The S Class looks better than the Maybach imho.

The Maybach just looks boring and luxury, the S Class looks more exciting and I don't know: When I get into one it feels like you're special when you're not lol.gif

So the one year plan on my Bonneville finally fell to sh*t today tounge.gif She was a strong runner, but now she's needing new gaskets, tons of suspension work, and new tires from me getting that bitch sideways inlove.gif It's a shame she has to go, but I don't wanna drop $3000 on a rusty Pontiac tounge.gif

So now I need to get a new vehicle. Stick, at least 20 MPG, and under $5000; so maybe a Ford Ranger?

Don't go for a ranger. Hard to get 20 unless you're in a 4 cylinder. I drove the ole 2.3 today and I forgot how f*cking cramped it really was for someone our size. It's not much roomier than a miata in all honesty.

At your price range, I'd go for an E36 328is. Fast, well equipped, roomy-ish enough for big people, 20 mpg all day long. Can find them at junkyards nowadays so you can get around most of the expensive parts that way.

You could probably find an nice E30 325is in that range and have money left over for suspension/wheels/tires.

BMW's are a bitch up here in Wisconsin, any decent one would be over 4500 or more, and would require some sort of preventive maintenance. Sadly, Wisco ain't full of BMW parts, and the only local junkyard specializes in Domestics. If I went with the Ranger, I'd go 4 cylinder and 5 speed, or the OHV 2.3 for sh*ts and gigs. I've also been looking at Dakota's or even a FWD caddy (forgetting MPG that is).

I found a sh*t ton of decent ones in the 3500 range on the milwakee CL. Not sure where you live but it seemed to have a better selection than my own local CL.

From someone that drives a ranger, unless it's an extended cab, you're going to feel like you're jammed in a tin can. And most extended cabs won't be 4 bangers.

Looks great, you can tell Subaru and Toyota have put a lot of effort into this car. I don't know why they decided to put such Halfords-looking wheels on it though lol.

Triple Penetration

I thought Illousion might want to check this out

It has quite an amazing range of cars. It had a self made hot rod made out of an old russian truck too.

P.S. Check the Firebird.

Real cool. The '54 Styleline, '67 Riviera and the '74 Le Sabre are my top picks. icon14.gif

Ok, I've decided to be a nice boy, and not do an engine swap on the 316i that I want to buy.

I am however looking for some youngtimer runabout for Poland, and thought about BMW E32 750i or an E34 525i. Quite hard to get the E32 in good nick under $3000, but possible. What do you guys think?

750 would rape you in everway possible. I like 735's in the 5 speed flavor (very rare here in the US). M30B35's are amazing. Good flat torque curve and they'll outlast any other BMW engine. Though they're a bit on the thirsty side for Euro fuel prices. I've driven my friends 5 speed pre-VANOS M50 525i E34. It's slower than my 535i but not horribly slow by any means. If you've done your Bimmer research, I assume you know to stay away from the automatics.

750i I reckon you'd probably see about 18mpg combined. I've had more than that out of a car over the course of a days run-what-ya-brung drag racing before.

I know, the 750 is not a cheap to run car, but I always wanted one.

About the automatics - I know, I'd rather have a manual.

My granddad had a 525i 12V (170hp), and it wasn't too bad, so I guess the 24V model with 22hp extra is not too shabby.

Still considering a W124 300CE though... They go around for similar money.

About the manual 735i - not that rare in Poland. Quite common actually, since the auto gearbox was extra $2500 at the time.

I get up to 18 (US) combined out of my M30. Sometimes 16-17. I'd guess a 750 will see 12-13 combined. Most likely single digit urban figures.

I looked a bit for a good M20 E34 a bit a couple months back. I'd rather have one, personally over a later 24 valve car. All US 2.5s are 170 hp regardless of M20, M50, M52, M54, etc. I thing the M20 is the most durable and has the best torque curve. Lighter, too. I don't like that it has a timing belt, though. And mechanical lifters mean valve adjustments.

Yeah, I guess it ain't too bad. There's always the 530i and 535i option. These go for a little bit more, but still, ain't too expensive to buy.

I wouldn't get a 530. Early V8 cars can have their fair share of problems. The 535 is my personal favorite straight 6 E34, but that M30 is still a gas hog. 2.5 M20 or m50 cars would be a lot better in that area and still wouldn't be horribly slow like a 520i.

If you get a VANOS M50 car, keep up your oil changes religiously. VVT units are always picky about that stuff.

Realistically, I think a 525i will be the best thing you can afford insurance and gas on in Europe. At that point I'd probably rather have a 2.5 E30 or E36.

Actually for comparison sake, can you get insurance quotes on the whole E32 line, the whole E34 line (525's from different years since there's M20, and M50s with vanos and no vanos), the whole e36 line, and late E30's? I'd be curious to see how everything stacks up.

Ok. It took some time, but here it goes.

E30 316i - 1224 PLN per year (approx. $390)

E30 318is - 1366 PLN per year (approx. $435)

E30 320i - 1421 PLN per year (approx. $450)

E30 325i - 1509 PLN per year (approx. $480

(Didn't even bother to look up the smaller engines)

E36 320i - 1453 PLN per year (approx. $460)

E36 325i - 1510 PLN per year (approx. $480)

E36 328i - 1595 PLN per year (approx. $500)

E36 M3 3.2 321hp - 2845 PLN per year (approx. $900)

E34 525i - 1506 PLN per year (approx. $480) - 192hp one exactly the same

E34 530i V8 - 1615 PLN per year (approx $510) - Straight-six exactly the same

E34 535i - 1695 PLN per year (approx. $540)

E34 540i - 1765 PLN per year (approx. $560)

E34 M5 3.8 335HP - 2958 PLN per year (approx. $950)

E32 735i - 1710 PLN per year (approx. $550)

E32 750i - 1799 PLN per year (approx. $570)

If everything's more or less the same price for any given engine size, I'd get what's in the lightest chassis. E30 for 170 hp 2.5 stuff, E36 for 190+ hp 2.5 and 2.8 stuff. E34 for 3.5 stuff. No point getting a slower, thirstier car (unless you gotta have wood trim of the 7er). They're all plenty roomy (though E30's are probably the worse there) and decently equipped (really not much difference at all, interior-wise, between an E34 and E36).

But how cool does a 7er look compared to a 5er or a 3er? wink.gif

That is assuming that you manage to find one that isn't ropey as f*ck.

The average vehicle age in Poland is 15 years, so it's not too hard to find 20+ year old cars in good condition. And they don't cost a fortune either.

The logical reasoning is that when something goes wrong in one of those top-tier Bavarian-mobiles you get two options: pay a LOT of money, even for rather simple fixes or sell the car for parts and such. God forbid you opt for a V12 model.

If everything goes right you get one hell of a car, but those IFs are like playing Russian Roulette.

Here is a video guide. Maybe they are not being super analytical, but it's fun.

I'll be honest, Poland's a country of tricksters and swindlers. It's very easy to find parts for these cars that are substitues to the BMW parts on auction sites, local mechanics or even scrapyards.

For comparison's sake, a full M30B35 engine that's got under 100,000 miles is up for sale for $250 right now. That's not too expensive now, isn't it?

So, the polar opposite of any Polish car anywhere else in Europe, which is invariably a mess of gaffer tape and crap welding?

Pretty much, yeah. Like you'll find some rotten stuff, but that would be about twice as cheap.

There are E32s out there, 730i, poverty specs for $450, but I don't want to look at that stuff at all.
