To begin the process of de-pimping my car (in the short time for practicality and long term higher resale value) I want to get rid of my alloys.

I don't mind swapping them for new/used alloy wheels or steelies, all that matters to me is that the wheels should behave and look reasonably stock (i.e. no low-profile tyres, no obviously after-market features).

Where would be the most sensible place to find alternative wheels? They shouldn't cost much (since my long-term intention is to sell), but they should keep the car roadworthy for at least another 6 months.

Just find out what bolt pattern it has and go to a junkyard and nab a few steelies

I was thinking about that (it's 4x180, 15-25 offset, 65.1 centre bore by the way).

Some risks I can think of are leaky/perished tyres and unbalanced wheels, how can I identify these sorts of problems before I buy?

Also, what sort of price should I expect to pay for a decent condition set?

I'd just hunt out a set of cheap OEM wheels on Ebay. They usually come with tyres and will be cheap as hell, especially if you go for any that were standard with certain models rather than a cost option.

I've found excellent wheel sets for as little as 100$, it's just a matter of not being too picky. Do however, be alert of these symptomps:

Obviously eBay but have a look in the classifieds of the C2Club forum as well. I got a set of refurbished VTR alloys with nearly new tyres off a C2 being broken on eBay for around £200. I sold my old Furio alloys on the C2Club forum afterwards.

Damn, C2 Club has members-only classifieds.

Looking on eBay, every Peugeot/Citroen set of wheels (at least, ones with tyres that aren't too big) within a 50 mile radius seem to be either very tatty or have no tread left. Think a breaker's yard would have a better selection? The Peugeot 106/205/206/306/307/3089/CitroenC2/C3/Xsara/Saxo (all 4x108,15-25,65.1) are such popular cars I'm surprised there is such little choice.

Looks like Dacia. When you think about Jag you expect some old british class for gentlemen not some tacky looking crossover. Nothing special imo.

Well, I cant really imagine this car any better designed, because to make it grander and more UKish, you have to design a Range Rover. Jags design direction isnt that square anymore tough, so they can't really design a really square car. This concept has the design features of new Jags and looks thus like it is a new Jag. It isnt the prettiest and could use more details and overall needs more time to be completed. Personally, i dont even think Jag needs a crossover or a SUV. But at least it looks better than the piece of crap Bentley made.

Well, they kinda do need it, since they are probably losing some sales over not having one.

And this concept, looks pretty good, like most new jags.

As much as I hate the idea of luxury SUVs, the upside is that profits generated from their sales could go into producing or improving current models which we do like. Think a brand new XJ220. Of course thats a bit farfetched but you get the gist of it.

It is a fantastic piece of a high-end-SUV in terms of design, they did a good job not to make it weird and followed the trends initiated by Porsche and BMW. But I am quite neutral towards it, i.e. doesn‘t generate the wow-effect, perhaps because it is too ressembling to the rest of Jaguars line-up?

Signature soon.

It looks too much like a Mazda CX-7 to be properly good looking, but I still like it.

Ah yes, that's what it looks like, I was trying to figure it out why it's so familiar.

I went to look at a C63 AMG Black Series today and all I can say is OMFG. It's one of two in the whole country and I am considering it but it is bloody expensive at about 300,000USD.

Did you ever get anywhere with RPM Technik in regard to their performance parts? I know they've got a tailored programme set up for customer cars now.

Yeah I actually spoke to them a few days ago regarding the ducktail. The one they have now only has one intake inlet but my 997 has two, they just confirmed that they're having the first lot of double intake ducktails made up right now. Lead time is about 3 weeks and I'm just waiting for the invoice at the moment.

Fitted a set of new Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetrical 2s to replace my Michelin Pilot Sport 3s. Not bedded in properly yet but the road noise is significantly diminshed and there seems to be a little more progressive adjustability in the rear of the car. Which will be fun on the odd greasy roundabout when the inevitable warm spell ends and we're all coated in six inches of the wet stuff.

Need some troubleshooting help as I ran into a problem with my 911. I was driving home earlier and I was coming up to a set of traffic lights which were red, so I shifted into neutral so I could just cruise to the lights but as soon as I shifted to neutral all the warning lights on the dash lit up like how they light up on starting. I then realised the car was off and I had to restart it at the lights. Is this indicative of a larger problem or whats going on? I'm pretty worried as I had originally planned on driving the Porsche up to Taipei tomorrow which is a good 200km and I don't want to risk breaking down halfway there.

I put new rear break calipers on my car and popped a new battery in. Stated her up for the first time in months. 37k miles in all of its 15 years. At this point I think I'm going to offer the challenge as to who/what will die first; Me or the car.

My car has a cassette deck. How many people can say that?

8-track player would be indeed something. Cassette players are still popular in the old cars (people usually don't use them anymore, but since radio still works they aren't changing it).

So who here likes cleaning their cars? Do you do it yourself, take it through the car wash, or pay a valet to do it for you (Outcast, I'm looking at you).

Yes I pay people to wash my cars for me. I tried washing it myself over the summer but with disastrous results. I tend to have my cars washed at least once a week.

Is it just me or car radio systems are getting worse? The latest cars my father has owned (a 2nd gen. Focus, a Peugeot (I don't remember which model) and the current one, a new Ford Focus) can't keep the same station for a while and it continuosly lose the signal. However, in other older cars my father owned before, (Audi A3, a bunch of Golfs and a couple Nissan trucks) the radio system worked perfectly...

Me and many, many others. Believe it or not, old cars still exist down south. Some even have the factory radio. :monocle:

I went through a phase of being into detailing when I had the Mini. I can't really be bothered with it now though, my current car doesn't really show the dirt up.

I've never been into the whole detailing shebang but I do tend to give my car a good going over once a month with the autoglym. Invariably just before it starts to rain.

It's all a bit over the top really, if a cars in decent condition no normal person would notice the difference between a detailed car and one that's just had a bog standard wash. Now I just give the car a quick wash and put some Turtlewax all in one stuff on occasionally, still looks just as good as using expensive products. Machine polishing can really make a difference on badly swirled/faded cars though.

Got one in the Infiniti, actually tried looking for tapes but can't find a shop which sells them anymore. I think it is retro as f*ck though and I really like it.

OK...mine actually has a cassette in it. There is even another cassette in the glove box(for back up). See...now I'm going to have to take pictures tomorrow since those cassettes are actual mix tapes with novelty names written on the labels.

After having replaced the battery and fixed the breaks(so that fluid doesn't just shoot out of the line) I realized my car does the two most important things. It starts and it stops.

@Washing. I've gotten better with it, but around here you pretty much have no choice but to use a service. I use the crappy one where you get to sit in your car while going through. No one speaks english and there is no real price chart or anything - I just give the guy $10 and hope for the best. I went through it this weekend and that $10 got me two air fresheners that look like they are from Fallout. I swear it says 'Nuca'something. They do your tires, windows, and dry you off and stuff too.

I sold my Grand Cherokee, insurance ran out and got sick of paying extra for gas. Looking at this one here, what do you guys think?

http://edmonton.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-cars-trucks-1800-1997-Acura-RL-W0QQAdIdZ527575204

298,000km = 185168mi

The mileage on it is concerning, but it looks great otherwise. Can't see where the rust is, I'm assuming around the tires. What kind of questions should I ask?
