Things GTA IV did better than GTA V

Lol.in V pedestrians will call cops just for standing near them (especially when playing as Trevor, and I didn't even do nothing, just stood next to a hot chick and she said she'll call the cops, she did, they came and it was on).

In GTAIV guns go BOOM! while in GTAV guns sound like, sound like uhh... toy guns. I especially like the sawed off shotgun in TLAD - it was the only thing I used, hell, I felt like Wild Bill Hicokck with this this thing.

Don't forget the rapid fire pistol. That thing is awesome.

Misunderstood

The sawn off shotgun in V is an absolute joke lol. The one in TLAD felt powerful and loud. The V one just makes me laugh.

Yeah really. Sawed off shotgun in V wasn't any different from a pump action shotgun. Maybe it's just me but gunplay and car chases feel more enjoyable in GTAIV, like in an old school action movie.

I loved car chases in GTAIV they were so hard to do that's what made them fun.

The distinct and differing 'Eras' of the Map I felt were better done.

car physics, and i bet it has been done to death on here but i still love the way the cars handle in IV, a bit heavy, but realistic.

the physics in V seem to be akin to mario kart/need for speed, the cars hardly damage and if you drive into a hedge, it will have the same physics as driving into a wall.

the subway feels alive, but then again I love the subway in V too, it's just a little gritter in IV, loved he buskers and attention to detail.

The sawed off in V is just a pump shottie with a shorter barrel.

The sawed off in SA and TLAD is an Old School Double Barrel beast!

Another thing GTA IV did better than GTA V: not separating the community between online and singleplayer with online-exclusive crap like that.

As much as people are going to hate me for saying this, I have to point it out. GTA V had it's good things and bad things, but so did GTA IV. GTA V had more store robbing details, but the cars blew up easier when you were inside them than in GTA IV.

Nobody will hate you for this. It´s your opinion, that´s cool. And most of the people here will agree that IV had its good things and bad things too.

My major disappointment with V was the storyline. After IV and TLaD I expected more. And the beginning was really good, but after "Friends Reunited" everything went to sh*t. IV´s storyline was long and maybe some things were repetetive, but it kept me entertained and the whole storyline I wanted to know what comes next.

Besides IV and EFLC I´m playing some Watch Dogs at the moment and I have to say, i like the storyline better than V´s after "Friends Reunited". I first played Watch Dogs to get over the last few weeks till V for PS4 and Xbone came out, when the hype was real. At this time I didn´t like the game too much; maybe because I couldn´t wait for the next gen V to come out (I was so dumb thinking that they´ll improve the game, add more missions and stuff like that). But now it slowly grows on me and I have to say, it has a pretty decent storyline, which doesn´t seem to suffer from too much focus on multiplayer.

Off topic quickly: When GTA VI comes out, will we switch over to GTA V fans if GTA VI is worse that GTA V, or will we stay GTA IV fans?

On topic: I don't know if this was said already (not going through 137 pages) but GTA IV had more enterable buildings.

100. Little Jacob.

101. Girlfriends.

102. Being able to mix almost every cloth like you want.

103. Water saves you after falling.

The last part isn't actually realistic. If you were 10 miles over water, and jumped out of a helicopter, the force of hitting the water would be worse than hitting concrete from the same height, because the water wouldn't move away fast enough.

104. You have to brake before cornering

You don't have to, unless you want to keep your car.

Not really a big of a deal but you weren't "forced" to climb things like in GTA V. In GTA IV, you could "cancel" climbing over a fence or ledge by pressing a button when you were hanging onto it. You could also shimmy in some areas that allowed it. In GTA V, if you climb over a fence your character would do it and NOT GIVE YOU THE OPTION TO STOP CLIMBING (THEY JUST KEEP CLIMBING OVER IT) and it would become annoying when you were on foot getting shot at and wanted to drop down and deal with the enemy shooting at you. So many times getting shot in the back as the character takes their sweet time climbing. In GTA IV, once you "grab" onto a fence or ledge you could "drop" down on your own freedom of doing so and deal with an enemy quickly without taking so much damage.

Basically the climbing system between IV and V...

IV: Grabs a fence/ledge > Can choose whether or not to climb over it (If you do want to just press the button to climb over) (If you don't want to but you've already started climbing over just press a button to cancel/drop from the climb).

V: Grabs onto a fence/ledge > Climbs over automatically giving you no other choice but to climb over it.

The same thing can be said about ladders.

In V it's automated God knows what for, so the game suddenly may decide to put you on the ladder if you were just walking by it, or even worse, get cover next to one.

