Things GTA IV did better than GTA V

I've been trying to play without stealing cars lol. But my sports car off Brucie's friend I needed for racing, got ghosted from my parking spot, so I could only get a new one from the Grotti shop by taking one.

Me too, so I always use a Taxi, but sometimes i use Simple Native Trainer to make myself a personal vehicle.

Steeling cars as Niko in darkness feels so GTA. I like that.

Yes, it's great when you steal a car at night and in some secluded place, like some abandoned alley.

every single detail in GTA IV was f*cked up in GTA V

so GTA V is just 10,000 f*cking miles away from being anywhere near GTA IV

I agree. IV is just a better game imo

I have no idea why R* reversed the taxi controls in GTA V. They made sense in IV. Press the button you always do to steal the car. Hold it to do something exclusive to the cab which is getting in as a passenger. But in V it's the opposite. It makes me mix up the two quite often.

In V's defense, I have stolen more taxis than I wanted in IV because holding a button didn't always register or it was during a mission where you can't use the taxi so even if the holding was registered, it would divert it to stealing the taxi instead.

In case of V, there is less chance of stealing a taxi unintentionally.

The first few seconds explains.:p

I have to admit catching taxis can be problematic in GTA IV when you jack a taxi instead of getting in one as a passenger so I guess R* took note of the criticism and reversed the layout for GTA V where it's far less likely to happen. Still taxis are better in GTA IV because there's no Mohammed in GTA V and the taxi drivers in GTA IV are crazy mourherf*ckers more than the generic, can't even remember who they and and are less memorable than the taxi drivers in GTA III taxi drivers of GTA V.;)

@TheSantader25that's another minor and big reason why GTA IV is much better than GTA V

The Strangers (random characters) were better in IV. I honestly don’t have a nostalgic memory remembering any of the strangers in V actually. I know everyone will like that creepy mother f*cker Eddie Low but my favorite encounters in IV were with Brian Meech. My encounter with Brian was just like this on a beautiful sunny morning in Broker.

Gotta love the “You’re a dick” line by Niko here. :D

Man, I'm just doing Stranger and Freaks in Grand Theft Auto V and I hate like... 80%. I really liked Random Characters in Grand Theft Auto IV - missions weren't stupid, but simple and interesting.

They showed us that Liberty City is full of people with various problems.

Grand Theft Auto V on the other hand... I'm sorry, but only missions for Tonya made any sense, even though these were boring as hell. Oh, and maybe that one for Cletus when we haunt some deer.

NPCs purchasing sodas and other stuff at vendors across the city.

4437-gta-iv-screenshot.jpg

I’m always wondering why NPCs in V never purchased beer or a pack of smokes for example at the gas stations that are accessible. Even maybe letting them purchase liquor at the liquor stores. It would have added to the immersion a bit more.

The game just captured City life so well

When you interact with random characters it reminded me of series like Law & Order in a way. It captured the New York vibe perfectly. I only wish Alderney was a bit bigger and they had a mock version of Giants stadium and some more places based on Sopranos territory in NJ

with GTA V I don't think they managed to capture the Los Angeles, Hollywood or South California vibe that well. It seems very generic especially the eastern parts of Los Santos and areas by the desert lakeside. That map needed to be bigger and the game needed more towns based on San Fernando Valley, Orange country, Santa Clarita and Santa Barbara. GTA V felt very incomplete at times.

Yeah, Los Santos in Grand Theft Auto V is very... underwhelming when compared to Liberty City.

LS in V is really dinky and compact, it almost feels silly how small it is. Liberty felt like a real huge sweeping city.

I like how chain explosions work better as well. In V if a car explodes all neighbouring cars just explode instantly. But in IV although sometimes a neighbouring car might explode instantly more often it'll set on fire first so you get an unpredictable and chaotic chain of events with cars burning, fire spreading, people running away or falling out of cars on fire, and cars exploding one by one.

That's actually one of the few changes next gen made. Last gen was literally a domino effect.

"YOU FU*KING C*CK SUCKER" x100000000000 all over the goddamn freeways of V. It's like nobody else is on the f*cking freeways besides this idiot and his hundreds of similar brothers that all drive the same f*cking truck over and over and every single one them wears yellow gloves, lmaoo....Com'on R* so much for varietie.

V's NPC dialogue could have been so much better in many ways but no. Being honest it's terrible because they recycled every single damn quote that's always the same things. It's drastically noticeable when NPC's are in panic mode while in traffic. Apart of the games is that the majority of the pedestrians are hilarious with their unique dialogues in each gta in the series that aren't repeating as often with the exception of III. There was way to many recycled sayings for pedestrians and that detail flew right out the window. V peds are pretty much III's pedestrians but in HD cause they always blabber out the same things, lol.

The weirdest part is that there is literally over 30 minutes worth of female cop dialogue.

k I posted in here before but I can't remember what I said so I might be repeating myself but...

Cop chases and fighting cops was so much more fun in this game than in V. Cops weren't Terminators with RoboCop aim in this game. And they actually tried to pit maneuver you instead of V's cheap rear end you and make you fall off the road bs. The AI seemed better.

Also we need fat cops to return.

Funny Grand Theft Auto III: "My mother's my sister!" / "Yep, I've been drinking again."

Boring Grand Theft Auto V: "You're going to church with me!" / "You are a dick without a dick!".

Little details. I guess Rockstar dumbed down the details.. in order to lessen the burden for the hardware. I understand that game originally was released for PS3, but it's still a step in the backwards direction. Couldn't just they update these little things for the enhanced release instead of the dumb extra collectible items that nobody cares about? Take a look:

GTA IV looks far more immersive and "realistic" imo. It's these little things that makes a good game a great one.

Also lack of interiors for the same reason.

EDIT: Does anyone know a mod to restore these things for GTA V?

In Grand Theft Auto V everything happens so fast you can't even notice most of these... I mean, on PC (keyboard) every car is as fast as any other sports car... come on.

One thing I liked about IV were the random pedestrian conversations and how they made their own little stories, like one psycho Latin thug who can be heard saying "that pendejo soon stopped laughing when I pulled out the chainsaw!". Good times. Never heard anything like that in V, alot of the peds felt pretty blank for the most part.

I like a lot of it but I will defend V in that it does have friend hangouts (they seem to think they're not in it at all) which are well written and enrich the story/characters, I wouldn't say that anything to do with water/swimming is better in IV, and GTA's difficultly being decreased really started at the beginning of the HD era with IV - both IV and V are significantly easier than earlier games, although I'd argue it's more due to an increased focus on storytelling, cinematics and less arcadey missions than pandering to "casual gamers". Also, "Patty" lol. Nice to see so many of IV's good features highlighted though, always good when the gameplay is given recognition as well as the story/writing.

Yeah, Grand Theft Auto V dialogues during hangouts are much better than dialogues during missions... Interesting, because most people won't ever hear them.
