Things GTA IV did better than GTA V

The feeling that you had to put aside all other missions to save Roman in Roman's Sorrow. V's Fresh Meat just felt like a chore because the game guides you through everything.

I didn't actually like this. It doesn't make much sense pulling the charging handle and more rounds magically appear in the magazine.

Niko?

I can't think anything bad about him, he's badass, he's incredibly well written, he lives in the best city and is complimented by the best gameplay, he would be even better if he had fingerless gloves and the beta haircut.

OT: Liberty City to me is a WAY better setting than Lower SA, and really drives home all of the feels.

I love NYC in real life (never been, hope too soon), so this is simply an incredible map in that regard.

It's so atmospheric and lively/depressing at the same time.

It feels like a real place in SO many aspects.

Despite Michael being my favourite GTA V protagonist I have to agree. I didn't care at all for his safety if I'm honest. I felt gutted for Roman that he lost his home and business, but that's just the black and white difference between GTA IV and GTA V.

Basically all of GTA V's events I simply didn't care about whilst GTA IV had me on the edge of my seat wondering what kind of trouble Niko and Roman would get into next.

I bet that whoever made that doesn't care about that because he already knows it.

His wife probably buys sh*t, but you drink the gourmet stuff because when you drink it you want to taste it.

Dynamic shadows exist in V on PC, not sure what you're smoking pal.

They sure do, but the player's (protagonist's) shadow doesn't get casted by other vehicle lights. You should check what you're smoking.

As for the rest of your insipid drivel, I'm away from my computer for the next few days so please afford me a bit of time before I respond to the rest. Not gonna f*ck with this forums AWFUL posting format to dissect your nonsense on my smart phone.

That's pathetic.

When you're trying to break up one quote into multiple quotes on a smart phone, it's a ridiculous amount of trouble because of the auto formatting. I'm not wasting my time dicking with it, I will reply more directly when I'm at a computer.

I remember how some calls during the story would turn into a mission instead of giving you a chance to save first. Not that it's bad thing, but it gives a realistic feel. In real life, you wouldn't want to go back to your home and lay down first if it's something serious.

Well shoot me dead, everyone who's watched Pulp Fiction is racist too.

Or even taken that scene and put it on YouTube! They're all racists!

Btw, I can say whatever I want to say, dude. Just like you can go mercilessly praise V on this thread.

Also, great way of f*cking up my quote, dude.'Owned'.

I find him incredibly boring and hypocritical. He complains about how hypocritical people are but he himself is a hypocrite. He chases a man, that killed for money, because it was the "wrong thing to do". Yet how many people does he kill in the GTA IV story alone?

Hypocritical!!!??!?!!?!?

That's a character trait. He kills yet hates it. It's his human side coming out, which rarely does. He knows he's an awful person.

What am I good at Roman? What is my trait? That's the question that kills him. Knowing damn well he's only good for his ability to be a coid blooded killer.

Niko himself knows he's a hypocrite and Darko calls him out on it. He accepts it, he hates himself for it. Play That Special Someone.

Well that's part of what I don't like about him. I also just don't find him to be a deep character, that apparently many of you do. I could easily tell where his story was going and found it very bland. He is the number 1 reason I'm not a fan of GTA IV but, he's not the only reason.

I didn't see where it was going. How the hell did you predict that Michelle was a fed who'd lead Niko into finding out where Darko was? Granted, I was a youngster in 2008.

Got more ?

Try to take on this one, Michigan. :D

Ok.

As for the rest of you, it's getting really hard to keep up now that you're all trying to dog pile me. If you want me to respond, please make a post like this one so I can come back to it later.

1. For the most part, I agree, and I've said this as well. Michael is written well, as are a few others. I don't consider Niko to be written well, because he comes off as a hypocritical psychopath. One minute he's in a moral conundrum about shooting a single guy, the next he's running down pedestrians while still discussing that very same moral conundrum. That's why a "deep" character like Niko doesn't jive with GTA style game play - when you want to drive on the sidewalk or go on a rampage, it TOTALLY breaks the character, so you see now why Rockstar built that sort of behavior into V's characters - to varying degrees of success.