In IV I could decided if I want to get on the ladder or not, and this is the way I would like it to be. I play the games to be in control and I can walk on the ladder, when and if I want to, not when the game decides to do so.

Totally forgot about that! I remember playing GTA V on a three star wanted level and just so happened to run down an alley which happened to have two ladders attached to a building. I was right next to it (not too close) and it suddenly puts my character on one of them which caused me to get shot. Luckily, I never got wasted. I believe this gameplay mechanic was taken from Red Dead Redemption as well. Edited by Cops n Crooks

On the subject of climbing, I hate how the player will drop down to the level below them if they're standing near a ledge in V. I don't like how that game forces you to do certain things like that.

The Multiplayer. That is all.

FTFY. :^:

'Online' is V's Parasite.

In IV, Multiplayer lives in a Symbiotic manner with its' Host.

Uncle Vlad

I like the beginning (from the intro till the first time you can free-roam) in IV better than in V. I´ts more chilled. In V it seemed too much "in the face".

V:

dang dangdang dang Ludendorff, North Yanktion, nine years ago

robbery

shootout

another shootout

high speed car chase through the city

police chase

now you are more in "action mode" then curious about the new city when you can finally start to free-roam

IV:

chilled drive to Roman´s apartment and listening to their conversation, you see a little bit of the city, this makes you hungry for more

cutscene where you can learn a bit about Niko´s background and have some good laughs ("Roman! Are you sleeping, you fat f*ck?! Come on")

short tutorial about the safehouse, the parking space and street vendors

now you can start to explore Hove Beach

GTA IV first gta to turn cars off.

GTA V first gta where you can't leave car running.

I'm the only who started appreciating IV more after playing V?

Don't get me wrong, i always liked IV, i never hated the bleak atmosphere, story pace or lack of superfluous details of SA, but i can tell that i had more gripes with this game in the past, namely the car damage, lack of OTT moments in the story and variety of vehicles.

After playing V, some of the negatives were turned into positives, at least for me.

Nice to switch the vehicle engine off but feels like a pointless gimmick to me because you don't run out of fuel nor feels normal to switch the engine off since in most cases you would want the engine running to escape quickly from cops or when pursuing a chase.

So while it might be better to have an option but I don't see the point of having the option in either to complain about removal of the same in V.

Just a side note: IV seems to have lifted another idea from Mafia 1, where it was possible to turn engine off, and while it was still not useful in Story mode, but added a nice touch of realism ( not just as a gimmick ) in Free Ride mode when playing with my favorite collection of vehicles and if I'm not careful with the consumption of fuel the vehicles could soon run out of fuel when driving for longer duration. I'll have to pay 500 dollars to refuel at any gas tank station, because of which I used to turn engine off often, and avoid driving on roads going up the hill that always consumes more fuel.

Even the cars on roads have random fuel levels when trying to carjack. There's a chance the car might be running out of fuel and need to slow down in order to conserve the fuel if you are in the middle of police chase, or during shootouts where every bullet from gangsters/cops randomly hitting the gas tanks ( and chances are high in Free Ride mode ) will make the fuel going down really soon.

As such, leaving the engine off really made that much more sense ( best suitable in Free Ride mode ) in Mafia 1 than IV/V, to keep your favorite car ready without running low on fuel during tough times as explained above, otherwise you may risk losing the car.

There's one thing I hated so much about car chases in IV, and that's when I thought I got away from the person, I press the rear view button and I see the jerk spawn right behind me. I slightly remember this happening in that mission where we drive one of the McCreary brothers to their grave. It beats endless cars spawning hundreds of meters ahead of us like in GTA Online, but still annoying nonetheless.

Well I like being able to pull up in front of my safehouse and being able to switch off the car if I want to. I mean you say in most cases you'd want to leave the car running for a quick getaway, but that's where GTA IV having both options is better than it is in GTA V.

Even if you want to make a quick getaway in GTA V you can't because the cars automatically turn themselves off so then you have to start them back up. In GTA IV you just simply leave the car running.

I usually switch cars off when I want to park them because it was retarded that they would always idle over in the 3D era. I think it's pointless only having one or the other when there's more logic having both options.

Eh! Its been a long time since I played GTA V without mods. I thought we can leave the engine running in V. Just checked online and really surprised to know that the cars turn off automatically in V. I guess I had forgotten everything about the vanilla V after playing the modded game a lot.

E:

I think its definitely a bug just like animals reporting crimes, that Rockstar unknowingly left in the game and forgot to patch. I don't see why would they want to remove the option seen in IV from V.
