Yeah that's where i deleted it from...I made a typo i meant the GUS but in my Game Utility i only had that one "Install" nothing else and it was suppose to say 8400MB not GB

That's the game install... It'll reinstall the entire game now...

 

Should be a second file in there, unless you have the digital version, perhaps...?

 

After the second method coming out, I'm not so sure that you need to delete anything anyway... That was just what I did, trying to copy the OP's instructions. I've used both presented methods and gotten a hat each way... But, it's not consistent and I can't get it to work for my male character, now that I have a complete set on my female character.

 

Been playing a lot tonight, switching sessions... Haven't seen a Special Crate Drop yet.

 

I'm starting to think that it might work a bit better after the event weekend is over... The crates containing the items are gonna be around until the Independence DLC is over, which they said middle of July... I seemingly had little to no trouble until around midnight, EST, when the event "technically" started... Just a theory, though...

NEW REQUIREMENTS FOR PS3 METHOD 2

 

Finally got it to work after 2 days, so I am coming up with a list of requirements for the glitch to work that I gathered with my experience over these past 2 days to help people that are having trouble like I was.

 

-Must have gotten the call from Ron about crate drops AND after that have played the Satellite Communications mission as this mission will allow the crate drops to actually trigger and give you the special crate drop messages.

 

-Must sign in to account before loading up the game once you open back up your ps3 (if on auto sign in just wait to see "signed in" then start up GTA 5)

 

-Must have collected a special crate drop on your main character. This is 99.9% sure and I STRONGLY recommend so as it should guarantee that the glitch will work and is probably the most important requirement. After I collected a special crate drop this glitch has worked perfectly.

 

Other factors that may help the glitch work perfectly:

 

-Preferably not have spawn location in apartement or garage.

 

-Preferably have a male character as your main (slot 1) and a female as the one you dont want the hat on (slot 2)

I have my chars set up this way, but got them on my female... That's the first char I tried with, as well.

Worked for me right now on PS3. Fennimoe's method.

Just make the second character female . it works for me . Good Luck

Explanations regarding the 1st requirement:

Why do you guys think people that werent able to get it to work were still getting RP? The glitch is theoritacally that you get a special crate drop without actually getting a real one on the map (Notice how when you do the glitch at the bottom of the screen it says "crate contents:_______"?). When you get a crate, you always get a bit of RP. So when these people wouldnt get the hats all they would get is the RP from the crate and no crate content message. Now why is that? Because they dont yet have the ability to trigger or collect crate drops, even though they have already unlocked them (by doing a mission for trevor and getting the call from Ron). Once they complete Satellite Communications they will unlock this ability and now be able to get the crate messages, thus allowing the glitch to work

 

Note: I believe actually having collected a special crate drop may have a role in all this and may be what allows the "crate contents:______" message to show up and to actually get a beer hat/t shirt

I got lucky and got one special crate. They seem to be dropping tonight, but the last couple days they weren't doing squat. I got the patriot hat from the drop and I feel getting one special crate is enough so I'm glitching it. The 2nd PS3 method worked perfectly and I got two of the other hats. First time I did it I got a message saying I received a hat. Second time no message. The third and fourth time no message and no hat. Should I still keep doing it to get the last hat? Also how would I get the shirt? Crate only?

I fixed it. This is just to help other people, why are you going out of your way to find all the errors or possible factors that arent 100% confirmed? Knowing people were just going to criticise I should have just not posted this and let you guys figure it out yourselves.

After i picked up my first special crate ever, i got lucky and got a patriot beer hat legit from a special crate

 

THEN i decided to try the xbox glitch again and it gave me a new hat, so i think you need to have at least opened a special crate at some point in time on your GTA characters to get it to work as previously this didnt work at all for me on any of my 2 characters, one is 100 and the other 273. but after opening my first ever special crate it worked, something to think about for those of which this is not working for.

Are you sure you arent missing a step or doing it wrong? Maybe try taking the hat you already have off. Go see the requirements and factors I posted above. And are you still getting RP when doing it? If not it means you simply arent doing it right

Ask way to many questions. Next time just assume the person knows what hes doing. Its acting the same way it did both the other times it worked except i didn't receive a new hat or shirt.

If you can absolutly not get a special crate (even though it shouldnt be as hard now that you played Satellite Communications), try to get a normal crate as that may work too.
