[WIP|IV] Liberty State

Recommended Posts

Carver City isn't Chicago it's more based on rust belt cities in the upper east coast. Most would say Detroit, but if it's close to Liberty, I'd also wager in Philadelphia or Pittsburgh which are both in the state of Pennsylvania which literally borders most of New York State.

Yeah, Detroit is just a good enough guess as Chicago. Only reason why I'd say that despite the fact that they are close is that the cities them selves are scaled down. For example, the real life Las Angles area is massive compared to Los Santos. Heck the whole GTA V map is a fraction of the size of it. Same applies to LC and NY. Also, in GTA V, when Trevor and Michael reunited, Trevor told him he lives in Sandy Shores which is a few hours from Los Santos. However, we all know that it isn't that far. But the characters in GTA V talk like they are traveling really far when they have to venture across the map, even though it isn't as far as they make out.

But I still wonder what the GTA versions of Chicago, Detroit, Boston, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, St Luis, Washington DC, etc... are called in the GTA universe. We could very well find out in the next one, if they don't decide to do Vice City. I hope they ether do Vice City, or a new city based on Chicago, as its the 3rd largest city in the US, with New York and Las Angles being 1st and 2nd respectively.

6 new images - 5 of them show the new mapped island from Alderney and even Algonquin perspective while the final one shows the unrevealed lost and small sand island:

Doesn't even look like a mod. It looks like it's already in the game. Fits perfectly.

Hah, my thoughts exactly :)

I don't know why, but I imagined ElectroChoc playing, and it fit well with seeing the city in the distance, sort of that approaching the city vibe when you start to get the radio stations kind of thing.

Do you have any ideas on how to connect Alderney to the mountains? You could try redoing that freeway thing so it's like a T-junction whatever you call it. I did a rough sketch for you if think it'll be of use.

I know one way, Rockstar has given me an opportunity to fill in the road where they kind of stopped or cut the map... in the following image you can see how the area is flattened and i beleive it was because, once in the beta version of the map, road would connect the rest of Liberty State from there.

Now, i know it's a bussines road but i could widen it into more lanes and turn it into a main road, but i don't think there's more room for more than 2 lanes or so in each direction, unless i make an overpass kind of road with legs beneath it(i would have to do that anyway if i make a bridge, as for possibility of adding a tunnel there, that's another story).

This is how the encircled area in red looks like in-game:

It's a perfect road connection opportunity, don't you think guys?!

I think that the freeway idea from universetwisters would fit more with the map and its expansion. It would made more sense to have a bridge there rather than remaking an entire part of the map for a little road that would force everyone to quit the freeway.

That and the road that was mentioned is just an access road to the beach. We've got plenty of here in my town.

It doesn't kill the fact that it could be used to connect the old map with the new land that is available, despite whatever R* intended it to be like.

But then how would people drive their cars onto the beach?

Despite all comments being more or less positive so far for the mod, tell me if anyone agrees with this Skype comment i just got:

Be 100% honest with me about the mod, and please no bullsh*tting - i want to know what you REALLY think about it.

I don't want to get too far if it's trashy already, i already done too much if that's the case of it being bad

Also, i don't listen to random people's hatred, but i'm not really enjoying the development TOO MUCH to just enjoy it for myself, i want others to like the developed content too!

Please don't end this project like you did with the Las Venturas one. I wanna see how this one goes.

EDIT: And don't listen to that guy, he's just a spammer.

That's D, he's just a rolling ball of negativity. Just keep trucking on and doing what you're doing.

He was happy with Chris's images though :)

Also, i didn't mean to stop with this(at least not yet), i don't really care what he thinks, i'm just more worried about the honesty of other people, it's better to hear ugliest truth of all than pretty lies which only get you dissappointed in the end.

Yup, 'you can't please everybody' is in order here.

Some dude I know on the skype and stuff. Deep thinker but perpetually down. Used to be triplepenentration here

The project is interesting but I hope the map doesn’t give LC a too claustrophobic feel between the mountains and stuff as other maps do.

By other hand, in my opinion, the mountains would look more New Yorkish with a darker terrain texture. Other map mods which used the same light texture didn't give a too great wilderness sensation.

And last, I briefly read this thread the other day so if it has been already mentioned I may have missed it but, are you planning to add suburban residential areas like the ones that can be found all around NY/NJ?

Carraways will do the trick i guess.

Well, I'm looking forward to see it then. An extension of the suburbs is something I've been wanting forever in IV :^:

And please, consider what I said about the mountains textures. It's something that I always find rather disappointing with IV map mods.

From what I've seen, it's looking great. The mountains are looking great, especially when you see them from a distance because they're always looking down on you like a creeper. It's a cool feeling.

This map is using the grass texture from Middle Park because that's the most 'nature-filled' place i could find in LC, right next to north Alderney bits.

Mountain texture is a modified rock texture from LC as well - in fact, all textures are IV-sourced but some are edited.

I can make it darker, but that might make it too cartoony-lookin' which i dislike far more than this.

By the way, when i was doing terrain blending tests, this is what i came up with xD

I agree, they're far too underdetailed. Edited by Viscacha

Yeah yeah, i hear you loud and clear about the mountain textures, i already made a darker variant of it. There may be another video coming showing it and newly added details to the map.

To me it really feels genuine, especially at night now that i put the lights and barriers in.
