Okay guys i may have found out a way to get free beer hats. Seeing that people randomly got the hat after switching their character, i wanted to try some testing and it worked! Here it is   XBOX

OK, I can confirm that this does work on PS3... Here's exactly what I did:   Starting on the character you don't want the hat for, go back to story mode (Leave GTA Online) and quit the game.   Kic

To people on 360:

 

Can you tell us what your character was wearing?

 

Shoes

Top

Bottoms

Head

etc

Lola was wearing one of the independence day complete outfits with the stars on her head, star glasses, tailcoat, skirt and white heels

I did it and got 3 hats (Xbox) and now Ive tried it three more times and havent got anything else. I dont know whats wrong

Can you tell me what character slot you were using and what your character was wearing?

So far I have 2 hats and the off shoulder top, which is all I really wanted, trying a couple more times though

 

Edit: Lola was in slot 1 and getting the gear, slot 2 used for the delete part

Thx for helping so quickly. I had that annoying glitch that wouldn't let me unlock Ron.

 

Back on topic. Maybe those who succeeded can post what they were wearing and what location they were at or any other small details that they did to make it work. Like garage or apt. Wearing specific hat. Wearing vest or tshirt. Or free aim or auto aim. Maybe comparing that info might help those of is who can't get it to work.

Would like to get some answers on all these questions too. So far I've had no success trying several methods on PS3.

There's much much easier way of doing it, I found it by accident, I tried and tested and it'll work %90 of the time, but it'll only work for character slot 1.

I don't normally condone glitching, but crate drops are so bugged they are impossible to get for some people.

 

1) Load up the character slot 1.

2) Swap character (you must do this while Online, don't go back into Single Player).

3) Buy something (a snack, gun tint or just change clothes). [This step may not be necessary]

4) Drive your into LSC and repair your vehicle.

5) Drive out and wait for the save icon.

6) Switch back to the character you want the item on (you must do this while Online, don't go back into Single Player).

7) You should see the crate item notification, if not, just do it again.

This doesn't work for me, neither do the other two methods. idk what I'm doing wrong. Maybe something to do with what your spawn location is

Ive done all the methods, step by step. Nothing. Even switched to make my unused avatar get the hat but didnt work. In all the reboots, I finally saw "Event" when starting the game so maybe the gold crates will drop more often. I can only hope.

My main man level 185 is in slot 2 on ps3 and I made a new one today level 3 for this glitch to work. I wore an eagle mask at the time. Hope this helps.

Yeah my main character is 155 and my second is level 8, so I have done the mission for my first character and for my second I have not. Do you have to have the mission done on both characters in order for this to work? @rejex (Xbox)

Nah I tried back to back. Haven't turned off my Xbox. I have gotten a special crate in the past with the LS Belle Shirt inside. Two out of the three times the character I was trying to give it to was wearing an independence hat. I then took it off and made him wear a suit from the high life update and it still didn't work :( Edited by Biohazard Abyss

Hold up for anybody who this works for on xbox...is your GTA 5 installed on your harddrive and when loading up the screen do you see the event? (Press y to join event) thing

Its not 100% because it doesnt work for me.

 

 

Well, you did something wrong. This is proven by all of my buddies now. I wouldn't have posted it if it didn't work.

Please can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong: my first slot is a level 155 (the guy I want the hat on)my second character is level 8. My first character has crates unlocked but my second character doesnt. Anyways, I switch from first character to my second, from there I dashboard and delete the independence DLC, then I load up gta 5 and while on the loading screen I pressed A to load up online, I got the message saying I have to redownload the DLC, so I did, spawned in as my second character and switched to my primary character and still

Nothing

Please help I'm on the xbox!

I got 2 hats, Red then green, then the T-Shirt. Thanks OP, saved me suffering public lobbies for a crate
