What color are speacial crates?

The crate is the same green box with the ? mark, but the smoke is yellow. You will get a warning in game in yellow text telling you a special crate drop is coming.

Just a heads up, when you arrive at the special crate take out the other player/players if they're near you. Some of the special crates for whatever reason are hard as hell to open. Last night I was shooting one for about 10 seconds before it opened.

Yeah, usually it's easy, but I had a couple that were a pain in the a**. I don't know if it's a glitch or whatever.

Man,.. why couldn't R* have just implemented these hats/ shirt in the game in some other non-glitchy way? The bitch'n dog food, vinyl countdown and homies sharp tees were very smoothly implemented, yet still limited and exclusive. Oh well,.

You dont see them on the map till they drop. You should get messages written in yellow on the side such as "crate drop in xx hours" till you get "a crate has been dropped", then a small green box icon will appear randomly on the map

Anyone know if crates spawn if you're the only one in a public lobby?

If you got the message while there were more people in session and than they all left the crate should drop as long as you wait till the crate is droped before entering green area.

I actually JUST opened a crate, another of my crew started yelling through the mic

"YOU DON'T DESERVE THIS, I'M DONE WITH THIS CREW YOU'RE ALL ASSHOLES" Christ it's just a crate. Also is it just me or does the yellow hat remind anyone of a builder's hat?

If you enter a session and you see the green "circle" with a player inside just leave the session, don't waste your time. Special crate drops have no green "circle" before they come. You get the warning in yellow text and then after you see "3 hours" a few minutes later it will say the crate was dropped.

Wrong. Right when the crate is due to drop there is a green circle. I've got a handful of special crates, 2 today in fact.

Can confirm you need to pick up a crate and/or special crate with the character you are getting the hat for. I tried 4 times with my lvl 90 male who has never touched a crate. Tried once with my level 273 female who has picked up a special crate and ended up with the Benedict Beer Hat.

 

Pretty annoyed though because I want the beer hats for my male not her, but I can't have my cake and eat it too.

 

Oh and I'm on Xbox.

So happy guys I haven't felt this kind of accomplishment ever (I keep my goals low)
Now, time to test this glitch out for all of us -- to see its needed, that you at least need to have captured 1 Special Crate in you characters life span

I got two normal crates and I'm yet to even see the notification for a speacial crate

So crates only spawn after a mission? What mission? I have seen only like 3 crate drops in my playtime and I think it was one of those patch weekends with x2 cash/rp. Have never seen them ever since that patch.
