tell me a little something about this subject.

You really don't want to beat on any engine too hard before it's up to operating temp. That's where letting it idle for a while comes into play. I don't know it goes more for diesels than gas engines, but it's a good practice to live by. My main diesel experience was with big rigs and we let them idle for a good 5-15 minutes. Though we were putting them to work, quite literally. Grossing between 60 and 80k lbs. They definitely need to be at operating temp for that.

Letting it idle before shutting it down is to give the turbo a cool-down period. A lot of people don't do this (because they're lazy), but it will greatly lengthen the life of your turbo. You're basically making sure that your turbo is properly lubricated by doing so.

I would agree with Lurch that idling before and after use is recommended for longer life expectancy out of a vehicle. However, if you don't drive like a total jackass you'll be fine, too. During the first few minutes, there's no need to be hauling ass from dead stops. Accelerate casually until the engine has reached its normal operating temperature.

So I gained interest in the e39 M5 manual after seeing one 20 minutes ago. I thought its price would be low and got excited, but then I saw quite a few were over $40K. Damn, I didn't know it was still quite expensive.

Considering that M5s cost damn near $100k new you could say you were getting a bargain lmao.

Also the fact that the E39 M5 is also one of the best looking "modern" and sought after M5s, I'm not surprised it's still holding it's value.

I have a question regarding coilovers/lowering springs. I'm currently looking at either getting a set of Eibach/Techart lowering springs (which is cheap, under 1,000USD) or Bilstein PSS9 Coilovers (which would be about 2500USD-3000USD). I have no plans on tracking my car but I do want to reduce the wheel well gap. Should I just save my money and go for the lowering springs? I feel like it'd be a waste to get the PSS9s if I have no plans on tracking the car.

I don't know any specfics, but speaking from experience I'd go with whatever gives the softest ride, because the inconveniences of having a lowered car leave you relishing whatever little comfort you can get.

Definitely the Bilsteins. I have some first hand-experience with PSS9's and I think they're a great shock. PSS10's are probably slightly better. Bilstein knows how to make a shock and it's something that can still be decently comfortable on the soft setting and ready for a track on hard. I wouldn't hesitate to run one on your 997 even if you don't plan on tracking it.

A lot of that kind of thing riding bad is from the shock and spring not really being matched to each other. Basically, stiff springs without enough shock (lowering springs on stock shocks pretty much always falls into this category. With the Bilstein, you don't have to worry about that. If Bilstein gives you a choice of spring rates, choose the softest one and they will valve the shock accordingly.

Dull. Oh so dull.

Coming soon, in 1.6 diesel form, in a selection of different shades of grey, to a car supermarket near you!

Looks like every other current Ford. Just like all Audis look the same, and BMWs, and Mercedes...

A few years ago the Toyota Camry was often used as the butt of car blandness jokes, but compared to today's choices it looks positively riveting.

What you folks think of the Mercedes G class AMG, best not to list the price tag.

It isn't bad but I would never buy one. I'd rather have an ML63 AMG and hell instead of that I'd have a Range Rover Sport.

You guys like the new Ford Focus 2015?

It looks the same as the outgoing model year.

And this is coming from someone who hasn't paid much attention to the evolution of the Focus.

I like it a lot and I've friends who have the G63 and G65. Impressive vehicle and I really like the way it looks, but the interior is way too cramped for something of its size.

Kind of the problem with something that's been around for 35 years that was originally designed as a utilitarian vehicle. You've got a basic shape that's fine and roomy when there's nothing in it in its military adaptation yet positively cramped once you stuff it full of all the luxury nicnacs and safety features. Jeep Wranglers were always plagued with the same problem.

It‘s impressive in terms of size because it looks like a bloody fridge. I recently had the opportunity to see a G63 and a SQ5 Audi side by side, the Audi is wider and longer, and it is supposed to be a midsize SUV.

The Geländewagen is truly timeless! It's a very handsome car, very masculine. There's just something about it that is both sleek and rugged at the same time (?????)

Which is better, a manual e39 M5 or an automatic e39 M5? I could imagine the manual being more enjoyable.

Well of course the manual is more fun, but it really depends on what you plan on doing with the car and what your average commute is like (if you plan on using it as a DD). Personally I despise driving manuals in Central London but give me a nice empty B-Road and I'd despise an auto.

Yeah, but remember that it's a BMW. BMW automatics are absolute sh*t. Truly horrible transmissions. Go for the manual.
