You park your car in the school lot. You turn the key off, you sip a coffee you lock your doors, using the door locks not the key button and get out. That is exactly what happened to me this morning. I heard new cars, the doors wont accually shut if the key is still inside the car.

Door locks? I don't really see how that is possible as the door locks are all operated by a button inside the car so it isn't really possible to lock yourself out as you have to have it unlocked to be able to get out of the car in the first place.

I'm actually thinking of trying this out on my BMW F02 and Merc W221. Just can't really think of a way to do so as it isn't really possible to lock the doors once you're out of the car without the fob.

This was one of those posts that shows how out of touch seb is with average joes and average joe cars. dontgetit.gif

Can't blame me for not trying though smile.gif I do occasionally drive normal cars like the Toyota RAV4 and Mitsubishi Pajero but of course I haven't logged as many hours in them so forgive me for my lack of knowledge.

I frequently rent the Volvo V40 when I am in need of a car in London though and I really really like it (though parking is a bitch).

If you're still wondering, you leave the keys in the ignition, open the door, hit the lock button, get out and shut the door.

I can see why this might not go through your mind if you've always been used to having keyless entry though.

Fun fact: this was impossible on my Volvo 240 and is still impossible on my BMW L7. With both cars, you cannot lock the driver's door if the door is open. It's probably the same for the majority of BMWs - have you ever actually tried locking yourself out of your E28, Lurch? I'm going to hazard a guess that you can't.

Both BMW's (and most any german car) have to be locked from the outside. Even the old bug would unlock itself if you tried to shut the door while locked. The Ranger on the other hand, doesn't have this feature. Locked myself out at the bar a few months back and had to have AAA come unlock it.The 3 can be locked from inside as well.

So what's everyone's opinion on the 10k mile oil change?

Our Jetta says to do it every 10k, but everything I read keeps saying to do it at 5k.

That would get really expensive with synthetic oils and I'd rather not throw money down the drain for no reason.

I don't personally know anyone who changes their daily driver's oil every 5k (I certainly don't, I stick to the handbook's 10k). I still check the level and quality/cleanliness of the oil every couple of weeks though.

sh*t I change my old ass BMW every 7500 and that's with non-synthetic castrol. Most cars nowadays are good for 10k with a good synthetic and a good filter.

It's just kinda off-putting I guess since it costs $75 to change the oil in the Jetta.

What with the inline filter and synthetic oil.

Thanks for the input guys.

Wait, you have a L7 E38?

E23. I've seen pictures of the E38 and the size of it is just mindboggling, the thing is a f*cking legitimate limousine. Mine's basically just the 735i with a significantly higher quality interior.

Hey, have any of you heard what Infiniti is doing to their models? They're replacing all of the letters with Q. bored.gif

Got our new Metallic Slate 2013 Altima 3.5 SL today with black leather interior. biggrin.gif

Got everything except for navigation, which my dad never uses so it doesn't matter.

I find it to be kinda stupid. All of their cars are going to be called Q145421 or something and their SUVs and crossovers to be QX1231231. I wish people would just use names, and not letters and numbers. What would you rather have, the Infiniti Q50 or the Infiniti Skyline?

What happened to the front? Was it like that or did they have accident during the photo shoot?

I don't much like the grill(though that may change either when I see the actual car or see it in person a few months from now) but the headlamps look cool, put off a fierce look.

There are good reasons for the new naming conventions for the Infiniti lineup.

From the president of Infiniti:

Dear Infiniti fans: We love you dearly. And we know you love the brand. Which means it’s only natural that you may feel surprised by the announcement that we plan to change our nomenclature philosophy. No one likes change.

It was a tough decision. We like our current model names as much as you do. But we had no choice but to change. Let me explain.

1. We are embarking on a massive product offensive, and these new cars need names. There are no suitable combinations of Alphanumeric naming options remaining that are not already trademarked by another automaker. In order to expand our line up with the fascinating new models we are developing, we must create a more flexible nomenclature philosophy.

2. Our new advanced technology engines under development will be smaller, lighter, more fuel efficient yet more powerful. And we will introduce some exhilarating performance machines in the future. I’m sure you will agree, it would be a bit odd to have a powerful, luxurious and refined V8 powered Infiniti M56, then position a new high-tech 550+ horsepower performance flagship for the Infiniti M range above it, using a potent charged induction V6, but then call it Infiniti M30, which we would be obliged to do, following our current naming logic.

3. Infiniti is becoming a global brand now. We are already active in almost 50 countries, the majority only very recently. Our new customers are unfamiliar with the brand and struggle to understand our range hierarchy. Is a JX above or below an FX? Where does an EX fit? What is the relationship between G and Infiniti M? Research confirms the majority of newcomers to our brand consider the naming to be somewhat arbitrary and confusing.

4. Infiniti owns the naming assets of Q plus double digit, and QX plus double digit. And it is a permanent part of our heritage.

So the solution is pretty straightforward – use Q for cars, QX for crossovers, and double digits in increments of ten, to denote hierarchy, linked to the price point of the model, not size and not engine displacement. And no, we wont call all-wheel drive models Q50X or QX50X. The fact that a model may feature four-wheel drive will be indicated by specific badging describing this feature on the car and is not part of the model name.

The really exciting implication of all this is that it prepares the way for the introduction of several fascinating new models above and below the current line up, and a wider range of powertrains including some truly stunning performance cars in our future.

So there is only good news for all Infiniti fans around the globe. We are working very hard to bring you great products, a great brand and a compelling ownership experience. And we are really confident you will love the new Q50. It’s simply that good.

Warmest regards,

Johan de Nysschen

President

Finally a 2014 car that doesn't look like a f*ck up.

The 2014 Infiniti Q50(why dafuq couldn't they just call it the G50?)

Where's a car that doesn't look like a f*ck-up?

Is it behind that plastic thing that has been put in the stove?

sigh.gif Typical you...

Typical you to like a car that looks like someone just sh*t it out. dozingoff.gif

But yes, "typical me" to disagree. rolleyes.gif

I usually think most modern cars look good (yes, my standards are quite low) but I am not liking this new Infiniti at all.

Many different types of ugly cars.

I like many cars as well, even some ugly ones, but ugly and with character or originality, not "Let's take last years model and overheat it" ugly. wink.gif

I don't get the whole angled grill sh*t all the new jap cars are doing. It's weird. I actually liked the way the old Q45/M45/G35/etc looked. This one's kinda meh.
