Things GTA IV did better than GTA V

Recently I've watched that video "GTA IV is better than GTA V" for the very first time... Man. I want to play IV again. Those little details of IV are more important to me than better animation and overall graphics of V.

There's no sh*tty Generic and Fugly POLICE Liveries on any of the PPV's!

This.

The grand question is why the f*ck cockstar decided to kill off all the unused vehicles in pursuits, like the CEPI, Buffalo (and why fix the Buffalo when it's pretty much never used?) and the unmarked versions off the two.

And then the fact that NOOSE uses "SA EXEMPT" plates when it's a Federal Agency and should use the corresponding License Plates. Thats one thing that also bugs me in vanilla IV.

There were so many things that were rushed as well as things that were overdone. That one is one of the best examples of the latter.

And when I recall that "You're a hipster" dialog, which is getting a lot of attention somehow, I cringe, because there was a lot of overacting :/

Yeah, that always catches me too. Luke and Ogg are so, so hamming it up there. There is an interesting contrast, because, as annoying their endless loud shouting matches were, I would say that for the most part, their performance in cutscenes was rather civil and believable. If there is a one thing that doesn't exactly sit all that well with me there, is that Houser's writing can at times get a bit flowery and lost in forced satirical sarcasm (I can't imagine a person like Trevor, in real life, having speeches like the "torture advocate" one, for the most egregious example), but that isn't the actor's problem.

Anyway, I digress. The point I was getting to, is that in voice-only dialogues, Luke and Ogg sometimes overact really bad. It feels like they just can't get the hang of voice acting properly. They are great actors when they are actually filming scenes, but when they just get a piece of paper and are told to just read out their lines, they are a bit out of their element.

I couldn't agree more.

Also, some dialogues were too tiresome to listen, because the same stuff was repeated literally over and over again. For example, some of the therapy sessions, where Michael kept vaguely saying how everything is "bad" and how he hadn't been a good boy, every single second. I mean, seriously:

- Hmm... Anything else you want to tell me?

- I ain't been a good boy, Doc. I mean, you know things just... all of a sudden get up on top and right f**king on top. Then I lose my sh*t and I hurt people, and then I feel bad about it. I'm a f**king prick.

- What about your sexual problems, Michael?

- I've been a good boy in that regard. I'm making real progress, Doc.

- Have you been acting out again, Michael?

- Ahh, you know..been a little up, a little down, Doc.

- So what about the problem areas?

- Okay well... look things are... I gotta tell you, Doc, they're awful.

- Any other violent outbursts, Michael?

- Yeah, I've had good days, Doc, but mostly they've been really bad days. I've been doing really bad things. Ya know? Hurting people.

- Doc, it's me.

- Michael, que pasa amigo?

- Not good. Things have been pretty f**ked up.

- You seem particularly confused, Mikey. Tell me why.

- Things are really bad, Doc. Really bad.

- Tell me all about it. Sharing is winning.

- I've been really bad, Doc, but I'm suffering. I've lost everything, everything that matters.

:dozing:

That's some great writing right there.

Holy sh*t that is some bad writing! Oh man, talk about the most shallow conversations ever.

TL;DR version: "I bad boy, Doc, I no be better. I have problems... "

Two massive reasons why GTA IV kicks GTA V in the balls:

The Lost and Damned

The Ballad of Gay Tony

Single Player DLC's - something that GTA V will never have

This. This a thousand times. GTA IV just had a way better legacy. We got to see three distinct personalities of Liberty City from the eyes of Niko, Johnny, and Luis. The immigrant's American dream, the grimy biker tale, the glitz and glamour of Liberty City's nightlife. Three fleshed out vibes that really lightened the scope of the game a lot.

Although GTA V's world is immensely detailed, it just doesn't have any character to it. Not in my opinion at least. The narrative just really surrounds itself in satire too much. Nearly every character you meet is a cynical prick.

It could be a subliminal message that the writing is bad seeing as "bad" is repeated over. :p

Anyway..

You know it's saying something when San Andreasians know Liberty City is better. ;)

1 million views on the comparison video. The video is spreading like wild fire. Good Job :)

And 20k likes compared to only 2k dislikes. Now that the dust has settled people are waking up to the truth :p

GTA IV is better than GTA V: 21.759 Likes, 2669 Dislikes

GTA V is better than GTA IV: 410 Likes, 156 Dislikes

IV vs V Likes to Dislikes Ratio:

IV: 8.15

V: 2.63

IV wins :p

It's been a week or so since the two videos were posted and the majority seem to agree GTA IV is a fundamentally better game when it comes to A.I, physics, damage modelling etc.

Says everything to me. GTA V is about the way it looks and subjective surface fluff that adds to the "fun factor". GTA IV is all about what actually matters in any game. Not just open world games. Its core gameplay.

The release of V certainly increased IV's appreciation. V shockingly slips up in so many areas despite having double the budget of IV. Poor Map layout, supercops, linear missions, can't crouch, can't pickup things, poor shooting, locked- up interiors, badly done NPCs and more....

Sadly half of that budged went into marketing, yes HALF.

That happens when they do things focused on making money and not on the player and they lose the passion they had once.

Agree with this, the interaction is better imo, how the news updates based on your exploits, the girlfriends are found on there, the missions that incorporate it, the emails between Niko and his mother (which returned in the episodes with Johnny and Luis' family members), it is a far more inspired use of the feature.

In V? It's all very minimalistic. Buying vehicles and the stock market has no personality to it, plus were the news articles removed? I can't remember them. No missions use it. Basically very uninspired to IV's inspired.

I like the ammo capacity in this game. It means you can't be careless and just waste a bunch of bullets. You have to shoot wisely. Although I think more than 8 rockets would be nice.

I also like the toll booths. Yet another thing that makes the world feel alive.

I like in emails you can choose between positive and negative responses. I usually slander Brucie's lol.

I don't wanna sound like i'm bashing V but...

- I'm disappointed on how there are no police patrolling in V as opposed in IV or the previous ones. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

- i like the story in IV more than IV.

- the physics in IV are fun for me while V aren't.

- the accuracy of the AI in IV were greatly balanced, in V it isn't (the super cops were annoying). The rubberband of the police cars is a joke too. How is that a Noose SUV with four guys inside and four guys outside hanging off the SUV can catch up to sports cars ? That's the biggest disappointment.

I might be the only one, but I actually preferred 1 protag over 3 and choosing between characters got really boring after awhile, especially when you are basically forced to switch the guy to progress in the story. I would rather have had a choice in the beginning to choose 1 guy to play the whole story(think about the possibilities in the story telling) and therefor getting to know that 1 person, rather than having 3 separate half-finished stories...

Also I actually enjoyed saving my game and coming back to it the next time and starting exactly from where I left off... Not by the side off the road with white nappies on(Trevor) although it was funny at first, it got really tiresome later on as I had to go back to the safehouse to change clothes. This annoyed the hell out of me. Sometimes less is more if you know what I mean

Your're not the only one. I feel the exact same way. The three separate protagonist angle was really lame. The story was not engaging at all. There was never any sense of progress. When the game was finished I didn't feel anything. I was just left sitting there staring at my screen like, "alright".

The outfit changing is really annoying as well. Coming back into a save game isn't the only time it crops up either. If you start a mission and the game decides to fast forward time because the mission has to take place at a certain time of day, your character will end up in different clothes. It's stupid as hell. Everything I do to try and project my own influence and form a connection with what is happening, GTA V circumvents it.
