Gonna start going to the same place with a few mates at night and start drifting/J-turning and stuff. A quick question, any idea how much a sub woofer would effect acceleration?

How fantastically chavtastic. Nothing like going down to a local car park blasting out rap on an oversized sound system and doing doughnuts and generally being a nuisance.

Is this your Clio?

I'm joking by the way, no offence intended.

You may have a hard time drifting in a fwd car ochy. Skidding, I guess.

Yeah I looked into it, apparently it's really, really hard to do in a fwd car blush.gif

@Cursed

Lol there's not much else to do in my town at night. Can't really drive anywhere out of it at night without the risk of getting pulled or hitting an animal. I save my longer trips for the day time when it's easier to cruise along on the back roads.

Nobody said it's easy, but it's possible.

Takes some serious power to be able to drag the backwheels around like that. I hate this arguement though. Some say thats drifting but whenever I see a fwd car drifting its just skidding. Others will say otherwise though.

friendly luggage

It's all about the McDonald's trays under the rear wheels with the handbrake on tounge.gif

Looks more bad ass with black wheels. I wish I could get a set of wheels but I've had no luck getting a job yet (or even an interview for that matter) and college work takes up a lot of time. I'm really nervous about driving now because I haven't driven since I passed my test. On the weekend I could've driven an old 90's scooby round a small rally style course but chickened out and went as a passenger instead. I really regret that now but it was fun. Going 40mph sideways on dirt felt pretty fast considering the car looked slow from the outside.

Yeah, can't really call dragging the back wheels as "drifting."

Okay, so then explain to me how you would drift in a fwd.

They were dragging about half the time to keep the rear out. Props to the driver.

Um, you wouldn't?

Good lord. What a f*cking stupid question.

He wasn't bashing the driver. He's just saying it's not really drifting if it's a FWD car, it's just skidding. Different techniques are used, and the same forces applied to drift a RWD or AWD car don't work in a FWD car, so it's not the same.

You bash on the driver but I'd like to see you try to slide like that in your old P.O.S. bucket.

It's basically a glorified version of the old tray trick. That civic is running near donut sized skinnies on the back to have the least amount of sh*t to drag around. I'm just not that impressed. I'd rather push than pull.

And what exactly are you driving again? A f*cking NA Eclipse? I'd bet my old bucket is getting sideways a lot more than your turd. Or do you have this art of fwd drifting down to a T, man?

LOL. You don't drift in a FWD!

Signature soon.

This is the exact arguement I was talking about.

I don't see it as drifting, it's skidding, or dragging. I hate this arguement cause I have friends with fwd cars and they like to e brake and call it drifting.

The materials of the interior look really high quality. But everything going on, it's too much for me. I don't dig the whole rolling spaceship thing. I like swathes of leather and alcantara, but I'd like it more car-like please.

And the outside is really ugly.

I thought BMW was supposed to be the Ultimate Driving Machine, not the Ultimate Hatchback.

Damn, is there a high grossing manufacturer that hasn't entered the econobox/hatchback/crossover craze yet?

Isn't the entire point of a "classy" vehicle that it sacrifices things like economy just to have that presence, make the statement of I'm not concerned about fuel economy, I have the money to blow on the vehicle and to keep it going. That's why people love the big Cadillacs like the DTS and Escalade.

That... Thing, to me, looks ricey as f*ck inside and out. The body lines don't stand out from anything being made by Toyota and the like, while the odd combination of tossed together and mirrored shapes just screams spaceship ricer. It looks like a f*cking Alienware.

The segment is reasonably successful in Europe, Mercedes already has the A and B class, Audi has the A1 and A3. The BMW 1 series is too small to compete with these cars properly (I suppose maybe the Audi A1 to an extent) so BMW might stand to benefit from this car. Apart from the interior, the styling is realistic and at least looks better than the B class (pictured).

The overlap between typical BMW buyers and people looking for a practical family hatchback is debatable though, and they will need to market the car properly.

By the way, I hate BMW's silly marketing names like "Personal Activity Sedan" and "Concept Active Tourer." Just call them what they are: an estate and a family hatchback respectively, if the car is good it will sell no matter what preconceptions people have about the segment.

The 1-series is about A3 sized. The car they're demonstrating looks more like the Lexus CT200H or the Volvo V40- a mid-sized luxury hatchback.

@Burb: Trust me if I could get an LS engine I would. Maybe they're more common near you guys but in the middle of new jersey your best bet is buying a camaro or firebird and thats alot of money.

If you can't find an LS within 50 miles of where you are, you have no idea what the f*ck you're doing.

So McLaren have revealed their new P1.

Side skirts and that stupidly huge diffuser means I can believe the claims it shattered the Silverstone record, it's designed like a race car thoroughly. The styling needs to grow on me mind. Hopefully the production derivative will look better in the flesh.

It reminds me a bit of the Evora, as did the MP4-12C. Looks fantastic, though.

I'd be willing to put up with the ugly in something like this so long as it's stupid fast (i.e. Enzo, Gumpert, and plenty of other supercars made in the past decade). Form following function.

Certain bits remind me of a Mazda Furai.

We live in different areas. Around here you find half built blown up LS's sometimes. Why do you think I don't have one?

I look on craigslist, ebay and around my town(junk yards and friends). What else can I do?

Once I get my car, thinking about welding the diff. I hear they make the car alot of fun. (and dangerous)

You live in the middle of Jersey, I live on the east side of PA, between Philly and Jersey, not really that far off, unless you will only buy an engine which is within walking distance from your house.

Why do you think I don't have one?

Because you have no idea what the f*ck you're doing.

@Mclaren's P1, that profile pic gives me a Koenigsegg vibe not seen in the other angles.

Didn't this guy's brother just buy a Camaro/Firebird cheap as chips just for the LS/T56 a couple weeks back making this whole argument moot?
