Things GTA IV did better than GTA V

why the vids were removed. there were funny and not offending

They were quite off-topic, so I'd imagine that's why. Edited by thehambone

I preferred how IV packed a smaller map with lots of details, and finding those little things-say, an alley that could be an on foot escape route, or a new shortcut for longer driving sections-was enjoyable enough on its own. I enjoyed walking or driving around and taking in everything that the different parts of LC had to offer.

That's a good point, on-foot escapes. Just a couple of days ago I ended up with a 3-star WL and my car got wrecked. Somehow I ran into a narrow alleyway with no cops nearby, and I just used these to avoid the incoming cops and escape from the circle.

That whole scenario is pretty much impossible in V. There are almost no alleyways where cars won't fit and cops always know exactly where you are and spawn everywhere so there's no avoiding them on foot.

Yeah, I'm really not a fan of the whole cops auto-spawn thing in V. It makes more sense if you're wreaking mass havoc, but I've lost count of the number of times I've shot one person in a remote location or sniped someone from a distance, and immediately gotten 2 stars and cops buzzing around me. They should have no idea I'm here. And then when you try to drive away from them, it's impossible, as at least one cop will appear in the space directly ahead of you and another one will come in from the side.

(Vanilla only) The lack of mission checkpoints. IMO, checkpoints are a stupid addition to the game and take away the challenge.

That depends. In Outlook, if you're not careful, you can run into an alley which is the back-lot of a police station. Then "you are in sh*t now, baby!"

In GTAV I once saw a cop car spawn out of a mountain and from a dead end road.

The Fact This Topic Exists!j

There's no such Topic in the GTA V Section.

And for good reason. GTA V has about as much freedom to approach missions in different ways than being locked in a jail cell.;)

(Vanilla only) The lack of mission checkpoints. IMO, checkpoints are a stupid addition to the game and take away the challenge.

To be fair checkpoints are handy in long missions so if you fail them it's less of a pain in the ass then going all way back to the start. A lot of games use them so I don't think they're that bad when executed correctly.

However in saying that what I do think takes away from the challenge and makes GTA V feel more "casual friendly" is being able to skip parts of missions if you fail x amount of times. I think it's three, but then again it's been a long time since I played GTA V for a considerable amount of time.

I can't recall any recent open world game I've played or any game for that matter that is so hand holding in that regard. What's next? In GTA VI being able to skip entire missions before playing them if we think they're going to be too hard?

Rather than Driving to your next Mission Objective in the next Game, you'd just be able to Trip Skip, even if it was just in the next Suburb.

Whingers be like "Driving is just too hard now!"

Sticking with me. I will never forget the story IV told or the setting it took place in. V is a beautiful game but lacks a soul. It doesn't feel tenured, Los Santos feels like it existed only during the story, as a movie set. Liberty City doesn't revolve around Niko, the sense of irrelevancy you get when you go through the story. Niko experiences the world around him, not some back story that's come up to haunt him, he is going across the city meeting all kinds of people, it's not just Niko and Roman, or Niko and Jacob, or Niko and Packie. V sticks you with these key guys and never deviates from that to show you a different perspective, it makes the game world feel shallow.

radios adverts are epic. babies overnight dot com, chip brain, electrolyte.. i can't remember i ever heard such funny things in V. vehicles persistency is way better than V too. in IV if you let your car in hove beach and go to docks and back on foot, you'll see your car where you left it

IV has more memes, such as "Let's go bowling" and the swingset glitch. V has... Trevor quotes.

The variety of interiors, I noticed the lack of interiors in GTA V. While IV had random enterable apartments, hospitals, laundromats, clubs like Pestroika, restaurants, etc.

Sound has declined in some areas too. The sound of the pistol being fired in close quarters has a distinctive pop it doesn't have when fired outside in the open. I'd say close quarters combat in general was more satisfying in IV. Mowing somebody down with a full SMG clip when they rush you, seeing their bodies react to each shot. I find that strange because V is supposed to be this blockbuster action movie but the way enemies react to being shot is underwhelming.

I've said this twice, and I'll say it again: Killing someone in IV, unarmed or armed, feels much more satisfying. In IV, it feels like you're wielding an actual gun. In V, it feels like you're operating a nailgun or a toy gun.

interiors are ressource hogs. that's why in V R* chose the teleport thing to enter an interior, as they obviously wanted to avoid lags and texture popins issues. yeah honestly i prefer few lags and restaurants and discotheques, than V actual desert

Cars saving, without the 30 grand garage in V it can't be done and the safe house garages don't save sh*t. In IV I've found cars outside my Safehouses I had totally forgotten about.

GTA IV requires more skill and time. In GTA IV there was no such thing as:

Mission checkpoints

Skipping a part of a mission

Flipping your car back on its wheels if it's upside down

Special abilities that slow down shootouts, driving, and being able to take a lot of damage

Only having to do half of things for 100% such as stunt jumps

Health regeneration

Quick save

^Friends had special abilities in IV.

I'm talking about the special abilities from Michael, Franklin, and Trevor.

There was also no such thing as parachutes in Liberty City... until TBoGT saw the light of day. :santa:

I'll take weapon discounts, free taxi rides, 2 gangsters that provide backup, car bombs, and helicopter rides over slowing down time whilst shooting, improved driving handling, and becoming invincible any day.

The abilities in GTA IV are realistic too. You have to call and ask the friend if they can help out, while in GTA V, press a few buttons and you're done.