2. Again, for the most part, I agree. There were times when V's story started to get really good, and it was just dropped. The Martin Madrazo thing could have been a great story arc but it was dropped WAY too soon.

3. Completely disagree. Some people like it, good for them. Even though I eventually got used to it and didn't mind the challenge, to me it completely flew in the face of what GTA was about. You can't deny how much the driving slowed down game play, whether you minded it or not - it DID. For me, that was a NEGATIVE effect on game play, I prefer being able to just haul like a mad man without a small crash costing me 30 seconds of game play to get turned around and headed straight again. I PREFER arcade style driving when it comes to a GTA game. IV is the only game in the series to try such heavy, sluggish driving physics, so it should come as no surprise to anyone that many long time fans of the series were not embracing of it, and it's only logical that Rockstar responded to the feedback - the majority of which condemned IV's driving. What's why they tweaked it for EFLC, of course.

4. I also disagree here, with a caveat; cars in V don't damage easily enough, but when they DO take damage, it looks better. IV's cars literally looked like they were made with aluminum foil. V's cars have more detail in the damage. V's damage modeling is better, overall, it's just much, much harder to damage a car to the point where it really stands out. Another caveat: it pisses me off that the removed roof and side damage just because of FPS mode. FPS mode is neat, but I couldn't care less about it. I would take full damage modeling over FPS mode any day, in a GTA game.

5. Absolutely disagree here. Niko may have some different moves, but V's fighting is more fluid and responsive. Not really sure how that can be argued.

6. Recovering health isn't always a bad thing. In FPS combat games, yeah, it's stupid because it forces you to hide behind rocks when you should be engaging in the action. In a cover-based shooter like V, it fits just fine, and it aids in exploration and fun because you can go dick around, hurt yourself, and just continue on dicking around without having to stop every 5 seconds to take a trip to the store to get health. I really believe that those opposing the regenerating health haven't really thought about how it aides game play, and are merely against it because Jim Sterling or Yahtzee have spoken out against it, in reference to FPS games. Nobody ever complained about regenerating health in Just Cause 2, a game that is constantly held above GTA V on these forums.

7. I rarely, if ever, used special abilities. Not sure how you can knock V for having it, when it's ENTIRELY optional, and doesn't take away any other part of the game in order to exist.

8. Not sure how "one playable character" is supposed to be better than multiple playable characters... but ok? Sure, SWITCH wasn't utilized to great effect in single player story, but its existence doesn't detract from the game in any way, and it gives you more options than having a single playable character. So yeah, disagree here.

9. Faster loading? Is this a joke?

10. Better endings... No, not in my opinion. IV left me feeling very disappointed. I wanted to take down Bulgarin. Dimitri annoyed me, Bulgarin was the "Big Bad" that I wanted to get my hands on. Sorry, Niko! That job is for Luis Lopez! At least V, despite a weaker story, had a satisfying ending... although I'd have preferred a chance to take a shot at Madrazo.

11. Completely disagree. Los Santo's streets are wider, but other than that the city is just as lively, if not moreso than Liberty City. Star Junction is a ghost town compared to just about anywhere in Los Santos (unless you're counting the occasional bug where no traffic spawns).

12. More and better moral decisions... Kill a guy or let him live? Ok, good decision to make, but there are NEVER ANY CONSEQUENCES. The decisions mean nothing apart from some unique dialog. So more, maybe, better? Nah. Not really.

13. Don't know what's wrong with the smart phone in V? Really, I don't. It's a handy sub-menu, with a much better camera and is way more convenient to use than the phone in IV. I really don't know how it can be considered a problem for anybody. So yeah, completely disagree here.
