Using method 2 step by step, I am getting a small amount of rp each time but so far no hats or shirts, my secondary character is male and I've been trying for 2 days, it may require my secondary character be female :-/

You need to grab a legit special crate then you will be good to redo the glitch.

Yes. If you have only gotten the call from Ron about the crates, you wilk see green circles but nothing will drop. If you do this mission it will trigger the crate drops and you can actually collect them

 

I've gotten the call from Ron about the creates and my status says it's unlocked and it says create dropping in x minuets and i'm the first to arrive to the drop off and only the red flare is there and no create?

exactly, thats why you need to play satellite communications so they actually drop. I had the same problem, I got the call but nothing would drop. I played satellite communications and 5 minutes later i got a special crate

This is not correct at all... I've played that mission multiple times on both of my characters and still just get green circles at times.

 

If you see a green circle that isn't replaced by a crate around 2 real life minutes later, that means that that particular server has been "glitched." That green circle will remain there forever and a crate will not drop, presumably until the server is completely empty and "resets" itself. This is why, when you see that green circle, you don't see Simeon cars, Armored Cars and I'm guessing the new Lester Targets... These three events (and possibly the new Lester Targets) run on a cycle. If one event is happening, the other two aren't.

 

This is why when you pull out of your garage and see that Crate notification, 9 out of 10 times, it doesn't drop. The other time that it does drop was just good timing of getting in the room. In all likelihood, those messages appear while the room has been glitched long ago. I have went into rooms, got the message, saw it was glitched, left the room and come back to the room half an hour later, getting the same message and the same crate location still highlighted in green and still not dropping.

 

I'm pretty sure that, to unlock the crates, you simply need to do a mission from Trevor. doesn't matter which mission, doesn't even matter if you succeed... Once you get that message, crates are unlocked.

If you go into the green circle before the drop, it won't drop, resulting in the "glitch" that I described above. Sometimes, it can happen even if you simply set a waypoint that goes into that circle...

 

TL/DR: if you go into a room, see a green circle and it doesn't drop within two real life minutes (maybe wait three, just to be sure) it isn't gonna drop at all. If you see the green circle, stay out of it and don't set a waypoint into it, or you risk glitching it.

Yeah the circles are glitchy but it has nothing to do with Satellite Communications (by the way its more like 10 minutes than 2 minutes) Special Crate drops dont even come in green circles, you only see them appear randomly at the last second when they drop. Satellite Communications actually triggers your character to see the special crate drops, go do some research man. Ive never seen a special crate drop in my entire life, but as soon as I played Satellite Communications I got one no more than 5 minutes later and another one 30 minutes after. Seriously youre getting really annoying "Bill", go somewhere else

lol, I actually did this by accident! I had cleared my cache (R* advised me to do this because I have an issue with a missing hairstyle for my female second character). After I reinstalled, I went to the barber with my second, confirm that the hairstyle is still not there, then switched to my male first and got the message:

 

"Crate Contents: Patriot Beer Hat"

 

when I entered the session. Promtly went to the clothes store, and sure enough, there it was. BTW, I had collected special crates with my first character previously, but not with my second.

 

Now the question is; will I get to redo this and get a beer hat for my second even if she hasn't picked up a special crate?

Will a normal crate suffice for a special crate or no? I finally managed to pick a normal crate up, my first ever on my male character.

Not sure you can try if it doesnt work youll need to get a special one

NEW REQUIREMENTS FOR PS3 METHOD 2

 

Finally got it to work after 2 days, so I am coming up with a list of requirements for the glitch to work that I gathered with my experience over these past 2 days to help people that are having trouble like I was.

 

-Must have gotten the call from Ron about crate drops AND after that have played the Satellite Communications mission as this mission will allow the crate drops to actually trigger and give you the special crate drop messages.

 

-Must sign in to account before loading up the game once you open back up your ps3 (if on auto sign in just wait to see "signed in" then start up GTA 5)

 

-Must have collected a special crate drop on your main character. This is 99.9% sure and I STRONGLY recommend so as it should guarantee that the glitch will work and is probably the most important requirement. After I collected a special crate drop I this glitch has worked perfectly. If you can absolutly not get a special crate (even though it shouldnt be as hard now that you played Satellite Communications), try to get a normal crate as that may work too.

 

Other factors that may help the glitch work perfectly:

 

-Preferably not have spawn location in apartement or garage.

 

-Preferably have a male character as your main (slot 1) and a female as the one you dont want the hat on (slot 2)

 

Share this so OP can see it and put it on the 1st page and save a lot trouble for everyone

Are you SERIOUS? I just got my second special crate and this time I got NOTHING. Just RP, Cash and a Minigun. I already have a patriot beer hat from an earlier crate but seriously, I just fought off guys both in the air and on land to get this crate and I get nothing?!

XBOX 360

 

1. Load up PLAYER 1

2. Delete PLAYER 2.

3. Create PLAYER 2 as a female.

4. Switch to PLAYER 1

5. Switch back to PLAYER 2

6. Leave GTA Online

7. Press the guide button, go to System Settings

8. Delete Independence day DLC

9. Load GTA V, on loading screen press A to go Online

10. Download Independence day DLC again.

11 Once downloaded you should be on PLAYER 2

12. Swap to Player 1. you should now have a beer hat.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

 

Repeat again (You have to delete your player 2 and make a female character again each time you do it.)

 

After 2 to 3 days I have finally done it on xbox.

Ever since I got my first special crate, I'm 3 for 3 when doing this method.

 

If I keep getting duplicate items, do I keep going until I get an item that I don't own yet?

Yes, It just tells you what type of beer hat you unlock but if you already have it there isn't anything you can do.

Yes, I was getting duplicates of Pisswasser, Patriot and Supa Wet for a while. Messed around for half an hour then tried again. Got the Benedict and Statue of Happiness Shirt first two tries. Edited July 4, 2014 by .DJS.

Just a heads up, when you arrive at the special crate take out the other player/players if they're near you. Some of the special crates for whatever reason are hard as hell to open. Last night I was shooting one for about 10 seconds before it opened.
