Things GTA IV did better than GTA V

Recommended Posts

Whiite Devil

Trevor is so pointless. I wouldn't mind him being a secondary character that appear in a few missions and that's it, but him being a protagonist feels so forced, almost as if Rockstar had ran out of ideas and created him to make use of a few one liners that were written for other GTAs but quite didn't fit. Maybe I'm exaggerating, but, being honest now, Trevor's style got old too son for my liking.

Anyways, one of the million reasons that makes GTA IV better than V is Liberty City. It feels more like a city than Los Santos. Somehow every street and building just feels right, and after many years, it still feels good to drive around. Los Santos gets boring really fast, and its surrounding areas are just bland.

Note, that Trevor is not present during first GTA V trailer and this may indicate that he was written much later than Michael and Franklin or that whole story wasn't even done yet.

Niko has better animations for going into cover. GTA V only has one animation.

There are multiple animations for going into cover. If you sprint towards something and press the cover button, Niko will slide over the floor to cover.

In you press the cover button during crouch movement?, Niko does a front roll to it. Not exactly sure.

^Yeah when crouching Niko would do a forward roll

The things Niko says when aiming a gun at someone. EX-You're beginning to annoy me, i suggest you stop. I'm not having a good day.

Maybe it's nostalgia kicking in, or that I've always liked NYC, but Liberty City has an atmosphere to it that LS/Blaine County doesn't have. There's a lot more to take in, even though LC is about 1/3rd the size of Blaine County. The skyscrapers, traffic, and pedestrian interaction. GTA 4 seems to have more "going on," such as pedestrians going about their day, vendors selling food, and workers on telephone poles just to name a few. The atmosphere really pulls you in, and was really overwhelming the first day I played the game, and especially when you unlock Algonquin. GTA V just didn't match that for me, though that isn't to say it's a bad game.

If you don't get what I mean, take a taxi ride across Algonquin. Start from one side of the map and set a waypoint to the other side. Don't skip or fast-travel; just have the driver take a normal pace and take in the sights from the car window. Cross through the Algonquin Bridge as it towers over you, and head through the bustling Star Junction. It really lets you appreciate the work they put into Liberty City.

Except when you're forced to play with Low settings on PC because the PC performs like crap. But still, your points are very true indeed. But I'd rather walk like a normal NPC to really get immersed by the city.

On release, I wasn't so happy with a lot of changes after the transition to HD. And, never played since then.

When Rockstar announced GTA V, a lot of things were clearly indicating of the return of many things that were dropped. Everything they shared seemed brilliant, until the game arrived and it soon became apparent within a month, the game proved a massive disappointment.

Just few months back, I ordered a brand new GTA IV - Episodes From Liberty City for PC and completed all three, gaming whenever time permitted and stopped playing GTA V completely.

I must say, overall I was very satisfied and had a great time playing the game that I ignored for years.

GTA IV was definitely worth playing and feels much better than GTA V,, because the game doesn't fail to offer the best GTA experience to the fans of the series.

92 : Unlockable part of the city. They really shoulda kept this feature.

Until IV, GTA was the only gta-like game purposely restricting the player from visiting the whole map at the beginning, and it was an awesome idea.

I remember in VC : unlock the second part of the map was just like if I had bought a second brand new GTA !

It was very fun to watch the locked part of the map, in the distance, imagining what it could look like ...

Dan Houser said in an interview that this feature was useless, "in GTA V players will restrict themselves and will go in the desert only a the end of the game". Pure lie.

Reading that seems to make the desert bigger I'm mind. Not the small sh*t we got now.

Hi there! First post!

You know, I have GTA IV always installed in my pc since it was released. Tried to finish it first on Ps3, but ended up selling the system and game so I had to finish it on Pc. Man I love this game, and I was really disappointed with what GTA V ended up being (own it and finished it on Xbox 360)

I've read until page 7, and while I agree with everyone that GTA IV has better characters (BY FAR! Love Roman, Little Jacob, Badman, Dwayne, FREAKIN BRUCIE!!!... you get the point) hasn't anyone mentioned a better (BY A MILE) villain?

Characters in GTA V are bland and unlikable, and I don't feel there is a certain villain until far in the game, where a Steve Jobs wannabe is shoehorned in. Doesn't anyone agree on this one?

As for Dimitri... Geeze I hatted that man's guts since the betrayal. Then he gets Roman captured, and taunts Niko about it. I could feel Niko's Rage, I wanted to go to that warehouse and splatter the brains of those responsible all over the freakin walls.

As a character, Niko is the best. I feel very attached to GTA IV, and I think Niko is a big part of why (YEAH, I don't love him that way you perverts!)

I get what you mean about the unlikeable characters in V, 4 still has the best side characters.

I also felt Nikos anger during the same mission. I wanted to burn dimitri alive with some Molotovs, glad I did in the final mission.

absolutely agree with you dude. IV's villains were much more memorable than V's, such as Dimitri, Playboy (optional) and Billy Grey. I can't believe no one listed that reason yet

btw, this is your first post? well, welcome to the forums :)

My first playthrough yes, very sad to see roman die, a lot of people hate him but I liked him. My second play through I chose revenge to kill pegorino for killing Kate.

The rags to riches feeling GTA IV had.. The character development, the deep depressing story IV had.. And Niko Bellic in particular was one of the most memorable characters in the franchise.

R* took beauty over experience in V. Its like "Oooh! Thats pretty! Okay...." But in GTA4 everything is so alive and interactive. Interiors, food stands, peds, dialogue, easter eggs, and fun. I love trevor and michaels story but was Franklin really needed? Hes just a dude that only cares about money

GTA 4s LC is alive and awesome. Franklin just became a shadow of Michael and Trevor after T comes to LS.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this yet, I don't think.

IV > V

Soviet Connection by Michael Hunter.

Every time I hear it, it sounds like a story ready to be read by the individual gamer that is about to embark on an ever changing story, with plot twists, betrayal, friendship, relationship, grittiness, adventure, loss, happiness, sadness, rage, rampage, puzzle, unknown of what to expect in a redesigned LC the first time of playing a GTA game back in 2008 after 6 years of 3D GTA gaming (2001 - 2007), and fun.
