That they're like superLOD's in GTA i assume, there isn't as much detail as GTA usually has on ground level.

Yes, but Flight Simulator doesn't involve a player actually cruising on the map surface(runways/aiports being the biggest exception ofcourse!)

This is GTA, everything has to be screaming with detail, in the skies and on ground level!

Although, your idea can be taken into consideration anyway

Maybe those can be used on bigger surfaces where no roads, etc are, so they're only visible from a certain distance (except you're going offroading through a dense forest).

No, i am talking about ground level. You can get with this technique a good graphic, even if you are close to the tree. You can't note the difference between a standard tree and a 4-poly tree until that are less than 0,5 mile away from the character. It is good for the player eyes, too, because a standard tree seen from far looks pixelated, different from 4-poly one that is a clean view from far, as you look at the Flight Sim image.

Maybe those can be used on bigger surfaces where no roads, etc are, so they're only visible from a certain distance (except you're going offroading through a dense forest).

That is my point here. That technique is perfect if you want to fill a mountain top, but it is not as good if you plan to put a 4 polygon tree at the road side.

At this case, best ones still are the high detailed ones, but very low poly trees are certainly the best option for far. It is a good idea. Gostown used that for the trees seen from far, and you playing it can't even differ what is a standard model from near or a texturized one from far. I just noted when i was developing a server for Gostown6MP, that dont have any tree on it, but you still can see the tree textures from far.

Anyway, that is my suggestion. Again, i deserve all the luck for the project and i hope the map remake works. Dont give up at the first problem. When everything is running as planned, it is easy, but passing by the hard moments, persisting and keep walking when something stucks your mod, as called on the business language "bottlenecks", is what differ boys from real mens.

I started some interior work for some of the buildings in Liberty City... in order to get myself more handy with modeling, i started with a more simple interior of 24/7!

The idea is kind of sourced from GTA V because you can rob those stores in it...

Here's a current progress's picture of the development of the interior:

Looks nice, man! My only problem with it is the bottom where it has the 24/7 logo and all. It doesn't seem to fit, in my opinion.

I probably won't change the 24/7 logo thing above the entrance because that's how it was done by R*!

I was thinking about this not so long ago. How it would be great if the surrounding was the rest of Liberty State. I think that with GTA IV, this is going to really play up the game as I tried out route 66 map, and it just grinded my game to a halt. And that was only half of what the size of this map is (unless it is due to it being a badly optimised map mod) Compared to map extensions like Clockwork Mount, that doesn't really reduce my frames and I don't have any more texture loss than with just the original map by itself. I personally think it will be far safer to leave this mod until GTA V. Probably by the time that someone has ported Liberty City over to GTA V once it is released and has become modifiable, then if you spend as much time as you are able to each week to get better, then you should be ready for the challenge to produce a very nice, well thought out map addition. Heck you don't need to use even a half of the map boundary size, just do as much as you can do in quality and you just keep adding on as you go, part by part at a time.

GTA-V-GTA-IV-Map-Comparison.jpg

In real life, New York City is on the on the coastline, so Liberty City should be exactly that. I feel that the south side should be on the coast because of multiple reasons. First off, Happiness Island. The second reason, like what has been mentioned, that construction site which I totally agree sounds a logical place for Rockstar's new WTC (and of course twin towers back in the day). The third reason, Alderney Ferry Terminal. The south is the way that Ferries are more likely to be going than north.

I would say that the rest of Liberty State should go north of Liberty City, as well as the east and west. northwards should be the main concentration.

Like I have been saying to MenuET, I would love to see Liberty City and Gostown in the same map on GTA V. It would be amazing if we could have Gostown placed further south west of Liberty's south coast. Just imagine going to and from Liberty and Gostown via plane (if you are going without a vehicle and going to use public transport) or car ferries (if you are taking your vehicle with you). That would be simply amazing, that would be so much my preferred map than the GTA V map as I do love Liberty City far more because of what it is based on, New York.

I haven't even played GTA V, but by looking at every video I have watched of the game, I so much prefer the atmosphere of Liberty City. It has that more lively feel like dozens say. And after playing a while of GTA EFLC in multiplayer, what I saw about someone else saying on another topic that the cops try pit maneuvering you rather than ramming you, I can well see that. LCPD is stupid, but then at the same time they are VERY VERY smart!! They seem so much more human and lively than LSPD in GTA V. Hopefully the many things that has been said about GTA V's AI will be different in the PC/PS4/Xbox One release. If not though, likely if many modifications get created to bring back parts of the GTA IV AI into GTA V, GTA V will be a totally better Liberty City, or should I say, Liberty State. Hopefully with the amount of changes in GTA V to GTA IV, the number one being the map size, for the rage engine to be able to cope with that, it must of been enhanced like anything!! Even if it turns into a bad port like GTA IV, I am sure that with Liberty City there instead, the frames you get will be doubled! I certainly can say that with Gostown, the map being considerably smaller, my Mac can cope fairly well playing on 1440p compared to having to drop down to 720p a lot with Liberty City.

