Things GTA IV did better than GTA V

For me muscle cars in GTA V don't feel like muscle cars as they feel like they have the stopping power on an F1 car and state of the art traction control systems.

It bugs me that the engine sounds on V's cars are so quiet. The muscle cars should be loud as hell!

The lack of engine sound variation and horn variation on cars in V is also disappointing. But to be fair, IV doesn't have too many car sounds either. It certainly has more horns though.

I realize these are frivolous things to complain about, but whatever :p

OT : think the car sounds in V are great but for some reason they're too quiet. Dominator sounds like an angry V8.

I have just watched the GTA IV vs GTA V video that was posted in this thread, it was all true. He even compared the tire smoke which is not a lot of people have been complaining about normally in comparing IV and V.

Well said, in fact all cars in V seem to have state of the art braking system(carbon fibre) that is so unrealistic and a major turn off

Meh, never found IV or V's driving to be amazing though I do like IV's a bit better. I think the best driving would be if R* combined V and IV (and sprinkled a bit of San Andreas in there).

San Andreas vehicle bodyroll, suspension and lack of any form of driving assists + IV overall driving + Realistic Driving Top Speed = Perfection

Not a single trace of V :p

Why do people keep saying that the driving is realistic? The suspension on the cars are utter garbage. Waaaaay too soft. No cars behave that way when taking a corner at slow speeds. V handles that aspect much better

Because is the most realistic driving in all GTA games... And V isn't better in any way about driving physics. From Adder to Fire truck all behave the same, no weight in cars, no suspension.

I remember one of the first times y played it. I tried to push a car with a truck and the truck couldn't move... Is that realistic?

Yeah. I find it hilarious how a truck can't move a small car more than a metre or two even at speed. In GTA IV smashing a truck into oncoming traffic is like using a giant battering ram.

I remember having such a great time playing a demolition derby in LC's traffic with even a Patriot. Then TBoGT introduced the APC and I reached a nirvana.

In V, you can take a massive big rig on the highway and it feels like crashing into blocks of concrete.

I think it's because of the lack of weight or the feel of it anyway. Even the trucks feel too light. In GTA IV they feel as heavy as a real truck does.

I love GTA IV´s story.It´s over 9000 times better than V´s :)

Well appearantly IV's story is too long, complicated and confusing to most V lovers and also driving is too realistic and demanding for them. That's why they hate GTA IV and call it the worst game in the series. Weather in reality its the best :) IMO anyways.

GTA IV's story doesn't have enough overused sex jokes and doesn't make wise cracks in just about every cutscene. Oh well despite that it's still considered widely to be the best story in the series.

You know it's saying something even when GTA IV haters can't deny it. GTA IV's story = masterpiece.

Yeah, the big rigs in IV are a blast. It´s so much fun to go on a full star rampage with a Phantom and cause havoc all over LC and Alderney. And this beast can take some serious damage.

In V the heavy vehicles feel like they have almost no weight. Even the tank sucks.

Problem though is GTAV wisecracks are quite poorly scripted. Trevor's dialogue is better in GTAO than GTAV. And the worst part of the storyline of GTAV for me - the graveyard mission, so contrived and poorly executed, doesn't make any sense for Trevor to return after this point.

There's one thing that IV (and previous GTA games) can be set apart by from V - that is more creative cops and other enemies. Only sentences that enemies in GTAV yell at during a fight is "asshole! ass! motherf*cker" - I personally find this annoying. Enemies in GTAIV say more creative things. Although there are exceptions in GTAV like Vagos and Ballas and the security guy who yells "what's my name bitch?!"

not only cops, but cab drivers too. in gta v they are all the same and say the exact same stupid thing but in gta 4 the cab drivers were all different and had hilarious personalities from the greek one to the asian one. it really made taking the taxi fun.

Yeah sh*t. in GTAV it is always the same dude "where you wanna go homie?" No matter whether you take cab in Rockford Hills or Strawberry. iN gTA IV cab drivers all different. Sometimes you can even get a cab where a driver is an ordinary pedestrian. My favorite cab drivers are the Chinese and Russians.

At first playthrough V story didn't make any sense to me. Although writers were same, V story and characters felt cheap compared to GTAIV. But having thought about it, I have realized that V story does make sense but still it doesn't hold up to GTAIV. When considering a principle of dramatic writing: beginning reflects ending, antagonist is a reflection of protagonist - then story of GTA V makes sense. It begins with a big heist and death, ends with a big heist and death. Trevor is sort of a reflection of Michael. However, GTAIV story and it's characters were better developed and thus remain in the memory of gamers for a lifetime. Critics labeled GTA IV as one of the best games ever for a reason. Hell, even the most minor characters and pedestrians were fleshed out and real in Grand Theft Auto IV-

IV's really boring and it doesn't have half the finesse of the infinitely superior GTA V. From the cover mechanics to the car physics, V beats IV hands down.

It's like a cave painting compared to V, graphically. V doesn't have the endlessly grey streets, it has a beautiful vibrant map filled with detail and makes IV look like a concentration camp.

Helicopters. Nuff said. IV has the most fun to fly helicopters in the entire series. The mayhem you can cause with the heliblades is extremely fun. You can lose your tail and still fly (although very difficult) and land without blowing the f*ck up :p

The helicopters are good.

I might be mis-remembering this, but I'm sure in one of the III era games, possibly VC, it was possible to use the two thumbsticks on a controller to control a helicopter, as well as shoulder buttons. It's a shame this mechanic hasn't been used throughout all GTA games, it felt so much more natural... unless, of course, I made this up and am some sort of genius.

For me it wasn't about sense. I understood GTA V's story fine, but it was just executed poorly IMO. I remember on my first playthrough getting to the end and asking myself who Stretch and Wei Cheng were even though they were supposed to be supporting antagonists because I forgot about them halfway through.

Hands down the worst post of the month. Just admit you can't handle GTA IV car physics cos they are too real for you. As you would rather have GTA V's weightless cars that have no suspension and all of them are equipped with F1 brakes and not to mention they all handle the same way no matter what you are driving, tank, muscle car, sports car, suv - they all feel the same.

Can't handle them? No, that's not the case at all. I got to grips with them immediately because that's what gamers do. I could handle them perfectly well. That doesnt mean I have to like them. Disliking something does not mean that someone is incapable of using it - far from it.

That's really quite an immature statement, but thanks for playing.

V reminds me of the Facebook and Twitter age AND I CAN'T STAND Facebook or Twitter ,you know where people go to tell their life stories to other self evolved techno boobs like anyone really cares. IV on the other hand is before the self entitlement age.

After completing GTA V, I literally had to google Stretch to find out who the f*ck he was.

Anyways, I own GTA IV on PC (and PS3/360 for that matter) and I have never put a single mod on it. I've owned GTA SA on PC for the longest time and the only mods I have are mods that make the game prettier. GTA V is the only GTA game I've ever modded the living sh*t out of. I'm talking everything. Gun sounds, adding more recoil and spread to weapons, fixing the sh*tty cops, realistic driving, etc. It's all there, the only GTA game I ever felt the need to truly mod (to get rid of the disappointing features).