Having interiors put into majority of the buildings around the map, it will be simply amazing, and yea, having all the construction sites cleared with the completed projects, that will be awesome. Especially the road works, seriously you guys, you've been building just a patch of roadway since 2007 and you still haven't got anywhere? It took from 2008 to 2010 for my local motorway (freeway/interstate) junction to be redeveloped into a huge junction as so it is right by London LOL. Get to work you lazy builders xD

Even if this map doesn't have any progress for GTA IV, I don't mind, as long as this project takes place with GTA V I'm happy haha :)

I do sure hope that GTA V runs on my Mac as if they can get it running on the same outdated hardware consoles as GTA IV, then surely they can get it out here with the same requirements as GTA IV on PC. I will be a very upset person if my Mac can't run it :L

I highly doubt that, NTA isn't the almighty Jesus Christ to be the only person able to mod a videogame. Stop being so silly.

OpenIV is literally ready for V PC, within weeks of release we'll get the first batch of mods. Plus, russians won't just sit around with arms crossed waiting for everyone to do things. If you're going to suppose things, at least make some sense and for the love of god stop using that huge font for your horrible theory.

SERIOUSLY?? Why the heck did I say "probably by the time that GTA V has been made modifiable and Liberty City gets ported (I bet that will happen quite quick), GTARandom will very likely have much more skills and will be far more ready to do this. I hope I will of learnt to model using 3DS Max by then too as I have a darn few ideas that I want do.

Stop making yourself look like a troll mate and stop talking as so you're the president of the modding community as you're not and even if you were that is not at all very presidential behaviour!

Im just tired of hearing people post on TCs saying to just wait til V comes out and make it using that... like I said, not everyone will have V for PC on release so there will be a limited market for mods until a year or so later... I never said specifically NTA was going to be the only one modding it, I just said NTA's name because right now hes the only one I know who actually has everything ready to mod V except the game itself...

anyway, I never said I am the president of modding nor did I imply it... I am just a modder and game developer with 9 (Going on 10) years experience...

I am speaking on my behalf, and only mine. no one elses...

also I am not in a bad mood, I am just in school right now

The main reason I said that I honestly think that we should wait til gta v to make this mod, GTARandom isn't ready to do something big like this yet, so leaving this particular mod until gta v, that'll give him enough time to get to the stage when he's ready to do a big mod like this.

Sure he can produce what ever he wants for IV, and anything that really adds to GTA IV, I really support it, but for something like this, it's probably just going to render the game unplayable for the vast amount of people because even people with really powerful rigs, still can't manage Route 66 without a lot of issues. What ever it takes, what ever he does to get to that point when he's ready to make Liberty State or any major map, then I say go for it. I honestly feel that once he's got to the stage to do this, it'll be on V rather than IV because that'll be the more stable game most likely to do this on. To make this a quality map, the size it's going to be, that's going to likely take a year or two at least to create. I'm not saying "wait for gta v" for the sake of it just because that's the new thing and gta iv is going to be dead because of it. Heck I'm not holding my hopes up high that I'll even be able to run it because I wasn't even having high hopes if I could run IV when I got it at the beginning of last year.

If GTARandom chooses to create this on iv or v, that's up to him, and I support which ever he chooses, but for something this huge, especially that he's admitted he isn't ready for, this is why I suggested to wait for gta v.

I'm sorry that you're so fed up with people saying "oh wait for gta v". I'm not telling him to am I? I'm just suggesting that after what he's said that gta v will likely be best one because he's not currently ready for something this big, and two the map boundary limits.

If he decides to do for gta iv anyway that's fine, he's got every right to. Even when I'm fed up of people I do not act immature. You may be a modeller, designer or what, you may know a lot more than us etc etc, but when it comes to being mature when you comment, don't make yourself look like a little kid next time mate.

Guys... Please... What is the point about this discussion? We really know that fact (GTAIV or V) doesn't matter. Let's not flood the topic with a silly discussion.

@GTARandom: About the building interior:

Such a great tutorial how to model a building interior. it also teaches the 3dsMAX essential skills. I learned to model with edit poly with this vid. Way better than making booleans, because now you're modeling well, but try to UVWMap this later. With Edit Poly you have a lot more of control and triangles are aligned properly.

I'd send you more, but unfortunatelly, i only know some in spanish

To my knowledge, NTA has not rewritten any rage resource himself. He is using OpenIV to do that job for him (just like anybody else would). OpenIV has a long history of modding RAGE engine titles, including the research they already done on the console version of GTA5. There was once another dutchman who made a model and collision converter for GTA4, even before OpenIV. But those tools were terrible.

Understand that taken data out of the files is a lot easier than writing your own data that the game can read. I'm no programmer but I know that much. I don't know where Oleg (zmodeler creator) is working on these days but I know we had gta4 vehicle modding pretty quickly. As for OpenIV, they would probably bring map, weapon and character modding first, as those are stored in 'simpler' formats than vehicles

If you guys think i will wait for GTA V to release on current-gen consoles and PC just to start working on this then, you're in for a dissappointment...

Why in the love of God should i wait for that release when i can work on this now and make even more stuff when it is released??? Please people, be rational for a minute here....

Also, i already pre-ordered my GTA V PC copy so i'm already all set, i just need to wait for the game to finally release and the Russians to make the game fully moddable like GTA IV/EFLC is today!

Here's more progress on the supermarket interior:

Note that most of models you see aren't yet fully adjusted and filled with store stuff!

Most of them are models from GTA V itself and so are the textures...
